Manoir 70 Report post Posted July 16, 2009 (edited) This redefines the term "killer road trip" The schedule includes a two-week break for the Olympics. However, due to the Olympics, the Canucks will have 14 straight road games before and after the Games, including 8 games before the Olympics, and 6 games after the Olympics. After the Canucks play at home on January 27th, they don't play a game at GM Place until March 13th! http://www.news1130.com/news/more.jsp?cont...6012&page=1 Edited July 16, 2009 by Manoir

thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted July 16, 2009 On the bright side, they should have some long home stands, and this road trip is divided.

going_top_shelf 6 Report post Posted July 16, 2009 Well the Olympics will kinda be like home games for them Well, I have the olympics...that's kind of like a home game. Haha, just thought that was funny. In all seriousness though I feel pretty bad for Vancouver because not being at home for that amount of time would seem like it would be really hard on your personal life. Even if there were breaks in between.

SweWings 45 Report post Posted July 16, 2009 This just sounds stupid. How hard would it have been to throw in one home game right before or after the Olympics?
waitahochiminute 2 Report post Posted July 16, 2009 I thought our schedule was bad (which it is cause we travel to San Jose and Phoenix of all places) but this is horrible.
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted July 16, 2009 (edited) It's payback for bitching about their road games last season. "Oh, you think LAST season was bad? Watch THIS!" Edited July 16, 2009 by edicius
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted July 16, 2009 It's payback for bitching about their road games last season. "Oh, you think LAST season was bad? Watch THIS!" haha I'm assuming they need the time before and the time after to prepare the arena for Olympic stuff, so the GM place will be unavailable for hockey. OsGOD 3 Report post Posted July 16, 2009 (edited) cool! from where i am here... every vancouver game is a road game (except at the JLA)... so it makes no difference to me! Edited July 16, 2009 by OsGOD
raasc1dj 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2009 This just sounds stupid. How hard would it have been to throw in one home game right before or after the Olympics? Probably because Olympic hockey is played on Olympic sized ice and the ice will be prepared to fit that size ahead of time. So, I'm assuming that is why. OsGOD 3 Report post Posted July 16, 2009 Yeah i mean if a 14game road trip would result in the olympics being played here in Detroit.. i would say Bring it on! Sucks we don't get to ever have either

betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted July 17, 2009 Well, I have the olympics...that's kind of like a home game. Haha, just thought that was funny. In all seriousness though I feel pretty bad for Vancouver because not being at home for that amount of time would seem like it would be really hard on your personal life. Even if there were breaks in between. It's a full two-week break in between, which is longer than the usual homestand. Six games isn't too bad, it's on the long end of things but it's not at all unprecedented. Eight is a stretch, but they obviously make up for it by having a whole bunch of home games mashed together. Can't be because here: http://www.vancouver2010.com/en/athletes-a...ice-hockey.html it says that Ice Hockey will be played on a North American sized rink. It's because they have to get rid of all the advertisements. The signs on the stadium, inside the arena, underneath the ice - everything. Can't have corporate sponsorship in Olympic venues. And they need a much much much bigger press box than they have now, so they have to do some temporary conversions. Hence the need to keep the Canucks out.
