FinRedWing 172 Report post Posted October 9, 2009 Ouch,4 months? That'll hurt us. Time for other guys to step up big time. Who takes his place, what will this do to our lines?
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted October 9, 2009 Well then. At least we have lots of cap room in case Kenny needs to make a deal. Huge blow nonetheless, at least this means we'll be seeing more of May. And Filpulla will be in the top 6 now.
j.hoop 64 Report post Posted October 9, 2009 wow, thats ugly. reformulation of the lines: commence
titanium2 867 Report post Posted October 9, 2009 When I first saw this I said to myself, "Whoa!... Ok then." The Wings will find a way. Johan Franzen was just a checking line player until Cleary got hurt. I have faith that they will find a way to get through this ok.

NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted October 9, 2009 Of the May/Maltby/Helm unit, none are really suited to top line play. I guess that one of the 3rd liners will be promoted to the top line, with either Eaves or Abdelkader taking their spot.
NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted October 9, 2009 Oh, and good thing we don't have an injury-prone guy locked up to a long term deal... Get well soon, we'll need you for the playoffs.
Statts 4 Report post Posted October 9, 2009 s***ty news On the bright side, the cap issue is solved.
Carman 387 Report post Posted October 9, 2009 (edited) Umm.... damn. That's a big shoe to fill. Now Babcock has to play Zetterberg with Datsyuk right? Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Homer(ugh) Bert-Flip-Leino Williams-Helm-Cleary eaves/Maltby-Draper-May ? Either way not good news this early in a season. NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted October 9, 2009 The Red Wings had the following lines in practice: Filppula-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Bertuzzi-Zetterberg-Cleary Leino-Helm-Williams May-Draper-Maltby (Eaves working in) Franzen (out)

ilmickeyli 40 Report post Posted October 9, 2009 s***ty news On the bright side, the cap issue is solved. Yeah, but we don't have anyone that talented to bring up... Franzen's production was needed severely to make up for Huds/Hossa I guess we'll just have to tighten up our d even more (sarcasm)
titanium2 867 Report post Posted October 9, 2009 wow, thats ugly. reformulation of the lines: commence Until Helm gets back Bertuzzi-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Leino-Zetterberg-Cleary May-Filppula-Williams Eaves-Draper-Maltby And then Filppula-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Bertuzzi-Zetterberg-Cleary Leino-Helm-Williams May-Draper-Maltby/Eaves
Johnny Diamonds 25 Report post Posted October 9, 2009 Ouch,4 months? That'll hurt us. Time for other guys to step up big time. Who takes his place, what will this do to our lines? Maybe Babs puts Z back on the line with Dats and moves FIlppula up to 2nd line, Helm 3rd line C and Abdelkader 4th line C. But this is a huuuuuuge blow. I think we can forget about winning the division though. Just compete all season for a playoff spot and hope Franzen is back in March fully healthy and ready to roll com playoff time. This really sucks though!
GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted October 9, 2009 Horrible news. The biggest knock on Franzen is his health, since there always seems to be something wrong with him. The guy is made of glass. It'll be tough winning the division even with him healthy, but now this makes matters worse. Only 3 games into the season, and we're picking up right where we left off in the playoffs with injuries. TheDetroitRedWings 286 Report post Posted October 9, 2009 Unbelievable... I'm trying to be optimistic here, but I can't help but feel depressed about this...4 months is a long time...
GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted October 9, 2009 I hate these kinds of situations. Ericsson looked terribly hurt last night, yet he's miraculously fine. No one saw Franzen get hurt, yet now he has to miss most of the season. I guess the Swedish Olympic team also takes a big hit now.
under_par_00 45 Report post Posted October 9, 2009 Thats not good. Torn ACL....it will take longer than 4 months for him to get back to 100%. He may not ever be the same.
