Yeah, he was on a great pace earlier in the season, but at his age, I don't think he's capable of fighting all the time.

If say Downey was here and playing every game because of the injuries to others, he'd have a lot more fights.

The opportunities for fights have certainly been there.

Ive noticed may hasnt fought in a while he needs to pick it up in that department thats why hes here

He needs to fight when he needs to fight. Other than that, we don't need to possibly give other teams power plays more than they earn. It all depends on the teams we are playing and the situations. A lot of teams sit their fighters against Detroit. Plus, May has had a couple of injuries, lately.

Newton's third law of motion.

Punching people in the face/helmet every game is going to take a toll on your hands.

If he was tough like people claim he would play through it, I think that there haven't been too many cheapshots on us, but he perhaps has not gone after guys a few times when he should have.

He is playing through it. But that doesn't mean he has to fight and bang his hands up some more.

letting his eye heal?

Nah, his eye is fine. Even if it was not healed, May has shown he wont let it stop him. Honestly, im not sure what it could be. He has been hitting everything that moves out on the ice.

I don't mind May not scrapping much lately - he had an eye injurry and afterthat he got whacked in the face with a goalie stick. I'm sure that he's still willing if the need arises, dude strikes me as being game as f***.

Just knowing that he's there and willing is enough for me. If the refs won't let him/there are no takers/it's not the right time/we can't afford another injury at the moment/whatever his reason, that's fine.

If s*** hits the fan, he won't fan on the s***.

Or something.

That sums up how I feel too. I like hockeyfights, but I like hockey without fights too. What I do not like is hockey players who are unwilling to risk their faces for the good of the team. Gameness is my favorite attribute in a hockey player. Not scoring or passing or fighting skill, the willingness to do anything in your power, even if it hurts, even if you run a slight risk of a broken orbital bone, to help the team. You ain't gotta be a good fighter but you should be willing to fight when the situation is right. Ditto for blocking shots. I can accept that players are not all equally skilled, but I do not accept that some players are more willing to accept pain for the team than others.

This is the part where I get accused of digging on Lids saying that he needs to fight Brashear and should have 250PIM this year. That isn't what I'm saying. What I am saying is that good men should not allow others to abuse them or their friends. some say the score at the end of the game is the most important thing, I disagree. How you play the game, your honesty (no diving!) and your dedication to your teamates (no letting the little guy get facewashed after the whistle) is more important than the outcome. I want wins, absolutely - but I want games won through something more than just the dicipline of not reacting when you're teammates get manhandled. Be a good teammate, be a good friend, stick up for eachother. It doesn't often result in injurry and it just might forge stronger bonds in the locker room.
