What the Thrashers thought about Osgood tonight.

The following quotes were shamelessly stolen from TSN.

"Osgood made some great saves in the first period," Thrashers first-year coach John Anderson said. "Games change complexion when one team is down or us and if we had gotten up, it might have changed the way we played."

"We had some chances in the first on the power play that we didn't score on," said Kozlov, a former Red Wing. "They were very strong on the penalty kill. They dominated in both their zone and our zone tonight. Osgood was very strong for them tonight."

Feel free to praise Ozzy for keeping the Wings in the game in the first! He made some great saves and these last four games have been a pleasure to watch.

Ozzie is playing better lately, but some people seem to be taking it too far, i mean he gave up 3 goals to the 3rd worst team, its not like he was completely dominant.

Ever heard of Ilya Kovalchuk? Slava Kozlov? They may be at the bottom of the standings but they have some good offensive talent.

Osgood play great, there is no doubt. His best game of the year. Him letting that puck though for one of the goals where the atlanta player had an open net was kind of weak, but that's about it. My faith in osgood is nearly restored.

Oz made some really good saves early when it mattered and you could say he dominated in the 1st period.

The real diff recently is the wings, as a whole, have kicked it up a notch. Oz is now Oz - no better or worse than he's ever been now that the team in foront of him is playing hockey.

Did you watch the game at all last night?

See, this is what I was talking about before in the GDT about people never being satisfied.

I don't know I can say Ozzie was great because if goalies are great, they have to play good for three periods not only 2 periods. Look, I am not blaming Ozzie but Ozzie looks still shaky when he faces some hard slap shots. However, he was enough good to win but some people here look to consider Ozzie's late performance as perfect; that is not true.

More than that, it does not matter who the Wings played against. If Ozzie is getting his confidence back, I am going to be happy with that. However, it does not matter either whether the scorer is good like Kovalchuk and Kozlov or sucks. Because goalies should be responsibile for every goal. Ozzie made some great saves but like the 2nd goal and the 3rd goal, I cannot blame defenses while I blame hard Stuart on the first goal.

Ozzie's real test will be on Monday against the Flames while Conks' real test will be on Tuesday against the Oilers. Hopefully, both our goaltenders will come up big and provide a great performance.

I think it is unfair to post a general inquiry into the overall "awesomeness" of a player, and then have the masses turn on that individual when they openly share their opinion with us. This is a medium that should be shared amongst all of us to generate interesting conversation and not to belabor the point that our team is amazing. We get it. We would all rather read positive and rave reviews of our team - but sometimes we must be critical as well. Objectivity is important.

I thought Osgood was "solid". Solid in the fact that he has shown incredible improvement over the last week and is rounding into playoff shape. His first period effort was superb but I would be kidding myself if I thought what he did was remotely as impressive as his prior playoff runs.

Osgood has been a very good goaltender for well over a decade and ony receives a quarter of the respect that someone with his career deserves. That being said, he is not nearly as mentally tough the company he keeps. This has always been the criticism of his play. He far too easily rattled and often suffers lapses of concentration which leads to errors on his part and the occassional "soft" goal.

I think what is more important is that our defensive core looks to be solidifying and far more committed to providing Osgood with the support that he needs. What seperates the Wings and most teams, is not that they hit the opponent hard or stalwartly defend the blue line - is that they direct the pace and flow of the defensive end. They allow their opponents to take the shots they give them - low percentage. I would rather see Osgood face 35+ shots from the outside the circle, hugging the boards than see 10 shots directly in front of his. Positioning is imperative.

I saw the Wings commit to forcing their men in favorable angles and Osgood keeping his composure and positioning himself well - at least for two periods. Over the course of the next 10 games, if the Wings continue to focus on this and Osgood builds the confidence he needs - I will be far more comfortable than I am right now.

how am i not satisfied? I wasnt worried at all after either 8 goal game and still think we will have a great run. Our team is the best in the nhl and about as good of one as the cap can put together. But after a goalie gives up 3 goals in a game to a bad team i dont know if a thread should be started talking about how dominant he was or how great he played that game. Yes Ozzie played really well tonight but if thats the criteria for a new thread you could make one pretty much every game beside the 8 goal games.

some posters on here seem to get uber-pissed like their panties are in a bunch if anyone says anything other than ozzie is the greatest of all time and he does no wrong. Honestly, what is wrong with what i said? Was he good tonight? Yes, was he completely dominant like out of the ordinary in his play, no.

I was really irritated by that win, which some (including my girlfriend) don't understand. When they had the 4 goal lead, they ended up just standing around in the defensive zone, and for at least 2 of the 3 goals against, Osgood might as well have been on his own. He played great, deserved a shutout or one goal against, but the team played very lackadaisical with the lead in the third. Sure they could score basically at will, but I would have preferred a 2-0 or 3-1 win any day.

Either way, Ozzy has played great down the stretch, keep it up!

I made a prediction in the GDT before the game that Ozzie would play great but let in one goal and 90% of the discussion regarding the game would be analyzing that goal. Okay, he actually let in 3 goals, but this board is still so very predictable..

Ozzie was awesome. Some of the saves he made were sick. In my eyes this was the best game he's played this season, but I guess the people who only see the number 3 won't agree with me.

One of two things is happening here. Either 1) your knowledge of hockey, its play, and being able to recognize situations is sorely lacking or 2) you didn't watch the game as closely as you could have.

There was maybe one of those goals that Ozzie would want back, and that would be the third one, where he let the puck squirt through to the other side of the net and gave Stuart an open net to shoot. Otherwise, the other goals that got by him were the result of puck movement and really good scoring chances.

I've been against the idea of Ozzie starting in the playoffs for most of the season- until now. As long as he plays like he has in the last 4 games in the playoffs, we'll be just fine.

It is painfully obvious that Ozzie had zero confidence in himself earlier this season. It is good to see him focusing on positioning and keeping his head in the game. I noticed it last night, even when the puck wasn't in much danger of being shot on net, he was precise in his positioning and moving crisply in front of the net. He kept himself in position to make a save even when the Wings had possession.
