RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted June 23, 2012 GIllis will be caught at the end of the night without a dancing partner. Word was he rejected Schenn for Lui straight up. Imagine if he had the foresight and took Schenn for Luongo, then flipped Schenn for JVR ... people here in Vancouver would be all over themselves. Burke 1 ... Gillis 0. Travis 576 Report post Posted June 23, 2012 JVR has had a seemingly rough time in Philadelphia, no? I mean, obviously, the kid is talented - but for him to come out and say he'd embrace a trade to CBJ.. That says a lot about the situation.

T-Ruff 47 Report post Posted June 24, 2012 I think it'll work out well for both teams. The Leafs put Schenn in the NHL too early and while he had a great rookie season he's been below average since but he still has the potential to be a solid stay at home #3 or #2 perhaps. JVR certainly has a higher ceiling but it's obvious his stock has fallen due to his injuries this year since it was only straight up. Lupul, Kessel, JVR, Mac/Kulemin, decent set of top 6 wingers now. If they get Luongo (just a matter of time IMO) they'll be in the playoffs.
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted June 24, 2012 JVR just signed a 6 year contract extension at the start of last season. What the hell is Philly doing? frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted June 24, 2012 I think this is a win win deal for both sides. cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted June 24, 2012 Team USA-North will see a lot more of their players on the Marlies; they could sign Bobby Orr and they would get more games than they will out of JvR.
Guest Hatethedrake! Report post Posted June 24, 2012 JVR had an excellent playoffs a year ago. Schenn has not really shown much and Wilson had him on the bench quite a bit. The Leafs win this trade big time. JVR has to prove he can stay healthy though. I don't know why Holmgren would make this trade really. I know Philly needs defense but he could have upgraded his blueline much better in giving up JVR, IMO.
Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted June 25, 2012 Agreed. There's still alot of time for Schenn to develope into the top pairing Dman he was projected to become (gotta remember that Toronto, and the media there has a history of running their Dman thru the ringer). A solid move for both teams; it was apparently gonna happen by the trade deadline, but JVR's health at the time was suspect - hence no deal then. Supposedly Toronto isn't done making moves. It'll be interesting to see what they do in free agency. They desperately need a goaltender, as well, hence the Luongo trade rumors.
