The Central Division

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I just looked at the standings and noticed that as of right now (March 4th 5:14 PM EST) every team in the Central besides St. Louis is in a playoff spot, and seems to be in a position where they can keep it if they keep winning (in other words they don't have the "Anaheim Playoff Spot" where they've played five more games than everyone else, and are still barely clinging to a bottom spot).

So much for the Central being the weakest division in the league.

Yep, the Central has really become one of the stronger divisions in the league now.

Still, the argument that Detroit has had it easy because of a weak division was always a bad one. Their stats against the Central has often been worse than against the rest of the league.

Yea, the Central is tough this year.

Nashville gives us problems, CBJ looks good and that other team is young and improving.

Anyone have a link to show the Central divisions record against other teams?

The division has obviously gotten better and like a few of you have already stated, no one can make any argument about how we only win because of a poor division. On the other hand, the pacific has really gone downhill. With the exception of San Jose, that division has gotten incredibly worse since the season started. Phoenix and LA are two of the bottom 3 teams and Dallas and Anaheim are not in a playoff spot at the moment.

Yeah, I was just about to mention the Pacific. Not too long ago you could count on it being the big 3 and little 2 - Anaheim, San Jose, and Dallas could all be counted on to make the playoffs. Now the Pacific is Pathetic - though to be honest, it's too soon to count the chickens because everyone all the way from 5th to 15th could be in or out by season's end. The only teams I'd pencil into a playoff spot right now are the Wings, Sharks, Flames, and Hawks.

A handful of years getting nothing but high draft picks and they were bound to get better eventually.

Glad to see they are keeping the Wings on their heels.

I believe they would be keeping the Wings on their toes not their heels

Its good for the Wings, keeps em on their toes. TBH though, Columbus is the team I want Detroit to stay away from the most. They remind me too much of the 2004 Flames.

yeah, the atlantic is the only other division with four teams represented in the playoffs at this point.

i'd have to say right now the pacific is the worst division in the league, the sharks' record not included. it's always tough to make an argument against the south east as the league's worst; right now both have two of the bottom three teams in their conferences (though neither have the last place team), but at least the south east has two teams in the top eight right now, and another only two points out. stars and ducks are both within striking distance, and the ducks' GP is starting to even out (we have played as many games as them now).

anyway, yeah, i don't mind having a stronger division. i miss playing the 'hawks. seemed like we played them a ton early on, then had a big break from them. looking forward to closing out the year in a home-and-home with them.

yeah chicago should have a good team for the next 2 years then i want to see how their GM handles the pressure of a cap with thier top players not restricted by a rookie cap like they are now

Detroit is almost at the top of Western Conference and I think will be at the top at the end of the season.

For some reason I don't hear much from Sharks, Ducks and other team fans reasoning for detroit being good because they play in weak conference..

..oh wait, maybe it's because as things stand today we have 4 teams making playoffs from Central Division and only one from Pacific? :)
