waitahochiminute 2 Report post Posted August 10, 2009 Im under the impression that this team doesn't really need anything. Because they keep winning and getting deep into the playoffs (duh). We lost some players...so what? The young talent is there and adding a "goon" wouldn't fit in this style of play would it? This team is going to be elite for many years to come...sheesh. Guest Shoreline Report post Posted August 10, 2009 (edited) Shoreline and Micah, you two need to get a room.... I'd tell micah to get laid but apparently he's married -- likely to his Brock Lesnar/Derek Boogaard posters and roids, which explains all the angst when you tear his poor arguments apart, eh micah? Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2009 I totally agree with you on that point, and I hate it how certain posters here (whose names I won't mention) constantly talk about the Wings being a soft team. For some inexplicable reason I always get grouped in with these pro-enforcer slappies, but I've never actually said anything about our team being soft, or even alluded to it in distant ways. However, some of these other posters, as you mentioned, do need to grow up and stop making fun of our European boys. BTW, it's been a while since I posted my favorite Franzen moment, so have a look see. How can anyone call this man soft or compare him to a ballerina? Youtube I don't see how Franzen's "softness" has any bearing on who we put on the fourth line.

You were complaining about people calling the Wings roster soft. Well, Franzen is on the Wings roster isn't he? Also, he's not the only player on the team that's turtled before in scrums or acted tougher than what he really is. I was just showing an example of what you don't like being showcased. It's just a fact you'll have to live with.

At least Lapointe stood up for himself from time to time. You call the Wings soft because they have a player like Franzen on the team who dives. Lapointe was on the 97 and 98 teams, yet I don't think anyone would call those teams soft. So once again, what does Franzen's "diving" have to do with who plays on the fourth line? Because that is the reason that people like you get in your sarcastic moods and like to chirp about. Signing players like Grier and such.

Franzen embodies what most of our players are like when there's a scrum or an altercation. Lapointe isn't a symbolism of those Cup teams. Those teams were for the most part tough and physical, including Lapointe who fought from time to time. Don't know why he acted that way in the video, though. So yeah, there's always a diver and softie on every team, but on this team that's par for the course.

The only ones I know that dive are Maltby (who we have no choice but to have and would rather see gone), Franzen (who is a great offensive asset to the team), and Samuelsson (who was a total *****). Zetterberg has defended himself, and even Datsyuk defends himself from time to time (even though he doesn't know what he is doing).

Zetterberg has defended himself, and even Datsyuk defends himself from time to time (even though he doesn't know what he is doing). Kronwall has been challenged before after big hits, and just skates away, Hudler always used to act tough, much like Sammy, and skated away. Homer dives all the time. Also, now Williams is part of the mold, and I remember him acting like a punk on numerous occasions. Lebda is another one. There's plenty of divers and timid players on this team which piss me off. I'm not saying that star players should fight, but if they're going to start acting tough, they may as well go through with it instead of turtling and backing down. I hate it when Wings players do that.
Guest Shoreline Report post Posted August 11, 2009 I'll take your Franzen and raise you a Lapointe. This happens so often I don't see how anyone can suggest most players don't do this. It's not quite as embellishing as soccer leagues, but s***, that is the MO for being an agitator by faking an injury.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted August 11, 2009 So far all that has been establishes is that goons or enforcers or whatever the heck you call these guys probably do not or definitely don't prevent the 1st cheapshot from happening. However, if they step in to fight take accountability or whatever you wanna call it, they may prevent future cheap shots from happening, but that is not a guarantee. That is all that has ever been established in here, and that's all that ever will be established in here. Nobody on either side will ever change each other's minds about this. Not in this thread/debate, not in the 1000th discussion on this whenever it may be. Some people will still think this team is soft for whatever reasons they have justified or not, others will think this team is fine/tough still. You know why? Because there have been so many fricken variations of the definiton of a goon, enforcer, bum, soft player, grinder, butt-kisser, hiney worshiper, snail smeller, you name it that have been established in here. Nobody's mind is going to change.

I have no time for drugs that aren't fun. Roids aren't fun. I don't have any hockey posters on display in my house. There was a time when I had a Wings room, but that was eons ago. I learned who Brock Lesnar was when you posted his name the other day. I have zero interest in any fighting sport other than boxing, and I'm not really into boxing. I couldn't name a current fighter but I enjoy watching a match or two a year. Usually on ESPN Classic. Tough hockey is making a comeback. It won't be long at all and even the Wings will have a dedicated toughguy (again)! If you think I'm wrong, bet me and meke some free money:) You get get a new control for that SNES. Even though I think fighting in hockey is dumb and spending money on a fighter even dumber, I still have to go with the odds.

Liek dude, while fights in the league have been going up, fighting for the Wings has been going the opposite way. I found that out by using this controller called a mouse, going over to your favorite hockeyfights.com and checking it out. Whoa man, liek, how does that work? Yeah man, the Wings look like they're so right on cue to sign a goon and be led to the promise land. Maybe this goon is Jesus H Lesnar, and you're one of his disciples. I bet no one else can see him but you. I bet it happens December 21st, 2012. Edited August 11, 2009 by Shoreline

eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted August 11, 2009 We use shoreline's room. It's in his parents' basement. It's cool, he has his own 13" TV and these rad Christmas lights he keeps up year round. He has a hotplate for when you're in the mood for canned soup but don't want to go all the way upstairs. It smells musty, but otherwise it's pretty nice. He has an awesome Queensryche poster. Sometimes we play Super Mario 2. Usually I just watch, the 2nd controller only works if you hold the cord just right, and even then it doesn't work that well. Sarcasm fail. Super Mario 2 was a 1 player game.

egroen 384 Report post Posted August 11, 2009 (edited) Sarcasm fail. Super Mario 2 was a 1 player game. That was awesome... Anyways, it absolutely annoys me there are so many Wings who back down after the whistle (though star players can back down as much as they want as far as I am concerned)... but the Wings are not "soft" during play, which to me, is integral. Franzen may be a cream puff after whistles, but during play he drives to the net, will steamroll over someone and hits with regularity.... so I can live with him only standing up to Patrick Kane after a whistle. Heck, if he was a fighter, the wings probably couldn't even afford him. Edited August 11, 2009 by egroen

I'd really like him if he quit with the flopping onto the ice and accepted himself for what he is, a skilled wuss. I can accept that. The diving is garbage. And no, it isn't okay when Lapointe dove either. I never liked Lapointe.
