SCF GAME 2 GDT: Penguins 1 at Red Wings 3

thats just the thing, Playoff hockey is won with lucky bounces and timely depth scoring. Detroit has won like this before i.e. McCarty in '97. Depending on Malkin and Crosby to carry the entire team is the Penguins downfall just like LeBron with the Cavaliers this year. Champions are won with a total team effort. Will, determination, and timely scoring is what separates Champions from Penguins.

Well said

The Wings have proven that defense and a team effort win championships.

As an aside: No way should Malkin be suspended for that. Yeah, it's in the rulebook, but damn... like one previous poster said: If Walker ain't getting suspended, Malkin sure as hell isn't.

An aside Part II: Yes, the series is still young, but doesn't it seem so far that Getzlaf and Perry struck more fear into you offensively than Crosby and Malkin? Maybe it was because they played on the same line, but I think a big part of that feeling -- at least for me -- is that they physically brought it virtually every shift and would grind down the Wings in the offensive zone... None of that from the Pittsurgh duo.

I can't wait to see Hossa score in Pittsburgh...every time he gets the puck I get twitchy lol.

I must say, Fedotenko played pretty well today just like yesterday. I really want the wings to dress Downey just for s***s and giggles, but all the 3rd and 4th line guys are playing pretty well.

My team sucks? well they just outplayed the defending champs twice at home. You can't deny that. lol, Dats has one goal in 13 games. I thought he overcame his disappearing act in the playoffs last year, but he was at it again this year before he got hurt. he is soft.

Outplayed at times yes...... BUT still down 2 games. can you deny that.... The stanley cup goes to the winner of 4 games out a 7 game series and right now your STILL down 2 games.

If Datsyuk was in the game would your team be ignoring him? so take Datsyuk out of the equation You should feel very lucky he's not there Your ONLY D MAN would be trapped with him

Yep, your team tried their hardest and still lost.

And if you really believe all that stuff you just said about Pavel... then I just pity you.

I guess it's easier to be cool, calm and rational when your team is winning.

Pens do not suck, that is taking it a bit far.

Outplayed us? Well this is a biased argument and since i am a Wings fan i will say we outplayed the Pens both games. You took it to us because you had to, we were up 2 goals in the 3rd both games. You took it to us for the most part in the 1st and we owned the 2nd, 3rd period we just played possession and limited your chances.

On Datsyuk,

Datsyuk soft? I hope you keep thinking that along with the pens.

Goals? Your talking about goals? LOL!

Shows how uneducated you are in hockey.

Datsyuk's backchecking and defensive play > Penguins D

Worst part about all this for you, Wings only play better as a series goes on.

GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bet you will take your lucky 2-0 series lead. Good luck in game 3, but you don't really need me wishing you good luck, you have s***loads of it, lol

Man, I'd hate to be a Pens fan when Detroit stops winning on "luck" and does it just convincingly... What's going to happen with with the grab-bag of excuses then?

Speaking of disappearing, what happens to Malkin, Crosby and Fleury come the Finals.

As for outplaying us. I don't think you have, but if you have and you're still down 2-0, then your team sucks even worse than I thought you did.

I sure hope your team believes that they outplayed detroit, that way they won't fix all the issues they are having. BTW, I don't care who dominated, I will take outscoring a team 6-2 anyday.

You sure you want to playground taunt here? You didn't outplay us. If you did, you'd be up 2-0, not us. And don't bother retorting to this with "you cheat" or "the refs are in your favor" or any other claptrap.

LOL Outplayed. Outscoring your team 6-2 isn't being outplayed.

Um, you are getting the breaks dude, bank shots and weird bounces, players covering the puck in the crease, a blatant missed call leading to tonight's 2nd goal, while your opponents are hiting goal posts. I'll give you luck and making the most of the opportunities given. But you were outplayed and outshot both games. That is pretty clear to people who follow hockey.

