I think its kind of funny he left a detroit team with roster space available to sign with a team that is giving him the same ice time as he was getting.

Detroit has a lack of depth in the RW position already. He could of moved his way up the depth chart in the coming years .. hes not like a overnight sensation..

Tomas Kopecky, RW 14 1 1 2 -5 10 9:46 0 1 0 0 20 5.0

14 gp

1 G

1 A

Team leading -5 in plus/minus

9:46 of ice team. Wish I could work for 10 mins and get 1.2 million hah

I get the sense they are really scrambling to justify that contract.

Kopy has every bit of Homer's speed and defensive ability. Combined with Jiri Hudler's toughness and Aaron Downey's playmaking. He's like three players in one. Superstar.

I think Kopecky left Detroti for two reasons. First, his lover Hossa was leaving and second, because the Hawks offered him way more money then Detroit ever would have. I don't think he left the Wings to get more ice time.

That being said, I remember reading an article about the Wings sometime last season, or maybe even 2008, that was talking about how the Wings felt that they had a chance to groom Kopecky into Holmstrom heir. I think they realized his offence was limited but he had some size and agility and that they could mold him into a similar style player to that of Tomas Holmstrom. It's just funny that this was brought back up now.

Worst player to ever don the Winger Wheel save for Uwe Krupp, thank f*** that Holland finally opened his eyes and got rid of the clown.

what is about Ladislav Konh and Yuri Butsaev? Pretty good choices too :) However. what Krupp did was just spectacular...

Odd timing for this article on Kopecky. Yesterday a Blackhawk fan posted a thread about Kopecky. In another thread, they weret talking about how grossly overpaid he is. That Hawks brass screwed the pooch signing him. Personally, I'm glad we have Patrick Eaves instead of Kopecky. Eaves has been a BEAST for us!

Here's how Chicago Blackhawk fans feel about Kops:

Tomas Kopecky being the big guy he is seems to get pummeled out there. As soon as someone "scrums" with him he skates away like a bat out of hell. I recall this guy being somewhat physical in the past.

Chicago fans dont realize how terrible he is...they think that just because he was a Wing that he is an upgrade :P

This is soo sadly true.

I live in Chicago and go to the games occasionally and they all think Kopecky is another Hossa just because he came from the wings. BTW... the absolute dumbest fanbase in the world has to be Hawks fans.

dunno why everyone hates on Kopecky i mean he is a big body presence and power forward and he's good for about 30 goals, 60 points LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOOLOL

Switch his and Hossa's contracts and it is possible that he might get them all in that time frame.

I fear that Koko is going to blossom and make fools of us all.

 Classic.

But you forgot his unparalleled ability to fall down.

I hate to say it, but I think those numbers are slightly indicative of the fact that Kopecky's been snake bit of late. I watched him play last night in the Hawks' loss and he had a couple decent scoring chances including a Hossa-like wrist shot and he looked excellent in front of the net. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to be rid of the guy, but he had flashes of brilliance in a Wings uniform and definitely has the potential to develop into a 20 goal scorer.

Once in a while, the guy has hands:

I wonder what its like for Kopecky to have a best friend that is so much better at everything then him. I never understood the relationship between Hossa and Kopecky, they are 1 number off, they wear their socks the same, their jersey the same, their pants the same, they go to the same team, and you can tell Kopecky tries to play like Hossa, he just has no skill. Its all very strange.

So true, Kopecky is like a little brother that tries to do everything that his older brother does, but fails.
