zettie85 106 Report post Posted January 9, 2010 Not sure if I agree with this. I know we need every point to keep in the hunt but we're going to burn the kid out. Away game, perfect time to let Ozzie have some time in goal. Not like we're going to win with either one of them ... I know pessimistic but realist. Ozzie will play against the Isle for sure. Doc Holliday 1,888 Report post Posted January 9, 2010 At this point in the season I would agree with you but don't you think that if Jimmy can get us there he deserves at least a sniff of playoff time. We pulled Hasek in game 3 and Ozzie shined and everything worked out OK. Why can't he get the chance if he gets us there? I think it's only fair. Hasek was pulled because of his performance in game four. He wasn't pulled in game three. If Osgood does what Hasek did then Howard will play.
Statts 4 Report post Posted January 9, 2010 http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=512925 Good article on Howard. I especially liked this part: Good read. I liked the part about him learning the mental aspect of the game from Ozzie and the rest of the vets on the team. J-Ho seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Pavel Hossyukstrom 2 Report post Posted January 9, 2010 If he keeps playing like this? Yes. If he dips? No. Don't forget that Rask is posting insane numbers. Howie would have to post these numbers but with significantly more wins. Yeah but Rask hasn't played enough. He only has 10 wins and Howard has 15. So why is he even in the conversation? Yeah sorry game 4. My point is Howard needs to get playoff experience eventually. Why not now? Like I said in a previous post, if he continues to play well all season long we need to take advantage of that. We do always have Ozzie but as much as everybody does love Ozzie he isn't a guaranteed game changer. He has played great the last two playoff years but does that mean he can do it again this year? If you have a veteran who has done it before and can play in that situation then you don't give it to the rookie just so he can get playoff time. He will get his if he continues to play well through the next few years so there is no need to rush him into anything. They didn't rush him into a steady NHL gig, did they? Miller Brew 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 Howard is starting to look like an awesome 64th overall pick. The only other goalie that went before Howard was Corey Crawford who was 52nd overall. Howard was Wings' first pick because they traded away the 1st rounder in 2003. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl2003e.html
TheOwl 77 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 Howard will win the Calder by a landslide if he keeps these kind of numbers up. He's been playing OUTSTANDING!

TheOwl 77 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 I hate those. You wonder about something and an obvious answer just completely slips by you. Yeah happens all the time, but still wikipedia is just a few clicks away. Before Mason, I bet no one would get Raycroft as a calder winner. Brodeur was next interestingly. On a side note, whenever I see that Barret Jackman won the calder over Zetterberg, I almost throw up a little. What a god damn travesty. They should actually consider revoking the trophy. Can they do that? Stats: Jackman, D- 3G 16A 19P Zetterberg, F- 22G 22A 44P Nash, F- 17G 22A 39P What a joke. I mean seriously. He sucks. He sucked then, and he sucks now. Zetterberg and Nash lead rookies in points and goals. Give it to Nash at least, that would've been better. But Jackman. Holy crap, what were they thinking!!!!! Guest zackmorris Report post Posted January 11, 2010 51 shots last night. Wow. They say Roy really developed by playing on minor league teams that left him hanging out to dry defensively. Maybe this is great training for Howard? Yeah....that never happened. Roy never played behind bad teams and never carried ANY of them. That myth needs to die. French Cdn goalies could punch puppies and kick nuns and be loved by all.
Guest zackmorris Report post Posted January 11, 2010 Oh and if Howard keeps at this pace, and Osgood keeps bombing every rare occasion we put him in there...it's not entirely insane to think he could be a Vezina candidate. I'm talking almost every start from here on out but that's not insane to think. The only thing that'd hurt his chances might be wins. His stats are spectacular otherwise. I just can't stomach another Vezina going to Brodeur.
