I will lose major respect for Chicago fans if

yeah that chant would for sure be classless but to be honest i won't be shocked if they do it. I was at the winter classic and when i went to the bathroom a guy was talking about pissing on me and another guy put a cigarette out on my jersey, so like i said that chant would just be normal for them. One thing about Chicago fans, they are spineless, the second they final of the WC was for sure, they stopped chirping and had nothing. I'm expecting the same when we win in 5.

Ha! it's funny you should say that! A blues fan put out a cigarette on my wings jersey at the scottrade center in St Louis :ranting: long story short, I spit on him and I had just drank orange juice an hour before so the spit was nice and goopy.

It's really strange to me that anybody, Hawks fan or not, would actually draw any joy out of the current economic situation. It's pretty pathetic when your self esteem as a hockey fan for your team is so low that you actually have to stoop to those levels.

The Hawk fans that supported the spirit of that thread are weak.

I can't believe some of you don' t think this is a big deal. This situation is hurting so many people not just in Detroit but all over the country and world. People are struggling to survive. Some people can't finish school and therefore will never have an opportunity to move up. It is very classless and pretty much disgusting to find joy out of this situation. It would be like going to a Rangers game and chanting "9/11" or going to Colorado and chanting "Columbine." While yes nobody has died as a direct result of the auto industry (outside of some suicides) the people here are hurting just like people of those cities were during those tragedies, and it would be equally classless for someone do do that.

It would be classless because it does not relate to Hockey however I disagree that it would be like the instances you mention, the victims in the cases you mention were innocent, many 3rd party vendors, small diners and other business that serviced the auto industry are innocent, but the big 3 and UAW are not. With the government and the union taking over the car companies it is only going to get worse for Detroit and Honda and Toyata's market share just continue to expand with all this bailout and ownership changing which is sad, Ford will survive this as long as they stay out of the bailout mess, but the other 2 will not, it is very sad but it cannot be compared to 9/11 or columbine.

I think the chant is fine. Detroit does deserve ridicule for letting itself fall into shambles. The big 3 have just plain effed up about everything they're done in the last 35 or so years. Management has been greedy, lazy, and underperforming, and the union workforce has been greedy, lazy, and underperforming. I think "sell more cars" is being pretty flippin'

charitable, as far as chants go.

That said, don't even get me started on the unions in Chicago.

they chant "Sell More Cars" at the United Center. That is just not right for some city to make fun of another city/state where people are losing their houses, jobs and some people have actually been so depressed to hurt others or themselves.

Into this series, I hate the hawks, but respect them a great deal. I will lose all respect (mostly towards the fans) if they end up doing that.

I brought this up, because supposedly this won the best chant contest on Chicago radio.

Sorry just had to get this off my chest.

Agreed. Keep the disliking and taunting to the teams only.

I'm from the New Orleans area. A year after Hurricane Katrina, the New Orleans Saints nearly made it to the Super Bowl, getting beaten by the Chicago Bears in the NFC Championship game. I didn't go to that game in Chicago but I had friends/family that did. I heard storis from my cousins who went to the game and pretty much every story I heard from Saints fans that Bear fans were absolute pr**ks. I heard stories of people getting pelted by snowballs, getting pelted with them with projectiles/batteries in the snowballs. I heard a story that Saints fans reported over-the-top behavior of Bear fans to police, and they basically told the Saints fans, "Tough s**t."

I even saw a picture of a Bear fan holding a sign that said "We're gonna finish what Hurricane Katrina started." Pissed me off to all ends. Basically like the Big Three/economy up in Michigan, Katrina is just something you don't make fun down here to locals without really pissing people off or making yourself look bad. It's just one of those no-no's.

I'm pretty sure all Bear fans aren't like that. Hopefully the same with Blackhawk fans.

Make fun of my team all you want. Make fun of me for liking my team. I'll laugh at that all day or just ignore. Make fun of my city or me living where I live or throwing projectiles at me or whatever, that's going too far.

My father is a Blackhawks fan. So yeah, I've met them. What's your point? I've met more douchebag Red Wings fans than I have douchebag fans of any other team. Does that mean I think all Wings fans are like those people? Nope.

My dad is a huuuge Blackhawks fan as well. And so is my uncle. Of course, the way they're looking at it, whichever team wins (WINGS!!, ha ha), they'll be happy with who gets to advance since they like both teams.

I prefer them to chant “Diversify your economy!â€

Two four-syllable words in one sentence?

