So, are you happy with the turnout?

Even though there are still deals coming in at this point, I think it's safe to say the Wings didn't make any (considering Ken Holland confirmed it on the NHL network). This really shouldn't surprise anyone, as it was pretty much expected.

How do you all feel about it, though? Are you happy Holland didn't upset the team chemistry, or upset that he was unwilling to part with anything to possibly make the team better and fill certain needs? Or are you just upset no moves were made at all?

Myself, I'm upset in the sense I took a sick day to stay home and watch all this (lame, I know, but the last few years I worked through the deadline), and not a single move was made by the Wings, which made it pretty boring to be honest. I guess when it comes right down to it, though, nothing could have really been done, because of the situation.

So, how do you all feel about this year's deadline? Are you happy that Holland is sticking with what we've got, or would you have preferred significant moves be made?

Fine with me. Most I would've liked to see is a guy who could compete for a 5-6 spot on D. I don't think we need it. The team we have is more than capable of winning.

And what's all this crap about Calgary being the big winners? We already won the deadline sweepstakes July 2nd when we signed Hossa.

I'm content, because this team is a proven stanley cup winning team, and there's nhl caliber-talent waiting to fill in any gaps in Grand Rapids, should we need something. It is somewhat a bummer that today had to be such a boring day for the Wings though. Hearing about trades is always exciting.

I think it was smart. All of us here can come up with hypotheticals, but the truth is that we don't know what Holland was really thinking and we never will know.

Last year, people were calling for his head. Unbeknownst to us, Holland was trying to get Hossa, but wouldn't give up the depth that the Penguins did. Last year, at this time I felt a bit disappointed, but looking back on it...it was a smart thing to do (not bid the future).

I'm sure he was trying to get someone, but wouldn't give up the asking price. Everything is fine with me...I wish we picked up Neil, but I don't know the inside scoop.

I am very happy --

I was pissed last year when Holland saved millions in salary for the deadline -- he ended up getting Stuart and failed at getting Hossa or another forward (asking prices are just too high). I wanted to see him spend that money at the beginning of the season, and not lose all the draft picks and prospects at the deadline -- plus the players have a longer time to mesh.

He did exactly that! I certainly can not complain!

Signing Hossa last year made it pretty much impossible to make any moves at the deadline. Not enough cap space.

Also, I don't think anyone had the foresight to imagine that the goaltending and defense would be so lousy this season. It was taken for granted that the same roster as last year, plus Hossa, would equal a much better team. So far it hasn't been that way because we're giving up way too many goals.

Still, it'd be nice to have landed someone like Chris Neil, especially since people here seem to think that Holland is capable of any level of greatness.

Overall, the deadline is supposed to be about improving your team, and we didn't really improve ours. That either means our team doesn't need improvement, or the management wasn't sly enough to pull any deals off. You all can decide for yourselves which one it is.

BTW, Kp, you need to sacrifice some of your social life and post here more often. We need a poster of your calibur to offset some of the posters around here.

NO!

We should've added some friggin' GRIT, man. A fighter was there to be had. Also another defenseman should've been brought in, considering we still have Lilja. I mean, cmon, Filpulla could've been shipped out. Also, Ozzie is past his prime, and looks to be nowhere near capable of leading us into the playoffs again. Conklin? Awww God! He's unproven. Holland really really blew it today. Look at the other 29 teams in the league. All improved!!

*sarcasm*

Hell yeh, i'm happy!! This is the first year I can remember that no moves made = great moves indeed.

 @ Kenny Holland.

I'm fine. I went in expecting maybe a Chris Neil type player at the most.

Overall, the day was mellow league wide.

From a standpoint of excitement league wide, this was just a very disappointing deadline day. The media hyped it up, and it crashed hard.

I'm fine with our actual roster, guys like Neil, Lappy, Moen or Mayers would be nice to have around... but nevermind. I was hoping for McLaren he was traded for 6th round draft pick... would be nice to have him instead of Meech or Lebda... let's hope that Holland will sign Hossa and Franzen (or just Hossa) and everything is going to be OK.

Heh, thanks. I've been away a lot this season.

Very happy. We've got 2nd liners playing on the 3rd and even 4th line come playoff time as it is. If they don't have the motivation to get it done in the playoffs, no small acquisition is going to help. We made our big moves during the offseason.. moves that cost nothing. We have to save our late draft picks for Ericssons and Zetterbergs and what have you :D.

Barring a core altering impact player being brought in, no minor deal would have helped. I'm very glad Kenny didn't feel compelled to trade a 4th for a 7th and "upgrade" Jamie Rivers into a Cory Cross like he did in '06.

No other contender has a trio of guys like Ericsson, Helm, and Leino to drop on the roster on a whim. The other teams are already leaning on those types of guys.

I really wanted Chris Neil and I'm not sure why we didn't get him after Murray's comments on TSN, considering he won't be back with Ottawa unless he decides to take less money as they haven't been able to come to terms. Plus Ottawa isn't going to be in the playoffs?

"On TSN, Bryan Murray says there was no market for Chris Neil, who will be a U.F.A. in July."

Why couldn't we offer a 3rd or 4th rounder for him?

Apparently because, as Murray said, noone wanted him this year.. atleast, not for what Murray wanted for him. And I'm sure they had their reasons.
