I dont post in GDT very often but I have to say... This is honestly the first time this season I have really been worried about our goaltending...

I have been hoping they will get it together but time is running out.

What do we do now?

Has Quincey ever been a goalie?

I know. It's not funny. As they're ALL playing right now, we will not win the Cup, let alone get out of the first round. I love them but they just keep doing to themselves.

Flip also just made a HORRIBLE decision to hold onto the puck rather than go right to the net.

PRETTY PASSES TO THE OUTSIDE AND KEEPING IT THERE WILL NOT SCORE GOALS.

The thing is, the first few goals were on the D, but when 4 goals have gone in - no matter if they're the Ds fault or not - the goalie HAS to shut the door. That 5th goal simply cannot go in. Even if its one. Theoretically, thats too many.

Thats not the Ds fault - thats the goaltending there.

The problem with this team is this:

1. If our goaltending sucks, our defense cant bail us out.

2. If our D sucks, our goaltending can't bail us out.

ONE of those two things has to be PERFECT for us to compete.

I'll give you the last one, but what of the others.

Detroit was amazing last year because they possessed the puck to a point that the other team would be frustrated by the time they got it. And if they did get it, rarely was it in front of the net, it was at the blue line and along the boards.

Very very rarely did Detroit lose a game when they were able to play their game.

This year they don't seem to be able to possess the puck even with NO pressure on them.

And I don't know about "perfect" to compete, clearly they are in this game. However to win games consistently in the playoffs (and I mean win not merely compete), they will need to be sharper.

I think this game shows how this isn't just a goalie problem. This issue goes much deeper. It isn't even all the defensemen's fault. The forwards aren't pl;aying good in their zone either. I am feel less and less good about the playoffs. It is hard enough to repeat when you are playing well, but when your defense, goaltender and special teams are mediocre at best... lets just say it isn't looking so promising.

I'm also blaiming it on lack of toughness.

At least people are being consistent on blaming things that aren't even the biggest problems.
