Lol he added some bs, salt to the wounds, he himself knows he's saying bs.... And like other said the trades that happened today, WE COMPLETELY OVERPAID for an aging mediocre 2nd at best likely 3rd liner... Holland just patched up and gave away part of our future and blessed NashvilleWe overpaid in the sense of Jarnkrok, but if the rumours are true and Jarnkrok was threatening to head back to the SEL, than the move by Holland may actually make sense once the smoke settles. For the other part, we're all in pretty intense discussion, but we just don't like belittling the members on here, especially other teams visitors that come on here and are quite civil. He's not Centcougar.
I'm sorry if I offended him y saying what he was saying is bs....
Okay but I rather pay vanek 5-7 mill than pay leg wand 3.5-4.5 mill... Vanek isn't a center...
We have a lot of centers on our team the problem is most of them are hurt.... There were plugins within the team.... LIKE THE ONE WE TRADED FOR MINIMAL USE RENTAL

I've brought this up a couple of times in other threads and received no response throughout the season. The playoff streak clearly is NOT "meaningless" to the Wings' brass.

Sure, some fans (younger ones, I suspect, who don't remember the last time the team missed the post season) are willing to dismiss the streak's significance with a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately mindset. "Why only make the playoffs to lose in 4-6 games? A high draft pick is more valuable long term."

How terribly shortsighted.

In failing to make the playoffs, the Wings would reset 22 years of chasing a 29-year-old record. Prospects come and go. Making the playoffs for thirty straight years doesn't. Doing so would be more than once in a lifetime. It would be once in the history of hockey.

Does this mean that I like the Legwand trade? Not particularly. But the Wings were in desperate need of a center while trying desperately to make the playoffs for a consecutive 23rd year.

I, for one, am glad they're trying to keep the streak alive. Breaking the longest playoff streak in pro sports would be a huge feather in the Wings' collective cap, one that every fan should wear with enormous pride.

Go Wings!

I agree with all that in terms of evaluating Holland's "grade" for the trade deadline. A scoring line center suddenly became a desperately needed commodity on this team. This team doesn't make the playoffs unless they get hot, and there's no way that happens if you have 3rd and 4th line centers anchoring the top lines. Not that Legwand is the greatest either, but he could theoretically do what Weiss was supposed to be doing right now.

At the same time, it's a sad day to me. Calle Jarnkrok was pointed at as possibly our best prospect last year (before Mantha, etc.), and now he's gone. The fact that he would have possibly left for Sweden, in and of itself, would also have been a devastating revelation to me, so whether he blows up in the NHL or bolts, it's still a loss for the future.

I have spent the last 3 days out of town on business. Only had time to check his forum a coupe of times while gone. Made a post or 2. I raced home today hoping that Holland would have rolled the dice and made a hockey move. Now we knw a few things.

1. Holland said: " No rentals". He lied. Legwand is a rental.

2. Holland: "would like to make a hockey move". This is a bad hockey move.

3. Holland gets screwed in every trade he makes the last few years. A 3rd round pick by itself is enough for Legwand.

The point is Poile's hand was forced he absolutely had no leverage here and yet robs Holland enormously. Nothing against Legwand but he isn't what the team needs. This wasn't a hockeytrade it was robbery he can thank Snow and Murray for not having made the worst deal of the day.

Maybe Jarnkrok wanted to go home because he didn't feel like getting a chance if he gets a chance with the Press he might stay and then this trade will be worse than some of his other ones lately

This summer? Don't care too much about this coming draft. I'd rather give up a 2nd and give a damn about the playoffs.

My point is for that second plus we could have gotten more. We should have gotten more.

I'll be happy if we get whoever that centre is in the KHL my dad was telling me about and he flourishes under Dats next year. I'm gonna wait to see what happens in the offseason as well.

We had someone in our prospect pool that was gonna hopefully take over after pav and hank and we traded him for a 3rd liner .... If your saying we're gonna trade for the next future centers of our team then god help us , if he gave up janrkrok for legwand then I'd hate to see what he's gonna trade away

I'm not ecstatic either but let's not get carried away.

