Vancouver to play 14 straight road games.

This redefines the term "killer road trip"

The schedule includes a two-week break for the Olympics. However, due to the Olympics, the Canucks will have 14 straight road games before and after the Games, including 8 games before the Olympics, and 6 games after the Olympics.

After the Canucks play at home on January 27th, they don't play a game at GM Place until March 13th!

ya that aint right at all. That kinda nonsence could affect a teams place in the standings, like what if they were a point out of 8th seed id probably point my finger at those 14 games and ask why no other team got that type of schedual.

Because no other city is hosting the Olympics.

Well the Olympics will kinda be like home games for them

Well, I have the olympics...that's kind of like a home game. Haha, just thought that was funny.

In all seriousness though I feel pretty bad for Vancouver because not being at home for that amount of time would seem like it would be really hard on your personal life. Even if there were breaks in between.

It's payback for bitching about their road games last season.

"Oh, you think LAST season was bad? Watch THIS!"

haha

I'm assuming they need the time before and the time after to prepare the arena for Olympic stuff, so the GM place will be unavailable for hockey.

cool! from where i am here... every vancouver game is a road game (except at the JLA)... so it makes no difference to me!

This just sounds stupid. How hard would it have been to throw in one home game right before or after the Olympics?

Probably because Olympic hockey is played on Olympic sized ice and the ice will be prepared to fit that size ahead of time. So, I'm assuming that is why.

It's a full two-week break in between, which is longer than the usual homestand. Six games isn't too bad, it's on the long end of things but it's not at all unprecedented. Eight is a stretch, but they obviously make up for it by having a whole bunch of home games mashed together.

Can't be because here: http://www.vancouver2010.com/en/athletes-a...ice-hockey.html it says that Ice Hockey will be played on a North American sized rink.

It's because they have to get rid of all the advertisements. The signs on the stadium, inside the arena, underneath the ice - everything. Can't have corporate sponsorship in Olympic venues. And they need a much much much bigger press box than they have now, so they have to do some temporary conversions. Hence the need to keep the Canucks out.