Maybe they should try "Go Hawks" or something short to get them started.

always with the elegant wit, 55. Let them work up slowly to multiple syllables. :P

Hawks fans are no different from Wings fans. They love their team and want them to win. Stick to razzing players and the teams. I love the original six atmosphere and wish people wouldn't be so petty about things which are really hurting people in their lives. It says something not so nice about anyone who thinks it's funny to dump more misery on Detroit as a city. *cue sad violin music, yeah I know... :D

Seriously, stick to hockey, Hawks fans. Otherwise, I will lump you in with the worst fans in the league, Philadelphia. <_<

edit: punct

I was at the Winter Classic with my 7 1/2 month pregnant wife. We were both decked out in Red Wings gear and all the Chicago fans were awesome to us. We had such a great time ribbing back and forth, one guy next to us even got my wife some hot chocolate because he thought she looked cold. Every team has jerk fans but Chicago has some really good ones too.

I guess wings fan could chant back with "Thanks 4 Obama" Obviously with sarcasm.

Hawks fans are worse haters of the Wings than any other fans.

You've obviously never met Micah or E_S_A_D they hate on the Wings more than any Hawks fan.

Michigan has so done it's economy to itself. Capitalism made it great, socialism tore it down. Michigan is land of the worker, comrade. Government requires too much pay for too little work and when a plant goes out of business they have to keep paying the workers forever to not work. And the majority of idiot voters keep trying to fix what socialism has done to the State with MORE socialism. What about making it a right to work State and trying to get new auto plants built there? Churchill said, "The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries." Michigan has chosen the latter. Which is why after growing up there I work where the jobs are. OUTSIDE Michigan.

I'd be more indignant if Chicago chants about cars if they weren't right.

I read this thread then had a shower and laughed about the absurdity of such a chant. I mean, it doesn't even make sense as an insult. Detroit really has very little to do with the actual selling of cars. It's like chanting "Get less AIDS" at the Botswanan soccer team. Sure, it may not have the syllabic resonance of the usual "Detroit sucks!" chant, but at least "Make better cars" would make slight sense as an insult, classless though it may be.

It made me wonder about the stupidity of the average Hawks fan, if this chant actually received a majority vote for this radio station.

In April I went to a Hawks/Wings game at the United Center and sat near an unpleasant overweight lady wearing Blackhawks pyjamas with bright red dyed hair. While not from Chicago, nor from the U.S., I was still kind of embarrassed to know I was of the same species as her... or we at least shared a common ancestor, I hoped it was the latter. Of course at every opportunity along with the rest of the Hawks fanbase she would chant "Detroit sucks!" which amused me. I think she was more showing off the fact she could pronounce a 6-letter word like "Detroit" instead of saying "moo". Detroit wasn't the only object of ire from her though. She also felt the need to berate Eddie Olczyk when he appeared on the monitor.... "YOU SUCK OLZIK!!". Furthermore, she got quite irate at the Lemonheads animation when she didn't win her race (those of you that have recently been to the United Center will know what I'm talking about).

However, I thought someone like her would surely not be too common in Chitown. I mean, what a great city it is. Perhaps too great though if someone like that could procure Row 2 season tickets. When given thought, I can only assume that the State of Illinois has an excellent welfare system. Perhaps one that compounds when someone has an obvious mental disability as well as being over 400lbs. This would explain how such a voice of stupidity can resound throughout Chicago and come up with a chant so lame, nonsensical and classless.

My thoughts go out to the intelligent citizens of Chicago. I know you exist, though you seem to fade further and further into obscurity.

LMAO Very funny post. By the way the only time Detroit only has 6 letters is when it's pronounced '"D-troit." ;)

*Love your sig!

That is most odd. Mom's family is from Illinois (which does indeed have a fantastic welfare system if you're not a taxpayer) and the woman you described sounds like not only every member of my family, but like me as well (minus the 'hawks gear, of course). The problem is that Mom is the only one of her family who likes hockey. She married a good Detroit boy. Funny that you mention it, but my sister (in Illinois) and I greet each other with the word "moo".

Being inbred, I know all of my relatives, so on behalf of the Great State of Illinois, as well as my entire clan, I hereby apologize to you.

As far as the original topic is concerned, it is completely classless and uncalled for to attack a city rather than its team. If they chanted "Cheli sucks" or something, I would take it in stride.

I suppose "Fake more votes" would be outdated?
