Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted September 23, 2008 (edited) Just read in a couple posts on hfboards quoting an article that Turtle is going to attempt a comeback, is willing to play for cheap and work his way up through the AHL and so forth. Been conditioning for 10 weeks, or something like that. Just a moment and I'll edit in a link.. The promised edit: http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=554336 And here's the translated article if you don't want to go through there (compliments to sebster03 a la google translation?): "Here is a translation of the article. Goggle translation sucks Claude who is 43 years of age indicated that he will return to the game of hockey, more then 5 years after he had played in his last game in the NHL. Lemieux has training intensively for the past 10 weeks. He has skated with current players of the Phoenix Coyotes, but he hasn't agreed to any form of deal with any team of the NHL. "It's evident that the majority of people will think that I'm crazy..." says Lemieux. "I miss being with the players and I miss the sensation of being on the ice. We only have one life and if we feel something in our hearts or in our heads, we must try it out." And to show his determination on returning in the NHL, CLaude Lemieux says that he is ready to spend the time needed in the AHL. "It's not a question of money. I don't won't to negotiate for a contract worth several millions. It will be up to me to prove myself and maybe in the AHL level. The team who would give me a chance will not regret their decision" Lemieux adds. He, who won 4 times the Stanley Cup with the Canadien, Devils and the Avalanche is convinced that he can still help a NHL team. In his last season, in 2002-2003, Lemieux obtained 20 points in 68 games." Sorry LePew, you already got your ass beat by D-mac, don't come in second place again by trying to mirror his comeback. Flame away, LGW. Edited September 23, 2008 by The Wheeled Winger
Anomalously 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2008 That he's sort of pulling a McCarty (coming up through the minors, jumping in the NHL after time away, etc.) is just kind of ironic.
WingMachine91 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2008 those 2 are just tied together. like arch enemies their paths are similar. i think it would be funny if he was signed to the avs minor league team just like mac was with ours.
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted September 23, 2008 That he's sort of pulling a McCarty (coming up through the minors, jumping in the NHL after time away, etc.) is just kind of ironic. While Mac isn't nearly the talent Lemieux was, Darren never even missed an entire season in the NHL (minus the lockout) and is only 36. The Turtle is something like 43, isn't he, and has been out of the NHL since 2003. That's a loooong time, especially for a guy his age.

Was he active at all playing hockey in a competitive fashion after he hung them up in the NHL. As much as we didn't like him during the height of the Wings-Avs years, if he wants to try to come back, more power to him to try to do something (or do something again) that he loves. bellarina 1 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 If he goes into the turtle again, someone drop an elbow on his spine, that will finish the coward once and for all. I wanted to use many other words than coward but there may be little wings in the forum. He actually looked okay against McCarty the time that he wasn't jumped and Mac fought him straight-up. I didn't like his sometimes dirty play, but he was a great hockey player and I'd welsome him back to the NHL and I'd even like to see him on the Wings. LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 ...everyone STILL hate Lemieux? Jesus H. Christ, he's already apologized to Draper. By gones are by-gones. Although it would be sacreligious to have him on the Wings or even in GRR, I do believe it'll be a good story all is said and done if he makes a come-back to the NHL. Sorry LePew, you already got your ass beat by D-mac, don't come in second place again by trying to mirror his comeback. ...uh, mirror his comeback? McCarty LUCKED out that he "cameback" with a team destined to be a Champion. McCarty had NOTHING to do with winning the Cup. This team would've won with or without McCarty. He gave absolutely nothing to this team, it wsa nothing but Illitch trying to help out a former player and a great PR move... ...I say good for him to want to do someting he loves (as well as good for McCarty to want to come back.) But all this wishing him to break his neck and other ill feelings, that is simply childish. McCarty has cheapshotted PLENTY of players in his career, are we wishing ill-tidings on him? No, why? Because he's a Wing (was, he is now where his talent level belongs, in the minors.) I say here's to hoping McCarty NEVER where's a wings uniform again, and here's to BOTH of them playing the game they love at the level they deserve, the minors... The Secret 304 Report post Posted September 24, 2008 I honestly hope that's a joke! I would disown Kenny if he signed him! No doubt... It was a tough pill to swallow when Chelios became a Wing, i'll never forget that. Or the picture in the Windsor Star of Shanny giving a strange look at Chelios as they laced up their skates for the first time. I am veru happy now that we have Chelios! But getting Claudia?! That I could never get used too.... nor could I see Drapes being cool with it. Unless Draper was allowed to return the favour and start with a clean slate and let Claudia taste how his filth tastes! The emotional uplift he brought to the team was immeasurable. He brought an emotional uplift to his best friends in Malts, Drapes, and Ozzie. Would we have won the cup w/o him? Maybe. But he did have a goal and assist to help the team. I am absolutely disgusted by you, hoping that D-Mac never wears a Winged Wheel again. Do you also wish the same with Chelios? What about Lids in a couple years? I do agree that we need to let the whole Claude fued go, because he was an exceptional player and he probably does have something left in his tank. I agree with a lot of your post, but other than Turtle, who are some players McCarty has cheapshotted? I've never considered Mac to be someone along the line of Cheli, who has cheapshotted plenty of guys throughout his career, especially early on.

So according to you, just because McCarty WAS part of the core team of the 90's he deserves to be on this team as much as Lidstrom? Would I wish that Lidstrom never wear a Wings jersey again? No, I wish and hope that Lids plays beyond Chelios' years! This team WITHOUT McCarty STILL wins the Cup, without Lidstrom? or Even Chelios (until he hurt himself) I am not one to hand out rostor spots to people because of what they USED to be!!! And yeah, that means Chelios to, if he can't play anymore, he should retire. Although Downey DID get his name on the Cup, he earned and deserved McCarty's starting spot in the playoffs last year! ...using McCarty in the same comparison with Lids and Chelios is like comparing apples and spaghetti! The ONLY comparison between Lids and McCarty is that they were on they same team, and that's where it ends!
