KronwallCRUNCH 5 Report post Posted May 10, 2009 This guy falls 1, 2, 7 times on any given shift. He gets the puck, skates up the boards, gets touched with a stick; he falls. He gets bumped by an opposing player; falls. He gets off of the bench and starts skating; falls. I don't think I've ever seen someone spend so much time on the ice (no, literally, laying on the ice) in my life. Maybe they should fill his skates up with some cement and make him like one of those punching bags that always bounces back up no matter how many times you knock it down.. Yea, he's really not a strong skater. Good hands, nice shot, not a good skater. But my god, is he competitive and puts in 110% every shift.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted May 10, 2009 I noticed this also. I was wondering if he was battling an injury or something, because I don't typically remember him being this bad.
Broken 16 381 Report post Posted May 10, 2009 I've never seen anyone fall as much as Cleary. It's crazy. Half the time he just falls down on his own, nobody within 5 feet of him and BOOM... ass to ice.

He is not normally like this. The injury that he is playing through maybe making it hard to stay on his skates.

Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted May 10, 2009 He can keep falling if he wants, +3 and an assist tonight. Falling = production.

Agreed. He can fall every other second and I won't care.. he puts up a considerable amount of goals, the highest plus/minus in the postseason (on the Wings), and puts more effort into his shifts than almost anybody. Keep falling, Cleary. I'll keep lovin' you. Edited May 10, 2009 by Ms_Hockey
Vincanni 1 Report post Posted May 10, 2009 Falling apparently means his working his ass off.

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Like many others have said, I've noticed this too. Don't now why he does it more than anyone else. Flip seems to have a falling problem himself.
The Mule 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 I don't care how often he falls if he continues to work his ass off for our team.
Antilles328 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 He's lazy and he sucks. Or he is distracting the other team with his blooper reel of skating.

Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted May 11, 2009 I've never seen anyone fall as much as Cleary. It's crazy. Half the time he just falls down on his own, nobody within 5 feet of him and BOOM... ass to ice. One thing I am pretty sure of is that Danny isn't diving. Maybe his balance just isn't that great. That being said, you can't say that the rest of the Wings aren't doing their part to win an Olympic medal in diving. Holy sheesh....anybody who complains that Crosby is a diver ought to stop being a Red Wings fan. After this series is over I am going to have a hard time believing anybody dives more than we do. I love my Wings but diving is dishonorable and disrespectful to the game and we're doing a heck of alot of it in this series.
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 He is not normally like this. The injury that he is playing through maybe making it hard to stay on his skates. I'm not too sure about that, I've noticed this the past two seasons actually.
HanKarin40 7 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 I've noticed him falling a lot too. I wondered if it had something to do with the visor he's been wearing. I know he's had it awhile now, but that's gotta be a huge adjustment to make when you're not used to wearing one. Hey, as long as he gets up quickly and keeps up the hard work ethic he has, I will not complain one bit!
ManLuv4Clears 7 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Of course I'm biased, but I love when people hate on a guy that would take a bullet to the temple over being scored on or not taking a hit to make a play.
Rivalred 630 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Cleary has been playing very well. The falling issue may be due to the gravitational force pulling him down, considering he carriers a lot of the weight of the team on his shoulders.
XxGoWingsxX 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Either of these legal in the NHL? LOL i know you're kidding but i'll still answer. The NHL has a rule about the length and curve of the skate blade so the short answer is NO lol

You listen to too many commentators. So, diving is dishonorable, but hooking and holding isn't? Diving is a way of trying to even some of that crap out. If the refs would call the games in the playoffs like they do in the regular season.....then you wouldn't see the diving. If the refs aren't going to call the stuff, then you will continue to see players do this in an attempt to get the refs to call it. Remember this.....When a player dives, he is diving for a reason. Usually because a player is hooking, holding etc.... Just because he doesn't fall down, shouldn't mean it doesn't get called, but that's what seems to happen in the playoffs. I just think this whole....calling someone dishonorable for diving crap is lame. Second, how do we know when a player is truely diving? Sometimes a player loses an edge, and it looks like he is diving.....and it happens at a time he is being hooked, tripped, slashed etc.... Just sayin, it is awful hard most of the time to determine when someone is diving. When you say someone is diving....it is all at someones discretion, and when you leave it up to someones judgement there are usually differing opinions. It just makes it really difficult. But I have noticed that you are one poster who seems to be a little more on the negative side (when discussing the wings) than most on here. Why is that? Are you always a glass half full guy, or are you just not a big wings fan? I know, I know.....let me guess.....Your a realist, right?
xBrave_Heartx 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 I noticed this also. I was wondering if he was battling an injury or something, because I don't typically remember him being this bad. He's been being held out of practice and has been thought to of had an injury this playoffs.. so my guess is a Groin injury.. or maybe he got hit with a shot on the boot, those tend to hurt.
