themule93 1 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 bertuzzi is on pace for 50 points and 24 goals, what are some of your thoughts
hooon 1,089 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 I know a lot of folks were quick to jump on Bert earlier this season, but I thought he has played well throughout the season. The difference is shots started going in, things started to click. I'm glad hes been scoring recently, but I expect some hot/cold streaks throughout the season. I was happy when we signed him cause we needed goals, he has been right about on schedule for my expectations.
miller76 463 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 I think Bertuzzi having success as of late is a little of a surprise. I didn't expect this type of play from him this season. Especially with the injuries and the play of other certain roster players this year. Bertuzzi has really helped the team get a few wins now. We can sit here and complain about the teams play. But I can't complain about him!
cjm502 165 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 Bert absolutely had to step it up and he knew that. He has turned in to more of a lazy player throughout the years, but look what happens when he steps it up. He is doing great for us right now.
Guest Lidstromboli Report post Posted December 22, 2009 seems like he and datsyuk have finally developed some chemistry and it's fun to watch hopefuly he can keep it up
thedatsyukian 7 Report post Posted December 22, 2009 You're setting yourself up for disaster. Bertuzzi is a streaky scorer and chances are he's going to go on another extended scoring drought again.
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted December 22, 2009 The team's crippled with injuries and Bertuzzi's stepped it up BIG TIME. He was signed as a complementary player and right now he's our go-to scorer. I'm sure Holland is pretty happy with this signing right now. And if/when he comes back down to Earth he's still only making 1.5 million, oh well, he's not being paid to be a superstar anyway, right?
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted December 22, 2009 He waxes and wanes. I'm just glad that he waxes when all the injuries happen, and wanes when there are 5 or less people out. Anyway, him and Dats are finally looking good together.
Marty Barry 230 Report post Posted December 22, 2009 Was happy when we first signed him, then let down. Same this time around because of the price, but now I'm getting a little giddy about it. He will make up for the money we spent on him the 1st time.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted December 22, 2009 I was expecting him to be in the range of 20 goals/50 points so he's definitely on pace for success. But his role has been expanded hugely from dude that can chip in to the Wings' #1 winger and he's risen to the occasion, for which he is deserving of praise. adubs 8 Report post Posted December 22, 2009 Did the same thing last year with the Flames. Who knows if he can keep it up as he has recurring injury problems.

You forget this board's ridiculous reaction to the 1.2 million, 40-45 point producing Samuelsson. Edited December 22, 2009 by Zetts
hooon 1,089 Report post Posted December 22, 2009 You're setting yourself up for disaster. Bertuzzi is a streaky scorer and chances are he's going to go on another extended scoring drought again. I'm not sure about 'disaster', but it's a valid point. The thing is though, his expectations were low coming into the season, then his role was increased due to injury, and soon it will decrease due to injured players returning. This will lead to more cold streaks and 'Bert is lazy and he sucks' threads, subsequently creating more threads like THIS one when he starts scoring again. The fact is, he stepped up when our team desperately needed people to step up. If he cools down when we have a healthier roster, meh, I remain unconcerned. Bert is a 20 goal scorer. If he gets more, that's great, and hes on pace. He has plenty of weaknesses, sure, but his upside is there, and like Drake said, at that price, he's almost already paid for himself.... I can think of three recent games off the top of my head where he had the game winner or shootout winner.

Lol this makes me smile. The last time I checked on Sammy's stats, it was about 5 games into the season and he was on pace for like 50 goals or something. RusDRW 155 Report post Posted December 22, 2009 with his good puckhandling skills he is perfect fit for the Red Wings. And I'm more than happy with Bert. However, even more importantly, that we finally got out first line set. There is no need to break this line when injured players will start returning. PS Hope Holland signs Bert for two more years, 1.5M per.