Legwand is a mid 30s 3rd liner ufa ....you trade jarnkrok type prospects in blockbuster deals not in legwand type deals .... Habs gave up less than us and got a 30+ goal guy

Like I said the Isles had a weak position to trade Vanek. No one would give up much for a guy that they knew 100% had to be traded. And we didn't need Vanek, we needed a center. Eaves has zero value, and if rumors of Jarnkrok's desires to go back to Sweden had reached other GMs he probably didn't have much value either.

The trade isn't as bad as it serms if you settle down a bit and look at it rationally.

I remember there was some hype about him, but I don't remember his name.

see this is you talking as a preds fan.... Sure send him (s***) to Detroit his best days are behind him. Idgaf that he waived his ntc, he's trash and shoulda stayed where he belongs cuz 100% he don't belong in a wing jersey... f*** Holland really blessed your team, why do u make it seem like this trade was even 60-40 fair???

If i was the preds gm i would have kept him in a preds jersey, but i'm not and he is now a detroit red wing

Well, not exactly.

Holland waited until the last minute to pull off a trade, so he got the Wings backed into a bit of a corner considering they have 4 injured centers. That is his own fault.

Also, I think Legwand is exactly what this team needs to get to the playoffs. Win the Cup? No. Is he what they need next season? Well, maybe if they trade Weiss, but not really. So you're right as far as the long-term view...but short-term, he is pretty useful.

True, refer to the list I posted earlier and you'll see I agree. But if the stuff regarding Jarnkrok is true than I'm less heartbroken by it. And if Legwand plays really good for us, then all the better for us.

I wonder if Vanek was traded last minute and Holland was too busy with Legwand at that time.

Has Holland given a statement yet?

The Isles had a very, very weak position. Everyone knew that not trading Vanek would be a disaster for them. That impacts prices.

I guess the big thing I'm getting at is the fact that we bowed out of the Vanek sweepstakes pretty early because whOaMG 2 much 4 a rental gtfo kthxbai! ...and then he goes for cheap. And you're saying everyone knew the Isles were going to be bent over and spanked and he would go for cheap. So, we bowed out early because the price was too high for a rental, but we knew the price wasn't going to be high because the Isles had a very, very weak position.

Surely I'm missing something here.

I like Legwand, have for years; but this trade stinks to high heaven. Like the player hate the trade especially after Holland sat on his hands for years.

Nothing would make me happier than calle jarnkrok to be a star in Nashville with Seth jones for many years to come.... Give holland nightmares for many years

I know we needed a center ... Fact is habs got a lot more for what the gave up than we did

And if janrkrok wanted to leave if he didn't get to stay in the nhl then what harm would it make it janrkrok played with us final 20 games and see if he can play? At this point with all the injuries legwand isn't gonna be the difference in us getting in I'm sorry

Nashville is gonna call up janrkrok to play the remainder of the year and promise him a job next year I'm sure of it ... We should of given him a chance , not saying to let just any prospect determine what we do but at this point with where the team is at and jarnkrok's ranking in our prospect pool he should of been called up

Okay but I rather pay vanek 5-7 mill than pay leg wand 3.5-4.5 mill...

Doesn't help us at the center position.

Legwand isn't just a normal trade deadline rental, he's waived his NTC to come here, he's from the area, he doesn't have a history of jumping teams and he's very likely to seek out a deal with the Red Wings. Legwand is a very solid pick up, good for at least .50 ppg(.65ppg this year), He's a stanley cup caliber 3rd line center that can effect every facet of the game well, he's good killing penalties(hasn't done much of that this season with the acquisition of Gaustad), powerplay, and even strength.

Losing Jarnkrok hurts, but i don't think it's as egregious of a move as others are thinking. Our prospect pool is still strong, and we needed to make moves that make us better the next couple years with Z/Datsyuk getting older, I'm pretty confident in saying Jarnkrok would not help the team as much as Legwand would the next few years.

They should convince radulov to come here to play with datsyuk they played good together at the olympics

They did. Vanek is going to command a hell of a lot more money though after this season. I dont think the Wings wanted any part of that.

But...it's Thomas Vanek. And Legwand is a rental.

Like, I get that we needed a good veteran center. But, well, I guess I'm trying to wrap my head around is the idea that we might've been able to add Vanek AND Legwand without surrendering a single Untouchable Roster Player.
