Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted July 19, 2011 It's to bad those morons can't realize the 3rd best big game goalie of the last 25 years is calling it a career. 1) Roy 2) Brodeur 3) Osgood Call me crazy, but I would put Brodeur and Osgood before Roy. Roy was not as talented as Osgood, nor did he win the big games as much. He was much bigger, and had a bigger profile in net. I am not going to hijack the thread, but I respect Osgood way more. We HAVE to be excited about that. Osgood, more than anyone, knows how to be mature and cool under the highest scrutiny, and knows how to tweak your game even to the point of reinvention. He will be excellent in said position. This. His physical skills were pretty average by NHL standards, but he had great success because he really has the perfect temperment for a professional goalie. His good head for the game and heart got him from average to 400. Physical skills were great beyond average, except for size. His glove was the best I have ever seen. If he had some of the gifts other goaltenders had in addition to what he had, he would have had a hundred more wins. This could turn out to be huge for McCollum this year. No doubt, I actually think that this might be the only way McCollum would possibly rebound is if he learns how to be a stone. As usual, you put the team before yourself and chose to end your HHOF career at a time that was not only appropriate for you, but most appropriate for the Detroit Red Wings. I'm not sure what the future holds for you, but know you are a Red Wing for life. I will make sure my kids know of the Great Wizard of Oz, how you could bring the Joe to a roar with every save, and how you knocked that POS Roy ON HIS ASS! Some times you take for granted these players and what they accomplish. He was a massive part of the success the Wings organization achieved over the last 20 odd years and he deserves far more credit than he'll probably ever get. This. We were in need of a young goalie at the time, and Chevy was for the most part on his way out as our Goaltender and Reindeau was a joke in the first place, so in comes this "baby face goalie" and 20+ years later Ozzie is hanging them up. As I sit here in my office typing this, I look around at all the Stanley Cup Championship newspapers and autographs that I have and none and I mean NONE of this would have been possible without this guy in net. Sure, Vernie won 1997, and Dom in 2002 but whenever the Wings needed a win, Ozzie always steped up to the plate. I gave this guy soooo much s*** throughout his career and he always made me eat crow. I sure hope that Ozzie realizes how much the fans of the Detroit RedWings love him and I will miss him not being in net, but I will never forget the memories this "baby faced" goalie gave me as a Wings fan. I am blessed to be able to see the talent go through the organization and experience some cup wins. I will always be an Osgood fan, and I hope to see him in the Hall of Fame in the future.
