Ricke71 5 Report post Posted August 23, 2009 (edited) Link to Swedish paper Google translation Lilja: "Feels like a bad hangover" Half a year ago threw Detroit's Andreas Lilja gloves in a fight with Nashville hill Shea Weber. He went so far beaten the doctors told him to stop playing hockey - now struggling 34-year-old to make a comeback. - Directly after the injury felt as if someone struck with a hammer in the head. Now it feels more like a bad hangover, "said Lily to Sydsvenskan. August 6, 2009 "I have a headache every day" Andreas Lilja has been fighting a ban of Detroit. Not so strange if you look at how badly things went last. Andreas injured himself so severely that he was half a year later still have a headache. - I can not play so physically yet, but I have had a few elbows to the head but I have had more headaches from it. Just after the accident, he was doubtful whether he could come back. The doctors said he should stop playing hockey. - Then it felt heavy. It was discovered that I have a lump of blood and brain tissue in the leak. They thought it was broken by the blast. Hope trouble-free years Later it turned out that lump was congenital and had nothing to do with the blast. Today is the Malmö brought up the hill back and train a bit easy on the ice with Rögle. But mainly it is cycling and strength training that apply. - It is very much ahead. The headaches decreasing every day. My goal is to be on Detroit's training camp which starts on 12 September. And he very much looking forward to making a comeback. Lilja's current contract with Detroit expires next year, after he is hoping for a couple of trouble-free years in the NHL. - I've had fights ban. I must keep away from fights. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 Why did it have to happen to Lilja of all the defenceman, he'd hit, fight and stick up for his teamates time after time and now he's damaged goods. A healthy Lilja-Ericsson combo would've been exactly what this team needed.

Yea... lets hope he ignores the obvious and continues to fight so he can REALLY end his career the right way. That would be so awesome. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 (edited) Exactly. Why couldn't this have happened to Uwe Krupp when he was here? We got even less use of that bum. Being a big Dman in Detroit, and subject to that awful curse, we're lucky we got three whole friggin' seasons out of Lilja before something random and stupid KO'd him. Bert might still have a punch or two in him. Homer can swear in 2 languages. Don't underestimate the power of Swedish. Cleary can stand up if the opponent isn't wearing press-on nails a la Pronger. Beyond that, it's every man for himself. I don't like it either, but what can you do?
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 There's still a chance Lilja will make the fall camp (crosses fingers & toes)...I agree; Lilja/Ericsson at the #5/#6 D pairing would be nice. And it would really help the PK. Lilja and Ericsson both provide big, shotblocking bodies that are invaluable for the pk.

egroen 384 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 Jiri Fischer was taken out for most of a season by Scott Hartnell -- Fischer took boxing lessons from Joey Kocur during his time away, and upon his return, squared off against Hartnell and KO'd him in one punch. Kocur needs to be retained, as far as I am concerned

RedAlert 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 It's really unfortunate to think that fight would be a career ender for Lilja. I would give anything to see him play with Ericson, I think they'd be fantastic together...
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 Later it turned out that lump was congenital and had nothing to do with the blast. If this is the case the fight may be a blessing in disguise. Guest micah Report post Posted August 24, 2009 (edited) Who will be our enforcer then? With Lilja out and Kopecky no longer being around to pick up the slack, we could be in trouble in the toughness department. At first it looks bad, our big guys are questionable Bert is 6/3, 231. His rep precludes him from really fighting much anymore - I mean, if he injured someone in a fight the press would be all over it. Lils is 6'3, 220. He can't fight anymore. Nothing to worry about though. Many forget that Johan Franzen is 6'3, 220lbs. He hides his strength by playing like Hudler. I think he's been saving it up, going unnoticed, waiting for this year to unleash his power. He's bigger and stronger than a young Bob Probert. Exact same size as Shanahan. With Downey and Kocur offering their training services to Wings, it's inconceivable to think that Franzen wouldn't take advantage of this opportunity to help his team and fill a void. I'm sure they've all been working together in secret. I expect Franzen to emerge this year as a Cam Neely type player. Okay, not as good as Cam, and not as valuable to his team as Cam, and not as likeable as Cam, and he won't score like Cam was at the same point in his career, but he could be just as tough. He does have an extra 50lbs to work with, afterall. I keep hearing from people on LGW that Fran isn't a ***** and isn't a coward. I bet this is the year that he proves y'all right. His heart don't pump no Kool Aid. He's been training, he's big and strong, and this'll be the year he unleashes the Franzen Fury. Look the f*** out, Jarome Iginla, there's a new power forward in town. Here are my predictions for this year, I have Franzen picking up 20 FMs this year.
