VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 Lines have been shuffled, it doesn't work. This current crop is too reliant on role players and aren't using enough pure scoring and defensive talent. I don';t know what the hell is going on with Datsyuk and Z. The past few seasons the story has been how they are so much better than anyone else and they were getting better and better and more dominant....and now this. Even s***ty teams have dominant scorers. No excuse for Datsyuk and Zetterberg not to be scoring, even with crappy linemates. You can rearrange suck but it'll still suck. Hopefully our stars will remember who they are.
Cern 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 Worst second line ever EVER EVER Helm cant score, Bert cant score, Abs can score, but that line is horrid. Given that NOBODY on the team can score, having a line that can't score dosen't seem like much of an issue at this point
13dangledangle 968 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 Worst second line ever EVER EVER Helm cant score, Bert cant score, Abs can score, but that line is horrid. How long have we been without a goal with our current lines? Im not totally optimistic either but ? Lots of energy there and I think Bert CAN score and Abby can score as well. Helm gets there, does "D" and pots the odd one...Worth a try I say...or a line
Buppy 1,720 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 For the time being, I think the 'one big line' approach is the way to go... Pav - Hank - Cleary Draper - Helm - Eaves Bert - Leino - Homer Miller/May - Jabs - Maltby Lids - E Rafi - Janik Stu - Lebda/Meech I'd take it. 2nd Line probably won't score, but the defensive perspective (of that line) sounds decent... 55fan 5,133 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 The OP said to have fun with this, so that's what I'm doing here. This is a joke. It is not serious. Anyone who gets their panties in a bunch will have their eyeballs eaten by someone who considers that sort of thing to be fun, because, goshdarnit, the OP said to have fun. We need to be defensively responsible. Who's defensively responsible? Why, the Selke boys, of course. So our defensemen will be: Lids/Stu (Boy's playing his balls off- let's promote him) Hank/Dats (Eurotwin powers: Activate!) Drapes/Bert (He can't skate- just leave him back by the net. Maybe he'll lay down and block some shots. Drapes has the speed to cover for him.) Forwards: Leino/Helm/Cleary (Helm can just circle the net until the rest of the group catches up to put the puck in.) May/Abby/Ericsson (If we're not gonna win, we might as well let the young'uns be on the ice to take notes on fighting.) Homer/Helm/Maltby (Yeah, that's two lines for Helm, but he can be down the ice and back twice, stop in the upper bowl to sign autographs, and get a cherry slushie before the others complete the line change.) Miller/Eaves/Meech (Not really sure who is in which position there, but they're the 4th line, so who cares?)

Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 (edited) In light of my long anticipated and delayed (more on that later) return and the team's recent offensive struggles, I offer you these lines: Zetterberg - Draper - Miller : The 'EN[r]G' Line Helm - Datsyuk - Maltby : The 'How Do I Shot Puck' Line Homer - Cleary - May : The 'Waive-Off' Line Eaves - Leino - Bert : The 'Off the Post' Line And to work with our defensive troubles: Lidstrom - Stuart : The 'Mickey Redmond Ticky-Tacky Penalty Memorial Award' Pairing Rafalski - Ericsson : The '"It's not a giveaway, it's an assist!"' Pairing Lebda - Meech : The 'Out of Position in the Blink of an Eye' Pairing Edited November 28, 2009 by Datsyerberger

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 No matter how you slice it, there's going to be someone on the 2nd line that isn't very good offensively. What this team needs is for its superstars and its goalie to carry the team and steal games. That isn't currently happening. When you start relying on Abby or Helm to score, that means we're already screwed.

Chonmon 1 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 Good thread man. I don't understand why a gifted coach like Babcock cannot see that the wings are now, unfortunately, a one line team. It sucks, I know, I HATE one line teams. Especially the ones that make it into the 3rd round and dont deserve to be there, but it does happen. Babs is beating the crap out of a horse with 4 damaged legs, rather than accepting the fact that he has one strong stallion and averageness everywhere else. He continues to force that s***-terrible 1st line every game, and only recently has he been peppering in that Z, dats, cleary line when he should make it a main stay. That line is our stallion and the team needs to ride the crap out of it. Before any retorts, ya i'm aware of the dangers of having only one quality line. They're pretty obvious, but right now we have no quality lines. Put Z, dats, and cleary/holmstrom together!!! As for the rest of the line combinations, I really don't think it's worth it to discuss. almost 2/3rds of those players wouldn't even be on the team if it werent for injuries, (so we cannot expect much from them) so i say adjust them so they're sound defensively and order them to collapse constantly. It's glaringly obvious we cannot lean on them for goals, so force them to play hardcore defense.
