Not much of a Vancouver fan but gotta say I like this kid. He can really go. If you notice, he does most of his punching with his left and he also tries to use his left in a defensive posture, like a boxer, only player I have ever seen who regularly does this. Not sure it works all that well but hey, he's winning alot of fights. Consider also that he's not a big guy and he's fighting some big boys.

I just thought I would throw this out there for the fight fans.

Love this kid. This is the type of player I would love on the Wing's. A young, hard skater, and good fighter although the injuries worry me. Great technique you can definitely tell the boxing background.

His dad owns a boxing gymn.

Pound-for-pound I think he is the best fighter in the league... now if only he could stay healthy for a season.

Ah, that makes perfect sense. He uses his left to block when in tight and he seems to have a feel for when the other guy is going to throw so he throws up the block. He doesn't always block the punches but it looks fairly effective.

The most telling sign that he has some boxing background is he has a stiff left jab that is fast, accurate and simply puts the other guy off balance and in a bad spot real fast. Sort of a weird thing for a lefty to be jabbing with his left but he makes it work. Jab with left, move in for grab with right and start firing with the left again.

No matter, I like the kid. He skates very well, hits everything and can even fight some of the light heavyweights out there and do extremely well.

I'd love to have him.

Great find OP! I already love this guy, great fighter. I hope to see much more of him this year, he annihilated everyone he fought in those videos.

Rypien held his own against Gill who I would say would be considered a heavy weight when he's like 1/4 taller xD

Rypien didn't just hold his own, he won IMO. Not that most people on hockeyfights know what they're talking about, but they agree.

Im from BC and I get to see Rick a lot and he is an OK fighter at best and a HORRIBLE player... he reminds me of Jarko Ruutu...and Mike Brown...just terrible its sad that he is taking up a roster spot instead of Cody Hodgson

 A heavy?

Gill is a heavy punching bag if nothing else. Rypien is a lot better than him, especially when Gill isn't hugging.

Yeah Gill is a joke - I wouldn't call him a heavyweight, just a bigger target. Chara is best known for beating him up, but is a poor example since he is one of the few who is bigger - just shows that Gill has absolutely no idea what he's doing when he can't hold someone off with his reach. He also has terrible chin, just watch his fight with Kocur.
