Buppy 1,720 Report post Posted September 25, 2009 ... no one else think that our biggest problem next year is depth in goal? I think the goalie situation is just so obvious that it's hardly worth discussing. Whether or not we're tough enough, gritty enough, skilled enough, or whatever at forward or defense is open to debate. Howard being a huge question mark isn't. Heavymentill 3 Report post Posted September 25, 2009 I would love to see the Wings pick up Tootoo. This is one tough dude, he gets in more fights in a week than all the Wings as a team did last season. Look up "Tootoo fights" on youtube, there is alot to watch. Talent doesn't do much for you if you get a cheap shot that knocks you out of the game. We need an enforcer!

Talent doesn't do much for you if you get a cheap shot that knocks you out of the game. We need an enforcer! well if he gets into a fight every week that means PIM city, why would you want that? Especially when our killing was where it was last year. Tootoo doesn't fit people! The wings are a two way player & hockey sense kind of team. They don't need a big lug out there throwing his body around and racking up minutes in the box while they're trying to maintain the flow of the game and maintain possesion. UGH! If it was Milan Lucic or a player that can enforce and make some passes at the same time then I would agree. But not Poopoo...plllllllease not Poopoo! puckbags 863 Report post Posted September 25, 2009 I agree with you 100% on me being an asshat for forgetting about Franzen. He's the best ***** player on the team in the playoffs, and I don't even pencil him into the starting line-up. Total Fail there. I was just starting to maybe think that you didnt like anyone whos jersey number started with a 9 !
Guest Shoreline Report post Posted September 25, 2009 First of all, with an even more prolific lineup than current one, the odds are still highly against the Wings making it to a 3rd straight finals. However, if there is any team that can, it's this one. Never count this team out.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted September 25, 2009 Yeah I do, I like all the moves we made this summer. With the likes of Abs, May, Newbury, Williams, etc in the minors just in case, I believe we're in good shape. A stronger year from Ozzie and having Lilja healthy for the playoffs and not alot of teams will be able to hang with the Wings.

Cern 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2009 It's dependant on how guys like Helm and Leino wind up performing, but as-is I'm not seeing a Cup win with the roster. But the trade deadline could certainly have a positive influence.
thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted September 25, 2009 Seems like I'm not alone in thinking that the Wings need a forward who can bang on the 2nd and 3rd lines. I'd like to see Tootoo aquired late in the season. Datsyuk - Helm - Bertuzzi Cleary - Zetterberg - Filppula Abdelkader - Draper - Tootoo Leino - Williams - Eaves Did you trade Franzen for Tootoo? 'Cause that's about as stupid as these lines to begin with.
Earthhuman 8 Report post Posted September 25, 2009 I don't have to quote the "Helm" lineup, because everybody else did, and even though it goes without saying... Why would you put a young guy who is an ideal 3rd-4th line player and gaining confidence every game on the first line where opponents and line-mates alike would outplay him and the fans would be calling for his head ten games in? Sure he's shown flashes of "it" offensively- all the more reason to keep him where he's safer and doing a damn good job for a young guy. And, maybe this is just semantics, but why oh why would you put Datsyuk on the wing with Helm in the middle? Datsyuk is one of the top five or ten centers in the game, and he is far and away better in his natural position than on the wing. Helm is one of the top 200 centers in the game, I think that means you can either, A) put him on the wing, or, B) let him center the 4th line, as he should. FedorovMan91 1 Report post Posted September 25, 2009 I am actually not worrying about our offenses. Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen, Cleary, Filppula, and Bertuzzi may be capable and there is Leino too. The thing I am worrying the most about the coming season for the Wings is their defenses. Last year, as Osgood played really god awful during the regular season, our defenses were also extremely poor. Luckily, our experience and some random factors put us in a comparative successful rank in the playoff. On the other hand, it is hard to expect that kind of cycle happens again this year. I do not expect Osgood plays like he did in 07-08 season but I also cannot think he plays horrible again two consecutive season. The one fact I think is, if the Wings are stack to win the cup, they have to fix their defensive problems. If the Wings' defenses play like last year in coming season, I do not see any chance the Wings can even go far in the playoff or gain a good position during the regular season. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted September 25, 2009 I am actually not worrying about our offenses. Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen, Cleary, Filppula, and Bertuzzi may be capable and there is Leino too. Pretty confident the Wings can still put together three solid scoring lines, which was a luxury I was mostly sure was gone after last season. But the emergence of Leino and value deals on respectable wingers like Williams and Bertuzzi has kept the three deep scoring lines dream alive.
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted September 25, 2009 Kronwall and Stuart were terrible most of last season. They can be physical, but not as consistently as I'd like to see. Ericsson is by far our most physical force, but if he's paired with Lebda, a lot of that could be negated. Don't worry. The way E's been playing-- no way he's on the 3rd pairing come April. Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted September 25, 2009 yup yup they can and I think the olympic break will help this team in a big way Call me crazy, but I seem to remember the Wings doing pretty well after some of the Olympic breaks...
Johnny Diamonds 25 Report post Posted September 25, 2009 They won in 08 with pretty much the same line-up. I don't see why not. Hopefully Dats stays healthy this time. That's what I'm saying. I think this team is just as talented as the 08' team. Not sure what all the fuss is about. Hossa was a 1 year luxury and he's gone now bfd. He was a bum in the playoffs anyways. GO WINGS!!!! DMAC 25 18 Report post Posted September 25, 2009 I don't think we can win with what we currently have. I think the Wings are missing one piece, and that's another forward who can bang. I'm not sold on Bertuzzi being that guy, so I'd like to see a midseason deal for the likes of a player like (it pains me to say this) Tootoo. Thoughts? i think they can win with the team they have. the big thing is gonna be if ozzy and howard can do good in goal, if not then deffintly not a cup ring this year

Hossa was a 1 year luxury and he's gone now bfd. He was a bum in the playoffs anyways. GO WINGS!!!! I agree, nobody thought we could win in 08 either. BUT, with finding out what Malhotra signed for in San Jose, I think (as I mentioned in the Malhotra thread) for the money spent, I believe our chances would be even greater if we had spent the roughly $4M on Bertuzzi, Moen & Malhotra as opposed to Bertuzzi, Williams & Eaves. The difference is $200,000, Holland spent $3.5M on the UFA's he singed, it would have been $3.7M opting for Moen & Malhotra...
