xBrave_Heartx 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2009 Dedication at its finest. Why would i support a team that doesn't support the style of play i prefer? Just doesn't make sense. I bled Red and White my whole life. Just so happens I am fed up with seeing a team with no back bone. I could care less about winning if it means doing it methodical and boring, or supporting my home town team just to stick to my roots, It's not like I am jumping off a bandwagon because the team isn't successful. It's because they just don't meet my needs as a hockey fan. I want to win just as much as the next person. But i love fighting, hitting and chirping. Something that rarely happens during red wings games. Within the past 2 seasons i have been to 8 Wings games. It's not like I wasn't dedicated to the team, But i just dont get what i want out of the wings.
newfy 695 Report post Posted July 30, 2009 geez sure hope we sign him... we could really use his size, grit, two-way ability, and of course his ability to score in the playoffs My thoughts exactly
ShanahanMan 473 Report post Posted July 30, 2009 (edited) I just can't get this out of my head. Jason Useless Williams? This had to be a joke right? If Holland signs this guy for any more then the league minimum, he will have officially lost his mind and I'd want him OUT of the GM chair. cjm502 165 Report post Posted July 30, 2009 I'd love to have Williams back, doesn't sound as though he really wants to come back though... There is NO way he would be signed for $2.5 mil, that number is a complete lie. Exactly. We would never sign a player (we are not that interested in) for more than his last years salary. Also, me and you are the only ones who want it to happen.
AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted July 30, 2009 I wouldn't freak out if he is signed, at that number, though, that is ridiculous. He knows the system, can skate, and has good puck handling skills. Maybe that offer was made figuring they would have to replace Hudler. I think he and Williams wear the exact same size. Makes it easy on the equipment guy. Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted July 30, 2009 Exactly. We would never sign a player (we are not that interested in) for more than his last years salary. Also, me and you are the only ones who want it to happen. I think some people have unrealistic expectations. It's the end of July, there's virtually no one that's any good left and ex-Wing Jason Williams is available. This is a guy who went close to 60 points while here not that long ago. He's got his faults and he's frustrating at times but he can certainly put up the points, he knows what it's like to play here and if he comes cheap (which he will, ignore the $2.5 rumour) it will be a good addition by Kenny. We need more scoring depth to replace the goals lost by Hossa, Samulesson and most likely Hudler. I'm certainly for this possible signing.

If you read my earlier posts I go in to more detail. Im going to guess we offered him $1.4-$1.7m. You really cant believe that the best gm in hockey would do that, there is no way. RedFX 48 Report post Posted July 30, 2009 I could care less about winning if it means doing it methodical and boring, So you're saying you'd be satisfied with an 0-82 season as long as we start a brawl at the end of each game? CONGRATULATIONS!!!! YOU'VE JUST BEEN ACCEPTED INTO THE PREDATORS FAN BASE!!!!!!!!!!!
RedFX 48 Report post Posted July 30, 2009 And one more thing to add. I'm really skeptical about this 2.5 million number being tossed around. And by skeptical, I mean I consider it a steaming pile of monkey crap. Consider the source

Snazzy 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2009 Please, was this sarcasm or not? Yes he is. Jason Williams is a frustrating player to watch. I was never very fond of him and he was LGWs official whipping boy.

Guest micah Report post Posted July 30, 2009 So you're saying you'd be satisfied with an 0-82 season as long as we start a brawl at the end of each game? CONGRATULATIONS!!!! YOU'VE JUST BEEN ACCEPTED INTO THE PREDATORS FAN BASE!!!!!!!!!!! I take it you're unaware of the fact that the Preds are in the 25% of teams least likely to fight, right? You should watch hockey, I bet you'd like it. Why is everyone giving xBraveheartx a bad time? I say I'm a wings fan forever, even though I do not like their current style of play, and I get told "Go root for the Ducks, go be a Flyers fan", etc. Braveheart says he doesn't like the Wings' current style of play and he's gonna find a different team, and he gets lauded by the same crowd. Bye! Try not to let the door hit you in the ****** on the way out! This must be one of thos e"smart, classy" Wings fans I keep reading about.
Cern 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2009 I could care less about winning if it means doing it methodical and boring This argument always makes me laugh. They don't engrave s*** like "they played defensively-minded hockey" on the cup alongside the team name. How teams win is completely irrelevant.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted July 30, 2009 (edited) I actually kind of enjoy how the Wings dismantle teams with a professional coolness, myself. Fights and grittiness are fun, but I'd rather have a winning team and too often grit comes at the expense of talent. Go ahead and root for the Leafs, at least your summer will be wide open. How teams win is completely irrelevant. I don't believe that you think that "How teams win is completely irrelevant". You'd root for a team that would do anything to get that all-important win? Is cheating okay by you? Buying off refs? Attempting to injur another teams' star players?

I dunno, there was something refreshing about watching Crosby raise the Cup. Emotion is a great thing to witmess, I get enough "professional coolness" at my job. Maybe if I were unemployed or had a job doing something menial I'd see it differently.

I agree - I wouldn't mind a lot of you finding another team to root for; as opposed to bitching nonstop about the way the Wings have played the game for the past decade - because things are not going to change anytime soon. Did you know the Grand Rapids Griffins set a record last season? For least amount of penalties in the AHL; ever. And that was with McCarty and Downey on the team. http://www.mlive.com/griffins/index.ssf/20...y_as_least.html Yeah, that should give you a lot of hope.... Hopefully, I'll quit hearing Wings fans spewing the tired old lines about how dressing a toughguy will result in lots of time on the PK. Also, I was pretty happy with the Wings for most of the past decade, sorry to burn your pitiful strawman down. For most of the past decade they've dressed guys who could fight and they've been succesful, what's not to love? This past regular season, with no sustained physical presence, that got kinda boring...and the Brad Norton experiment a few years back was painful to watch, but mostly I've been content. As long as we dress a Shanny or a Downey or a McCarty, I 'm happy. I'd still like us to be tougher, but that's enough to keep me from bitching, and hold my attention on November nights. It's been a decade since the Wings have had over 30 fights in a season, and a far cry from when we saw 50+ or 100+ in a season. Learn what a strawman fallacy is before you throw the term around.... Ah, the slippery slope argument, another classic. LET'S SNEAK NUCLEAR BOMBS INTO THE OPPONENTS LOCKER ROOMS TOO, THAT SOUNDS TOTALLY RATIONAL AND NOT RIDICULOUSLY OUT OF PROPORTION TO THE RULES OF THE GAME. Seriously, stop trying to be a smart-alecky dick and get real. Style of play and blatantly breaking the rules of the game aren't like things, if you didn't have the rationality of a 12-year-old you'd understand that. It's a completely moot point anyway given that "Attempting to injur another teams' star players" is the sort of broad-street-bully approach YOU essentially are pushing for.
