Does Anyone Else Miss Dom?

I miss parts of him..okay that sounds weird...

I miss his style of play, always entertaining to watch. I miss holding my breathe every time he left the net in fear of him screwing something up :D. And I also miss him taking a dive every time the little bit of contact was made with him and another player.

For the most part I'm glad we have moved on from him though. It was time.

What I miss most is the competition that is created with the position. Ozzie is at his best when he has to compete for playing time. He was handed the #1 job. Nothing to compete or work hard for at this time. Ozzie has not been good so far. Yes, the defensive holes does not help either. But he has let in to many that should have been stopped. The Tampa game, 1st and 3rd goals should not have gone in. And its been that way almost every game. Its time to create a little competition with Conks and possibly find a way to get Jimmy Howard in a few games, see what he can do. Competition will breed excellence. Out of the 3 goalies, they can get one of them to play better than whats been there so far.

Anyone else miss Brendan Shannahan, Steve Yzerman, the Russian Five, Terry Sawchuck, Gordie Howe or any of the other of dozens of incredible athletes that played for the Wings?

I miss Vlady and Fischer. Could you imagine a top 5 of Lidstrom, Konstantinov, Kronwall, Fischer, and Stuart?

Yeah....one we probably couldn't afford in this cap era. :P

That is incredible to think of though. Talk about a feared Blueline on multiple levels.

I miss yzerman :( more ...

Agreed. #19 behind the Winged Wheel with the "C" over the chest is everything that's right with the Red Wings, Hockey and sports in general.

While no player is (or ever will be) bigger than the team....Yzerman was larger than life.

I was never the biggest Hasek fan even when he wasn't on the team, but at the same time, I certainly respect what he's done in his career. But I feel that he should've stayed retired the first time around and gone out on top. But hey, I also feel that we should've kept Kozlov and skipped the Dom-drama era altogether. Sans Manny a few years back, goaltending has never played a pivotal part in a series loss.

So truthfully, I don't miss him. I feel bad for him though. While the way he handled himself after getting pulled was certainly commendable, it's somewhat sad that we're so moved by him simply doing the "right thing" just because we're so used to him or because we're expecting him to do the wrong thing. Even if the reputation is somewhat unwarranted, he hasn't exactly done a good job of giving fans and critics much reason to believe otherwise. And I also think it's really sad that such a great goalie had to get pulled in the 1st round after such a miserable performance. I may not like him much, but out of respect, he deserved better than that. But it was his call to stay on so I'm not going to throw him a pity party. I'm just glad the drama's over.

can't really do that this year.

Ozzie .877 sv%, 3.31GAA

Conk .897 sv% 3.19GAA

Six of one, half dozen of the other.

They'll figure it out, or else the team will step up and play better to compensate.

"To compensate" my arse...

If the team was playing as well as they're capable of playing, neither goalie would be lugging those numbers around.

We need to combine these two players for these plays alone to make for that much more of an entertaining player. :P

In all seriousness, yeah I do miss Hasek primarily because he was exciting to watch and had a flair for the dramatic on the ice. Off the ice is another story at times and I don't like behind the scenes drama but that's for another discussion/time. It was finally time to part ways with him after winning it all, it was time before and after when he flooped up coming back in 2004 with the 3-ring goalie circus with Joseph and Legace, but I think he changed the hearts of many when he had a fairly good season overall the year before the Wings won the Cup again.

I didn't think I'd say this before the season, but I do miss him.

Ozzie hasn't done good as a full-time starter, especially since he knows Conklin is no threat to take his job. Last year Ozzie was the underdog, and that's a role he's always been better at filling than being a full-time starter.

Thus, I miss Hasek only because he provided some competitive edge to Osgood, which is no longer there.

I will always miss Hasek. For his style of play for the way he would compete, for how much fun he was to watch. Do I think he could still Dominate this year? I can't honestly answer that question. I don't think we'd be any worse of a position than we are now if we still had the Dom and Ozzie Tandem.

There's always next year! LOL

I'm probably in the minority, and I don't care.. I don't miss him at all. Just one of those players I disliked over the years. Not saying he wasn't one of the best back in the day, but I am glad he retired :)

Agreed 100%. I don't miss him at all and never liked him.

I can't say that I miss Dom. I miss the Dom of 2001-2002. He was amazing and so much fun to watch. After he left the team following that season i was really happy for him to be able to go out on top. Then he tried to come back and i lost respect for him. I'm glad that he came back to detroit and helped us last year. But i don't miss him.

I certainly miss his competitiveness, his ability to bounce back from bad goals and bad games, his mad dashes out of the net and natural wanderlust. He was good in '02 and stellar in '07 despite the loss. There was always a point in the game where you could stop and say, Yes, now Dom has shut the door, and it was lights out.
