kickazz 5,459 Report post Posted November 7, 2015 Everything under 5 is fine with me the guy has improved tremendously, is one of the way too few physical players on this team who also isn't shy of dropping the mits. In terms of Danny D I think he will look for a Pietrangelo (obviously less aav) type of deal. Maybe something like ~ 6.5 x 7 $20 says he won't make anything more than 4.75 mill max. Jesusberg 1,256 Report post Posted November 7, 2015 Anything in the 4-4.5M range is perfect, IMO. Fair for him and works for the team. Like others have said, he does a little bit of everything. We don't really have anyone else like him right now.I'm iffy on the term, though. Given his style of play, I'm concerned about the wear and tear catching up with him. Four years is fine, but getting into that five/six years makes me a little nervous.
MrazekFanBoy 223 Report post Posted November 7, 2015 Nyquist signed his deal as an RFA. Those deals are on a different scale than UFA deals. You can't really compare in my opinion. Contracts will always go up, but revenue is going up as well so players salaries should go up or else the owners would be keeping a larger percent. We're also losing Richard's 4 million cap hit, Quincey's 4.25 caphit, and possibly Franzen's 3.955 caphit if he stays on LTIR and doesn't return. That, with the rising cap would surely make enough room for Mrazek, Abby and DK. I doubt Mrazek makes 4+, I'm guessing Helm at 2.75 and we're all fine. DK is still an RFA at the end of the year. He won't get his big 6+ payday until he's an UFA. when he gets his real deal it will be at least 7 milOh im talking about Mrazek lol DK will get at least 5 mil he's the best defender on the team. Abby shouldn't get more than 4 mil he's been with Z or Pav for the last few years, even Helm can produce playing with them
LeftWinger 4,964 Report post Posted November 7, 2015 Well, Helm would get a lot of shots on goal with Z and Dats, he still wouldn't score... IMO, Abby should get $3.5M, Danny D should get $4.5M...BUT, market dictates it differently...the ONLY thing we have going for us is they truly ARE hometown kids that just might take a smidge less here in Detroit. Besides, I don't think they'd even think about playing anywhere else... Just as long as they aren't offended by any lower offer. The opening line in that convo should be, "What is your bottom line?" Bill Berzeench 310 Report post Posted November 7, 2015 People forget that Helm has another gear he elevates to in the playoffs. His injuries have soured everyone, but I want to see him get through this season healthy and see if he steps up in the post season. He can be a stud when it counts. LeftWinger 4,964 Report post Posted November 7, 2015 Ya, Helm has another gear in the playoffs just like Franzen does. I think we're tired of waiting for player X to shift into his playoff mode, when after awhile it just does not exist anymore.

I think we're tired of waiting for player X to shift into his playoff mode, when after awhile it just does not exist anymore. I know man. I remember back when Helm had that youthful jump and now he's over-the-hill at....wait...28. Yeah, he's fine and he had that jump last year. He hasn't lost a step or whatever you're suggesting. He hasn't been so hot this year, but I think that's due to missing camp and preseason with the concussion/shoulder and rehabbing. I think he'll get it going soon. I know Helm's one of the player that you have a staunch dislike for, though, so I know I won't be able to convince you otherwise.

kickazz 5,459 Report post Posted November 8, 2015 (edited) Helm is expendable. We have fast young guys coming up who can actually score without needing the help of Datsyuk. Edited November 8, 2015 by kickazz

Or keep? We have to say goodbye to some guys possibly within the next year.. Edited November 8, 2015 by kickazz
joesuffP 1,746 Report post Posted November 8, 2015 (edited) I'd keep Helm or else we are seriously missing grit with our forward group... We need a Blake Wheeler, Rick Nash type if we are ever going to take that next step to being a true contender Edited November 8, 2015 by joesuffP
PavelValerievichDatsyuk 1,935 Report post Posted November 8, 2015 So what's your opinion? Expendable? Or keep? We have to say goodbye to some guys possibly within the next year.. Definitely keep. He's good dependable secondary scoring and an energy guy that supplies some drive. I also think we're going to get a couple better statistical years from him in the next few years as he settles into these prime years. Next year, Richards, Andersson, and Miller gone upfront I think. I think they'll keep Ferraro because he's a RFA, though I wish they wouldn't. Franzen might stay on LTIR. There's enough room even Mantha or AA make it next year. Also, in about 3 years we could be without Franzen, Dats, Green maybe Kronwall - we'd be short on vets (Z, abby, E?, Howie?).

We need a Blake Wheeler, Rick Nash type if we are ever going to take that next step to being a true contender As much as I love Helm, all signs point towards letting him walk. Pre cap era, I would say resign him, post cap is a different story. He is close to 30 with an injury history, he will likely get more then the 2.1 mil cap hit that he has right now, we have a ton of young forwards ready to come up/re-sign, and we currently are playing him on the 4th line. You just don't pay a 4th liner close to 3 million/year anymore. Now, if he is willing to sign say a 3 year, 6 million deal I would do it, but I dont see that happening. frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted November 11, 2015 Helmer is a hard working gritty guy something the Wings don't have enough of and people would let him walk ? I'd rather bring in more players of that breed by trading guys like Pulkinnen, Jurco.

The guy has games where he's the best player on the ice still. He will be invaluable to this team once we get the top 6 more balanced, depth guys like that in the bottom 6 are crucial in the playoffs Edited November 11, 2015 by joesuffP 2 frankgrimes and PavelValerievichDatsyuk reacted to this
frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted November 11, 2015 agreed and he won't cost much either something like 3,4 aav for 4 years should do the trick
kliq 3,755 Report post Posted November 12, 2015 agreed and he won't cost much either something like 3,4 aav for 4 years should do the trick I'm not going to say you dont make a good point Frank...you do. Like I said, I like Helm as much as anyone, but its a big contract for a guy playing on the 4th line who does have some red flags. Gritty players have a tendency of declining in their 30's. It wasn't that long ago that Cleary was everybody's darling. If he signs for 2mil/year, I would do it in a heart beat. 4 mil for 4 years, that worries me and seems like bad cap management. 1 krsmith17 reacted to this
kickazz 5,459 Report post Posted November 12, 2015 I'd take Helm if it's cheap. But seriously, don't you guys feel like we have guys coming up that can easily replace him? I feel like AA is Helm but bigger?

joesuffP 1,746 Report post Posted November 12, 2015 (edited) I would be okay with 4.25M but getting close to 5M for 7 years is pretty close to being a bad deal imo.