Well since I see 172 'guests' here right now let me be clear and give them something to post on their wittle board

Your team is NOT better than the Red Wings. You weren't last year, you're not this year. Penguins fans make more excuses than any other fans I've ever seen. The Final schedule was put in place to help you and help Conan O'Brien get ratings. Thus far, EPIC FAIL. Suddenly the Penguins look like the injured, older slower team and the Wings are making their own breaks. In building up Crosby and Malkin up into superheroes who make no mistakes, the Wings role players like Abdelkader and Helm and Ericksson are outshining the faces of the Bettman NHL. Put that in your pipes and smoke it.

The Wings horrible goalie, this Osbad will cost them the cup, it's why most of the 'experts' said Fleury had the advantage in that category coming into the Final. Osgood's a sieve looking for a place to happen, it's why his GAA since he took over for Hasek last year is under 1.60. Fleury's caffeinated squirrel style of netminding is brilliant, utterly unbreakable.

I'd personally like to give a shout out to all the series prognosticators who in breaking down the series said they saw advantages for the Red Wings in almost all categories and YET they were picking the Penguins because of, well, they just had a hunch. The Pens were a year older, and wiser and had learned SO MUCH in their loss last year that they HAD to win.

The rules governing the game have already been changed to protect Malkin from suspension so please, stop sniveling about the puck on Osgood's back, stop crying about the supposed ghostly interference the Wings are always somehow committing, and for the love of god please stop crying about Hossa, he played for you for 3 months. He made a choice, stop peeing your diapers over it. Thus far it looks like he made the right choice. Imagine that, a pro athlete who doesn't just play for money, he plays for the team trophy.

And a personal message from me to the 172 guests, and this is MY comment and does not reflect on the management here:

Penguins hockey, real popular since the 2005 draft

#1 bolded statement is right on. Crosby and Malkin are brilliant players but Bettman and his hype honchos have built them up to impossible standards. If we win the Stanley Cup I'd like to think Bettman might learn something from that....nawww...

The second bolded statement is a hilarious description of Fleury right now. Thanks for taking the time to write all this.

yep, 2 big saves in the crease by zetterberg, but hey if you can get away with it why not. That is a rule that should be enforced along with Hossa's hook and then slash that lead to the 2nd goal. The breaks are going to go the other way soon guys, don't get cocky. It will come back to bite you in the ass.

You make your own breaks. And that was no penalty on Hossa...that was distinctly different from a situation where you bring a stick down and chop it in half. They were battling, Dupuis' POS stick broke.

Anyway, relax, at least you held onto the state title this year!

(yes, NHL.com actually sold these last year)

So what you're saying is that you outplayed us and you're still down 2-0?

Doesn't that mean that your team is OVERRATED?

Very, very true my friend.

In looking forward to game 3, I think the Wings learned their lesson from last year's; whatever the reason was as to why they lost. They'll be fresher and maybe Pav will bring his 17 goals.

Sad that those are actually sold, btw.

But I am so sick of that Hossa "should have been penalty". Crosby did it to Hank numerous times in the neutral zone, only much more hooking, but nothing is called. If you start calling little chinsy calls, the game will be one consistent pp/pk.

The Pens have created some havoc with their dump ins and forechecks. The Wings D have their backs to the forecheckers and it's lead to some turnovers. Pittsburgh deserves credit for that, but at the same time I feel like the Wings are showing some signs of fatigue. The key difference between the teams so far seems to be the Wings getting more of a net presence from their forwards (all 4 lines have guys who can create havoc in front of the net, deflect point shots and poke in rebounds) and Osgood outplaying Fleury (by a mile).

To win these two games without Datsyuk and with so many players either out or playing through injuries - on back to back nights, no less - is extremely encouraging. I was thinking a split at home would be the best they could hope for, but a 2-0 lead is a pleasant surprise. But the Pens have overcome 2-0 before and I'm sure believe they can do it again.

The day off should help the Wings immensely. If they can get Datsyuk back, that should give them a big lift. Draper, too.

One thing I'm really enjoying about this series is the Wings are winning when they're not at their best. This was the kind of series Detroit lost 5 years ago. Outshoot a team, show off skill and then get beaten by a more determined team that outworked them and made their breaks by playing tough and scoring ugly goals. Now, the Wings have learned how to do those things themselves. They've been outshot, but they've come up with the big efforts when they needed it and they're the one making life easy on their own goalie.

Osgood is the MVP so far.

GO WINGS!!!!!
