I haven't seen near enough of this kid to comment.   So here's my comment.   (insert laugh track here)   If I'm the Jets would I settle for Mazur and Wallinder in return?   If I'm Detroit would I pay that, when Mazur is exactly what we want in McGroarty?

I believe Fowler will be a Detroit Red Wing this season....and soon. Remember when Debrincat and Kane were just rumors and most analysts had Detroit as the frontrunner? Get ready for another homecoming. Trouba may still be in the mix come TDL as well.

To ANA: Veleno + Maata + Talbot + Holl + 1st + 2nd

To DET: Fowler + Gibson

Maata and Talbot would replace Fowler and Gibson for the Duckies. Holl is a cap dump to make the deal work. Veleno and our 1st + 2nd is the positive compensation to them for the upgrade.

Anaheim isn't looking for cap relief, they are looking for roster relief to upgrade younger players. I am pretty sure in order to get that relief, Anaheim would have no issues retaining salary. As a matter of fact, only being $2M above the cap floor, they'd have to retain in order to stay compliant. Fowler at $3.25M (50%) is not an overpayment at all.

Gibson is on IR at the moment. The article says it may take Viro and a 2nd to obtain Fowler. That's a deal I'd do all day long! But there would definitely have to be some salary moved out in order to fit (even at 50%) Fowler on the team. Maybe Holl is involved and just gets waived by Anaheim as well? IF there is another player coming back with Fowler, I can see it being Vatrano. Again, Anaheim has plenty of room to retain up to 50% to make this deal happen for Detroit, then you might see either a kid forward going back (Soderblom?) or maybe Veleno if they want an NHL player.

Yes, it is. We traded a more or less similar player (Walman) along with a higher end prospect (Andrew Gibson) to free up that roster spot. Now you wanna trade something else (cap dump plus picks or prospects) to acquire Fowler. I don't care about his salary. I care about what it costs to get him. And that's a VERY steep price to pay for something that was already on your team when you had Walman.

In short, it's not a smart idea. Acquiring Fowler (even at 50% retained) still costs this organization quite a lot more than Chris Illitch's money, and that makes is a bad idea.

Nothing wrong with letting OUR draft picks play.  There is ZERO wrong with getting rid of SHET TRASH old defensemen and letting our good, young, 1st round and 2nd round draft picks play.  We don't need to bring in more trash to add to the current trash.

I don't agree. Walman and Fowler play a totally different game. Walman is a positional shot blocking Dman that kills penalties, and doesn't offer much in the Ozone besides a really hard shot. Fowler is a puck distrubting PP QB that isn't expected to kill penalties. Their games are totally opposite. 

It's also pretty clear based on the rumors and comments that Walman was cast out due to lockerroom issues. With that context, acquiring another Dman isn't so absurd. However Ducks would have to take someone like Maata back in a deal IMO. 

We also got Kiiskanen back in the Gibson trade. While not as valuable as Gibson, he's still an exciting prospect, and that deal wasn't fruitless.

I'd be fine trading for Fowler... but I'd prefer to see how this defense plays first before we start tinkering.

An article about Walman's "fresh start" with the Sharks is out there. Sorry I forgot to grab the link.

In the interview Walman mentions having "an injury fans can't see" last year. And that he "struggled to get out of bed" at points in the season.

IMO he's pretty heavily alluding to having some sort of depression symptoms. 

Couple that with Larkin's comments about the guys who were not focused on winning being gone now, and it's pretty obvious he was having issues in his personal life that were coming to work with him. 

Sucks for him, but we need mentally strong players. Sort that s*** out in SJ brotha.

Interesting.  I read that article and interpreted it a bit differently.  I read it like his injuries were real injuries, but they were the kind you just had to suck up and play through without telling anybody about it.  Like a tier 1 sprain in your shoulder or something like that.

Grade 1—Involves stretching/spraining of the joint covering (capsule), with no damage to ligaments connecting the shoulder blade (scapula) and collar bone (clavicle). There may be swelling over the joint but the bump is not permanent. Pain typically lasts for 2-4 weeks, but can be easily reaggravated.

I felt like Larkin was alluding to Walman missing team activities (weight lifting/training/skating/etc) when he should have put on his big boy pants and joined the team.  

But either way, I agree with you.  Go straighten your excuses out in San Jose.  We got prospects that need the minutes.
