frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted October 2, 2014 I think people will realize, how good Babcock was when he signs with team Crosby. The writing is on the wall Malkin and Crosby are already praising the guy and contract holdout. Usually a negotiation with the best coach should be really easy... Here is a blank check fill in everything else. You don't think people already realize how good Babcock "was"? Nope

No one thinks Babs isn't a great coach, he just has to move on unfortunately
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted October 2, 2014 I don't think he does. There is so much turnover in the roster going on that he's basically getting a whole new set of players to coach. He may have been here for ten years, but most of his team will only be with him two or three years. You had to jump when you had the same roster for 10 years but already we're seeing a changeover, and I expect some retirements and trades to make the roster that much different the next year or two. 3 Internet.Unknown, Bully76 and krsmith17 reacted to this

No one thinks Babs isn't a great coach, he just has to move on unfortunately If he does I can fully understand it and will not hold against Babcock. Like I've said many times his job is getting harder each year and he doesn't get much needed help in terms of a better roster from his GM. Babcock is as competitive as they come and the guy wants to coach a stanley cup contender. There must be an obvious reason, why Holland hasn't allowed other teams to talk to Blashill. A lot of people have been saying we are in some sort of re-tooling if Babcock moves on and Blashill becomes the next coach I personally believe the re-tool turned into a re-build << build a new team around Goose, Tatar and Danny. Yea and do what with Mantha, Jurco, Ouelett, Sproul, Jensen, Janmark, Pulk, Backman? They aren't a foundation to build around?

vladdy16 2,154 Report post Posted October 4, 2014 In an interview during intermission tonight Babcock was asked about not having a contract. The highlights are: He's talked to Scotty, who replied that he was in the final year of his contract every year and he loved it. Babs is excited about the younger look of the team. It was painful for him to watch us last year because we were so slow. His youngest is out of school, so he's in a good position. The Wings have been very good to him and treated him very well. There is nowhere else he wants to be. 1 krsmith17 reacted to this

PavelValerievichDatsyuk 1,935 Report post Posted October 4, 2014 If Babcock does leave, I want him to go to Edmonton. See if a great coach could turn them around. If he did turn them around it would be his key to a Jack Adams award.
number9 3,297 Report post Posted October 4, 2014 Until he signs I think this is all bs he's saying so the media lightens up ... I personally think this is his last year in detroit From what I've seen Babcock has never been the kind of guy to throw up media smoke screens. He means what he says. If he says he thinks he'll stay in Detroit, I tend to believe that's the most likely outcome. Ppl who think Babs is leaving I tend to group with the same ppl who thought fersure Dats was leaving. It's all doom and gloom till he stays, then those ppl who were 'so sure' he would leave disappear into the woodwork. Not saying that's you, but that's the tendency I see anyway. 2 krsmith17 and kliq reacted to this

Along with telling media he'd be back Babcock also said something about if it's his last year in detroit so be it (don't remember the exact words) Again time will tell , I do think if he we continue to struggle with scoring goals and struggle all year it might just guarantee he walks
frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted October 9, 2014 Well the clock is ticking, if he isn't signed today I would assume the best coach in all of hockey is gone at the end of the season. And Mr. Kicking the tires will remain for another 3 years...
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted October 10, 2014 I wouldn't assume that. It's pretty clear he wants to be in control of his career, like Bowman was. He'll want to take it year by year and see how the franchise is developing. If we have a good year (improvement over last year) and change to a more exciting youthful style of play I think he'll stay. They're not going to negotiate during the season, so the fact that he hasn't re-signed means little to me. 1 krsmith17 reacted to this
derblaueClaus 1,668 Report post Posted October 10, 2014 I don't belive that a coach leaves a team by choice that is clearly on the rise. Working with those young players, forming their careers and reform a team around them must be one of the most exciting tasks for a coach. Even though there are some signs that make me question that ( like the relatively open critiuqe of moving XO to GR) in the end I think that we will see Babcock behind the Bench the next few years. kliq 3,755 Report post Posted October 10, 2014 I find it hilarious when people say that Babcock is going to leave Detroit due to being frustrated with the team Holland is putting together to go to Toronto. If I were Babcock, I would be excited with all the young guys up/about to come up. I know people get frustrated with Quincey and Cleary, but those guys will not be here in 2 years, the kids are taking over. Holland just wants to slowly integrate them into the lineup opposed to just shoving them all in at ala Edmonton. A guy like Quincey is just a holdover until a guy like Sproul is ready. Having too many kids at once can be a bad thing, you need vets, its getting that balance. 1 krsmith17 reacted to this
