2010 Winter Olympics - Canada vs United States (Group A)

First time I ever openly cheered in my house for a goal since Rafalski's goal in the 2008 finals.

Also Kesler is from Livonia, MI. That's about 5 minutes away from me. REPRESENT!

Truth. That goal was definitely inspiring, even if it was an empty netter. Him being from Livonia just makes it that much better.

Babcock is getting killed in the local bars here in Canada. I'm glad, always thought he was overrated and I'm so sick of that stupid look on his face,we get you're intense.

You mad.

Also: Kesler is a Buckeye? I take back what I said. He sucks and better not show his face in Michigan again.

Buck the f***eyes.

I think it's important to point out that this is the first year I can remember that the USA has had this much talent in Goal. We've had some good teams in the past, but suspect goaltending IMO.

Goaltending is a hugh factor in these tournaments. Look what the Swiss almost did with a bunch of grinders and Hiller.

So it's Thornton's fault they didn't score?

Ah, now I get it.

He's been completely invisible since he arrived in Vancouver. He didn't deserve to be on the ice. Marleau's been just as useless and Heatley's been passable. But there they were on the ice in the final minute.

I would've called a timeout and stalled as long as I could to get Crosby & Nash back on the ice.

Brodeur might as well have scored that second goal on himself, he was abysmal.

I'm thinking he won't be in net for their next game. And if Luongo had been there instead, I'm not at all sure we would have done as well. In a weird, VERY reaching way, it's a little like the '80's game between the USA and Russia. Their coach pulled the best goalie in the world (Tretiak?...whatever!) because he was pissed, mostly. I'm not sure if the USA would have won that one either with their good guy in.

Then again, I've always been good at postulating real good what-ifs.

For sure...I was sweating bullets for a large portion of the game. The big difference was that the Americans capitalized, and Ryan Miller is the most interesting man in the world. He let 3 goals in just to see what it would feel like.

Definitely let that third one in just to see if he was up to the task of not letting in the game-tying goal.

Agreed - however with NBC airing the game on 1 of their cable networks I question if any non-hockey fan knew the game was on.

My facebook feed has all sorts of people posting "USA! USA! USA!" and a lot of them arent hockey fans. So apparently people found their way to it. Maybe NBC alerted people that the game was on MSNBC during their broadcast? Doubtful.

Can't wait for the Canada/Russia QF in Wed. night, assuming the home team doesn't choke massively against Germany.

I doubt Canada will choke against Germany, I'm not even sure Germany has scored a goal since the Olympics started.

Definately has to suck going in as the favorite and as the home team....a lot to live up to.

What are those bar goers blaming Babcock for?

Constant line juggling, not calling a timeout late in the game to possibly get Crosby/Nash back out there after their incredible shift, not pulling Brodeur after a somewhat shaky third goal. If he starts Brodeur next game the fans are gonna hang him from the scoreboard.
