It's worrisome.

I'm just not sure how long the Wings can keep rolling without Datsyuk and Lidstrom -- it's going to really takeits toll the more games played without them.

we made it through a whole series and half without him

Offensively yes, but he was playing shut down defense in both of those series as well. I think that anyoe who thinks the Wings can win long term without him in the line-up is in lala land from last game.

what actually is Lidstrom's ailment?

Whatever Rafalski had a few weeks ago. ;)

It was one thing to step up for one game without these guys. I'm a little worried about asking the team to do it again, but I think they are up to the task.

Hope Huet is in....and then out. :)

I hope Babcock is right when he thinks that they will play in the next game. It is unlikely Detroit will win the cup without both of them.

this is fine by me...

Dats proved this series and last when he is not 100% he is nothing special one bit and not needed out there.

lids has been looking pretty shakey back there on the D making some bone head mistakes so its best he rest for the finals.

we did it before and it will be even sweeter if we knock off the hawks with them out :D

What??

Well first things first: f***. My. Life.

Now that that's over with... I'm not surprised by this move at all. With the prospect of having to play the first two games of the finals back to back on zero rest, it's probably the wisest move not to risk Dats' or Lids' health unless they're completely recovered. I know Babs said they'll play if they're ready, regardless of the rest issue, but I suspect the reality is less black and white than that ;)

The X-rays showed no damage on datsyuk, atleast that's what's been reported... or are they not telling the truth?

Just because the x-rays didn't reveal damage, doesn't mean there isn't soft-tissue damage anyway. And to top it all off, I suspect they aren't going to tell the truth anyway :P

Even Superman has his kryptonite.

Lids has been having trouble with his elbow all year, I don't find it surprising he would probably need surgery in the offseason as that has been talked about since the All-Star Break (being the reason he didn't go).

I think once you get past 35ish it goes away for sure. He is about as close as you can find though.

I'm not too worried about this. The biggest loss for those two is the defensive abilities, and at this point I am positive they don't need them to finish Chicago anyway. The Pens.. are a different story they will need them back at that point, assuming Chicago doesn't pull a miracle. *knocks on wood, hard*

Yep, this will be only the 2nd playoff game he has missed in his career. At his age and on a team that has made the playoffs every year since he got here, that's incredible.

The latest two updates I read:

“Datsyuk, who worked out extensively in the gym, said he blocked a shot during the penalty-kill in the second period of Game 2 vs. Chicago. Oddly enough, the puck hit him in the same spot as it did in Game 5 vs. Anaheim. X-rays revealed no damage, however.â€

“Datsyuk skated in a track suit Wednesday morning, while Lidstrom did nothing more than ride a stationary bike. Neither player addressed the media.â€
