VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted November 1, 2013 All right, people. Let's keep this about Varlamov. If it's going to be about abuse in general thus thread will ave to be moved. Also, keep the discussion from getting personal. 1 jimmyemeryhunter reacted to this
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted November 1, 2013 I strongly second what VM1138 has posted. We've spent way too much time cleaning up the garbage in the this thread so it's on a very short leash. Any more off-topic, trolling or spamming posts and the thread gets locked and people get suspended.
amato 3,210 Report post Posted November 5, 2013 CBJ's Tyutin had some strong (and awful imo) comments on the situation.... “I personally know Semyon very well. He is quite a true, considerate guy. As soon as I heard it all, I realized that it is all blown [out of proportion]. “It’s just American laws are on the women’s side, that’s why they can go to the police for any little thing, complain and bring a lot of problems to men. “That’s why the only mistake of Semyon is that he got together with this girl.” http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2013/11/05/tyutin-varlamovs-only-mistake-is-that-he-got-together-with-this-girl/ 1 evilmrt reacted to this

First off he's biased. Varlamov is his friend, so he's obviously going to defend him. Second, he's foreign (I know he's spent a lot of time here), this isn't his home country or the laws he grew up with, so he may not appreciate or understand them like some of us do. That being said, he's not entirely wrong. The system has been abused by SOME women. No system is perfect. All-in-all, Tyutin took a pretty extreme stance and probably should have just kept his mouth shut. The courts will figure this out and we'll see if Varly is truly at fault in due time. Also, keep the discussion from getting personal. I see what you (unintentionally) did there... Such a shame this sort of thing happens because, regardless of the outcome, it sticks with players forever. Hope it's sorted speedily and justice, if necessary, is served. wings87 1,290 Report post Posted November 10, 2013 What's simply amazing is a lot of the Russian media and politicians saying that this was a setup and that the U.S. Is trying to keep Varlamov out of the Olympics.
sibiriak 84 Report post Posted November 10, 2013 What's simply amazing is a lot of the Russian media and politicians saying that this was a setup and that the U.S. Is trying to keep Varlamov out of the Olympics. If by "a lot" you mean one (1) idiot MP, and by "media" all the Russian papers that scoffed at him for saying that, then OK. One might gain prospective if one considers the idiotic/politically motivated things that regularly come out of the mouths of US members of Congress, before reacting to the same coming out of a foreign parliament member. It wasn't just one and when the main Russian news station keeps repeating it and doesn't discount the comment, it gives it credence wether it's one moron saying it or everyone. And dude I was born there so I have plenty of perspective about what the Russian government or the government controlled media say.

And as you might have guessed from my nick, I am also far from home. I agree they nobody should take Perviy kanal seriously and I also know that the common people and anyone with half a brain never believed the comments. But whether we like it or not Perviy kanal is kinda the face of Russian news around the world and it just bugs me that this garbage gets spewed out into the universe. As should you because it makes us look bad.

sibiriak 84 Report post Posted November 12, 2013 One is a result/bi-product of the other. I disagree. In Soviet times TV lied way more professionally and convincingly and as a result was taken seriously in more places than it is now. However, it still had no credibility over here. So one does not necessarily flow from the other. It does not make me look bad. Just like when Speaker Boehner says something stupid or hypocritical, it need not make all Ohioans look bad. Those guys in politics represent themselves first and foremost. So I feel no responsibility or their behavior.
wings87 1,290 Report post Posted November 12, 2013 One is a result/bi-product of the other. Yeah, but you can say that about anything. I'm still shocked that Don Cherry has any credibility left with anyone. 3 WingsAlways, Hey man nice shot! and puckloo39 reacted to this

If speaker Boehner or Obama come out saying that Russia passed the anti *** rights bill just so that US Olympians can't come to the Olympic Games I'd be all over that too. But no one in their right minds would say that and CNN would definitely not cover it like it was a plot. Political climate all over the world are different and politicians do cater to their constituents which in its own right is kinda sad. But if we wanted to discuss world politics I'm sure we would be in a different forum. With my first post I was simply pointing out the coverage this situation was getting in Russia. Whether politically motivated or not the comments got more attention than they deserved.

That's entirely what you base credibility on. 1 wings87 reacted to this
