number9 3,297 Report post Posted March 19, 2014 Possibly. I might be one of them ha, but I wouldn't stop my criticism of the aspects of his game that need critiquing. I did try to make it as clear as I possibly could when I bumped the Howard thread that it wasn't because of a single game or instance or even a small sample of games. I was only looking at his rankings compared to everyone else for the whole season (and in March you should have a pretty good sample size to go off of!) If he plays well then I'll give him credit, if not then I'll criticize him. If he improves his game after being criticized, it doesn't mean that the criticism was undeserved at the time it was given. And of course vice versa If his play degrades after giving him props for playing well, it doesn't mean that he didn't deserve the praise at the time. Criticism is criticism, and can be deserved. It's those who call for a replacement after a bad streak that are overly negative. He's a starter, not elite, he's going to have his ups and downs. With a good team plenty of starters win cups. VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted March 19, 2014 We've got to make playoffs. We may finally get to see a fairly healthy roster if we do. God that'd be exciting. Beat Pittsburgh and Toronto and we'll be competitive again. 1 Yak19 reacted to this
Yak19 303 Report post Posted March 19, 2014 Find ways to win, every point is huge right now and that is the kind of game that could fire up a win streak. Nyquist quickly becoming a leader with Datsyuk and Zetterberg out.

He's a starter, not elite, he's going to have his ups and downs. With a good team plenty of starters win cups. I agree. I wouldn't call for his job after a bad streak, just that he improve. Now if these bad streaks happen more frequently or last longer than whatever length is deemed acceptable, then I would start worrying about finding someone else. But again that works both ways. If he goes on a streak of playing well and winning games I wouldn't say that justifies his contract or future starter status until the bad streaks are less frequent and/or less disastrous. And none of that will improve my opinion of things like his puck handling and rebound control until those specific area's are actually improved. Just because he can stop the puck for us doesn't mean he can handle it any better once he has it!
Datsyukian-Deke 722 Report post Posted March 19, 2014 It wouldn't be fun to make the playoffs unless we can do it with 13 starters injured. They are just rollin up the bet.

Nyquist quickly becoming a leader with Datsyuk and Zetterberg out. 100% agree. Very easy to see that the captain has rubbed off on him in a huge way. He is like a mini Z out there. I think one part of his game that goes unnoticed is how rarely he takes penalties. Kid only has 8 penalty minutes in 43 games. What is it now like 25 points in 20 games? The kid is doing everything he can to carry this team down the stretch. 2 roboturner and Yak19 reacted to this

With how good he's been and everything you just mentioned, I just can't believe the Wings brass tried to stuff this kid in the minors for another year (which is probably where he would still be if it hadn't been for these ridiculous injuries). I understand the mindset of keeping prospects in the minors to an extent, but this might be taking it to the extreme and beginning to be more of a hindrance to the organization rather than a strong point. Then again, maybe that's why he's been so good up here...

Dabura 12,207 Report post Posted March 19, 2014 I don't know if it's all on bad coaching or all on the players or somewhere in between or something else entirely...but we are absolutely horrific at dealing with teams when they hit another gear and ratchet up the compete and press, press, press. It's like we get scared and confused and panicky and we just collapse because OMG WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO BE DOING I FORGOT WHO I'M SUPPOSED TO BE COVERING I'D BETTER JUST STAND IN FRONT OF JIMMY. 1 Hockeymom1960 reacted to this

frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted March 19, 2014 Nice to see a win but boy this team needs to do a better job in the third. With E now being out our top 3 becomes a top 2 Kronwall + Dekeyser ...I feel sorry for Danny his first full rookie season and the guy will have to do some top pairing duties, what a tough task.
