Fedorov to join KHL

This seems kind of odd. He had a good thing in Washington with a young core of guys with a bright future. They were one win away from the ECF, which might as well have been considered one win away from the SCF. You would think he would hold out for at least another year to try to win the cup one last time.

I've always had the utmost respect for Sergei's talent... but he's always had a screwed up sense of his self-worth. good luck to him, and heck, good luck to the KHL.

If Yzerman was the heart of the Wings, then Feds was the soul. No single player helped to establish the skill and high level at which the red wings have become known for than Sergei.

Totally agree. Best of luck to him.

The money's better and competition level is lower, so, makes sense.

Good luck, Sergei.

I wonder if he's going to get to 500 career NHL goals before he hangs up his skates. In 2 years, he might not have a spot left in the NHL unless he hits the juice over in Russia. I guess we'll see. Maybe he'll come back for one last year with the Wings and hit #500. That would be nice.

My 2nd favorite player ever, and a guy who should have finished his career in Detroit.

I sense a Fedorov Hall of Famer thread coming soon. :D

Oh, that bit is beyond question. Anyone who doesn't think he's a lock for the HOF is blinded by their own hatred for him. The real question is whether #91 will hang from the rafters.

Oh god, isn't that what players do before they call it quits?!?! They go back to their roots and play just a little bit and then retire. No, this can't be happening. Cause then there's only one... Kozlov, and then he's going to retire. And then I'm going to freak out cause he was the youngest one and then I'm going to realize that I'm old. I mean Shanahan's going soon I'm sure. And then the remainders of my childhood... Lidstrom, Holmstrom, Drapes, Malts, and Ozzie. I can't take it. I think I'm going to be sick.

Anywho, I wish him the best of luck. One of my all time favorites. I know a lot of Wings fans didn't like him but stats can't lie that much. He did a lot. Hell of a player. Plus, my uncle worked with him and said he was a very pleasant person.

Meh. This really depends on the kind of offer he gets from Washington. A $2M per year contract should be enough motivation for him to stay another season. With Fedorov we're not talking Jagr money; the difference maker is going to be playing with his brother and moving home to Russia.

To me Feds leaving the NHL brings closure to the bad break up he had with us, the fans. We were all pissed that he left, and we felt like he was a traitor. In reality its because we felt like he was one of our own and we wanted him here helping us win more cups. If its true that he's out of the NHL, does that means its over and he's not really cheating on us anymore? Can confess that we still have love for Feds and re-embrace him? Feds may have been my favorite player until he started signing offer sheets with Carolina and then left for Anaheim. I wonder if he thinks he made a mistake by leaving Detroit.....

Do a good job of breaking hearts of fans in the US...?

Yashin probably had more benjamins than fans.

We were not all pissed when he left and not all of us felt like he was a traitor. Some of us actually felt quite the opposite actually. See wasted money on Curtis Joseph. He is my favorite player of all time and while it sucked to have to see him play for other teams I could at least see him play. :(
