Pyatt and Malhotra NOT on Wings shopping list

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Per Mlive:

Taylor Pyatt, who played for Vancouver last season, and Manny Malhotra, who played for Columbus, do not appear to be on the Red Wings' shopping list. Pyatt's agent, Todd Christie, said he has had no conversations with anyone in Detroit. Malhotra's agent, Paul Krepelka, said he made a pitch to the Red Wings on July 1 but hasn't spoken to anyone in the organization since then.

Malik comments further on this:

Scratch them off the shopping list...So that leaves Williams, Petr Skyora, who the Bolts are also pursuing (per reports from the Czech media), Vaclav Prospal, maybe Mike Grier (but, per Khan, not likely unless he's still on the market in September, and will take a sub-$1 million deal), Maxim Afinogenov, who's ironically training with Dynamo...

Aw well....

Insert overdramatic we're not tough enough/we're too cowardly/Holland is a moron rant here.

Insert unnecessary "I'm so calm about the situation" comment despite Holland offering a contract to Jason ******* Williams. Maybe next year we can resign Devereaux and trade to get Kopecky back.

I think you just proved his point though.

Lets get Kyle Calder and Robert Lang back whilst we're at it. People we trade away because we dont want them when we wernt good enough to win the cup are OBVIOUSLY going to win us a Stanley cup when theyre 4 or 5 years older!

I am mega calm about the situation meaning I am a better fan than anyone cos obviously I have a level head by not caring which lumps of mediocrity we sign.

Did I? I don't think I made any statements regarding Pyatt or Malhotra, I don't care if we sign them or not. I do care however about signing Williams again, I'd rather give the spot to someone from GR than waste any more time on this guy.

Bingo.

It'd be one thing if this team was utter garbage and not even coming close to making the playoffs over and over again, but it is quite the opposite the last 10+ years, especially the last 3 seasons with a Stanley Cup, another SCF appearance, and a deep playoff run into the confernece finals.

I think this team will survive possibly not signing a guy like Pyatt or Malhotra or Grier and/or siginng Williams/Sykora if it comes to that given their very successful track record for quite some time over longer than a decade.

Spoiled fans.

yeah you overreacted just a bit there just like he said people would. Devereaux? Trade to get Kopecky's back? You really think that's the same as Jason Williams just because they all used to be Red Wings? Now I'm not crazy about Williams coming back either but those 2 aren't the same thing. If Williams signs I'll wait and see what happens before I say if it works or not. Ken Holland knows more than me or anyone else on this board so I'll let him do his job and then if it doesn't work, say my piece.

 - 6 choppers at once...But he came back to finish the game

Anyone else think there's an outside chance of Holland looking at Dominic Moore?

Bertuzzi and Moore - book it!

Malhotra must be asking for a lot... sucks.

You're all wrong. The only way to the promised land is to bring Tomas Sandström out of retirement.

I stated in a previous post that although i have serious doubts, Williams had his second best year last year in Columbus and had more points than we all remember (47 last year)...more than Flip and Sammy. I ran into Willy in the parking lot at The Labatts Centre last summer and I said hello to him and told him I was a Wings fan. I said that we would miss him and he stated that he would miss being with the Wings.....

The hesitancy is probably numbers but I think williams wants to play with detroit again and we should wait and see before we make him the goat. If the guy can produce I would prefer him on the PP than F'n Sammy, who could NEVER hold the line. If he does sign, lets see what happens. The guy can play some solid hockey and although he is streaky, he is capable.

Ugh, at least make an attempt at Prospal, please. He'd be better than Jason freaking Williams and with the Bolts paying off his old contract we could probably get away with offering a reduced price.

If true about Malhotra, I'm kind of bummed. . . I would have liked to see what he could have done on the Wings. No big deal though. . . we all agree that we are looking at 3rd and 4th liners. However the holes are filled, they will be filled by the best the management comes up with for the price. 29 other NHL teams shop free agency for their top 2 lines. . . what a gift we Wings fans have in the depth this organization provides and restocks year in, year out.

Personally, since Williams was let go previously, I would not want to see him back on the team. I have not seen much improvement in his game since his departure. That, along with his talk about looking at the KHL would immediately send me in the other direction.

I guess the next bit of info is how much the arbitrator decides Huds is worth. After that, I think Detroit signs one guy rather quickly and then may bring some invites to camp for a look in Traverse City.

We are still going to win the Central. We are still going to be a #1 or #2 seed. And, I still think we will win the West and hoist the Cup again!

Which means that we'll be signing Molhotra and/or Pyatt very soon!

Just sign Murph. He's down there already. No sense having someone have to make an extra trip.

Pyatt and Malhotra weren't on my wish list, but I wouldn't have said no to either of them had the price been right.

Nope, that would only be true if Eklund had reported that Malhotra and Pyatt had had no contact with the Wings.

If Malhotra had any interest in Detroit as this suggests, we still have a good chance of landing him.

Holland has been fairly relaxed in his approach to signing UFAs because of the Hudler deal. To know that Malhotra has interest may take away some of the pressure to send out offers, etc... the longer he has to wait, the lower his price will go as we get closer to the preseason.

There are several solid options out there aside from Williams...
