We'll see how he does the entire season in GR.   I have my fingers crossed, but really don't expect he pans out.   Who knows?

Theres a side of me that thinks this is the guy we want to develop the slow and steady way, aka over ripen.  He's raw as all get out, but a) he's willing to put in the time, and b) he has what you cant teach - 6'6".  He's 22, so if he spends 2 years filling out in GR, no biggie.  And this is the type of guy that the NA rink HELPS.  Tuomisto is my favorite prospect besides Ammo.

So our prospect pool is pretty deep:

1st round picks in green
2nd in blue
3rd in orange
Everything else red

Lombardi and Soderblom are SY's big steals so far, both being red.

LW ------------------------------ C --------------------------------- RW
James (40) -------------------- Kasper (8) --------------------- Mazur (70)
Buchnelikov (52) ------------- Danielson (9) ----------------- Stange (97)
Hanas (55) -------------------- Niederbach (51) -------------- O'Reilly (98)
Bicker (147) ------------------- N. Dower-Nilsson (73) ------- Draper (187)
Soderblom (159) ------------- Phillips (97)
Mehlenbacher (201) --------- Lombardi (113)
Finnie (201) ------------------- Savage (114)
Bradley (203) ------------------ Kilpinen (129)
------------------------------------ L. Dower-Nilsson (134)
------------------------------------ Ali (212)
------------------------------------ Doucet (undrafted)

LD ------------------------------ RD
Edvinsson (6) ---------------- Sandin-Pellika (17)
Wallinder (32) ---------------- Tuomisto (35)
McIsaac (36) ----------------- Gibson (42)
Buium (36) -------------------- Anton Johansson (105)
Cleveland (47) --------------- Phelan (137)
Albert Johansson (60)
Viro (70)
Keenan (117)
Moorre (128)
Mathurin (137)
Aucoin (156

G
Cossa (15)
Augustine (41)
Bednar (107)
Guimond (169)
Gylander (191)

I think it's also important to consider our current 26 and under on the main roster too:

Berggren - Larkin - Raymond
Kostin - Rasmussen - Debrincat
------------- Veleno - Sprong
-------------------------- Fischer

------------------ Seider
------------------ Lindstrom

Easy to see why SY loaded up on young RWs considering he hasn't found many in the draft. Granted Berggren and Soderblom can play RW.

Been doing as deep a dive as I can on Nate Danielson the last few nights and I'm SO pumped about this guy. I think he's going to be an absolute stud. There's nothing that this guy doesn't do well. His skating, stick handling, and shot are all noticeable. His playmaking is good, maybe not elite, but it's hard to say if that's because his wingers completely suck. When he fills out he's going to be a horse. I think the range of outcomes for him is somewhere between Jordan Staal (on the low end) and Alexsander Barkov on the high end.

If he ends up Barkov caliber, I'd certainly be less concerned about Larkin being in his 30s by the time the team contends.

My concern was always what happens to this team once Larkin reaches regression age. I have no concerns about him for the duration of his contract. It's the years beyond that specifically. If we can get legit top 6 centers out of Danielson and Kasper, all is well.

Wheeler just did his top 50 drafted NHL prospects (under 23 and not yet graduated to playing good chunks of NHL games).

The Wings had 3 guys on the list.

11 Edvinson

31 Kasper

42 ASP

No Danielson lol

Athletic is a joke. Don't think Seider made their list his draft year either.

Wheeler has been low on him all year. His stupidity is well documented. He had Andrew Cristall in his top 15. He has a clear bias toward small wingers with tons of flash. I guarantee Danielson outperforms quite a few guys Wheeler was really high on (Perreault, Benson, Cristall, Sale, Yager).

TL;DR: Scott Wheeler is a total hack.

Basically just like Kasper. Marco and Nate both 6'2"+ and well-rounded versatile centers.

We're gonna regret paying Larkin 8.7 to work the 3rd line in a few years.

I genuinely think N8 will have better offense than Kasper. And I love Kasper. You do a search on his name in the LGW archives and you’ll see I was the first guy to pump his tires. But as much as I love him I think N8 scores more. His shot and handles are better and he’s just as good in transition. They’re both going to be insanely useful when we win a Cup (which I’m fully expecting now that our cupboards are full with absolute  studs) but I think Danielson will be the offensive guy and Kasper will be the matchup guy.

Kasper is more of the fearless gritty powerforward type

Danielson is faster and more skilled

Totally agree. I see Kasper as a Ryan Kesler type of center. Matchup guy that scores 50-70 pts. I think Danielson will in the 80-90 point range while still playing good defense (more like Larkin).

More on goalies: https://detroithockeynow.com/2023/07/18/tomorrows-red-wings-nhl-draft-pick-goalie-rudy-guimond-long-term-investment/

Our 6th round pick this year, goalie Rudy Guimond

We took him straight out of high school, he's going to the USHL this coming year, then he's committed to Yale University after that. So we may not even get a glimpse of this kid for 5 years. But he's 6'3" and apparently very athletic.

SY is really going above and beyond to shore up the G position if he's even scouting high schools for them now.

Article also says the Wings like G prospect Carter Gylander, who I think can play one more season at Colgate this coming year.

So it looks like our goalie depth for the year is:

Wings:
Husso
Reimer

Griffs:
Lyon
Lethemon

Walleye:
Cossa
Bednar

With Gylander, Augustine, and Guimond waiting in the wings.

I really think Lyon will end up being Husso's backup as soon as this year, and play that role in 2024/25 as well. It's also going to be a dogfight between Lethemon and Cossa for the GR backup spot. It could very well be Reimer/Cossa or Lyon/Cossa in GR, and Lethemon/Bednar in Toledo.

Once Reimer is gone after this coming year, I think it will go:

Wings:
Husso
Lyon

Griffs:
Cossa
Lethemon

Walleye:
Gylander
Bednar

I thought that Lethemon was just sorta getting an "atta boy" for stepping up and helping out the organization last season when our goaltenders were all hurt or underperforming? I really didn't get the impression that the organization saw any potential in him.

Well he get that atta boy contract in March, but then we re-signed him in July. Think they're gonna make a Brian Lashoff out of him.

Meh.   Depends who is writing.  Wheeler?   A guesser with a blindfold and dart..

I prefer Pronman and I'm assuming so does a few GM's.   Besides the usuals, he had as a final prospect ranking right before the draft:

N8 #7 drafted #9

Danil But #9 drafted #12

Simashev #10 drafted #6

Also on Seider, his regrets as a scouting learning tool

My problem with self proclaimed MASTER OF THE DRAFT Corey Wrongman is he bashed the Seider pick up and down all summer.

Then once it became clear Seider was very good, and he was very wrong, he says "yeah I basically didn't ever scout Seider or watch him play, but now that I am watching him I can see I was wrong"

So you didn't bother to watch Seider initially? Then you didn't bother to go back and watch him all summer? But you still ran your mouth and formed a hard opinion, until training camp when it became absolutely clear your opinion was BTFO and r-slurred?

That's basically the most unprofessional excuse you can give, and exactly why I don't pay for the wannabe-experts at the Athletic.

I trust the eyes and mouths of many forum junkies I've met more than I do Corey. At least they will tell you they "can't say" when they haven't seen a prospect play. Wrongman is a joke. Although hopefully he learned an important lesson from having to tuck his tail and admit he was wrong about Seider.

His hottest take was Simashev ranked at #10, but going 6. It wasn't even hot enough. I had Simashev as the best D in the draft, which is well documented. Corey had Reinbacher above Simashev. And I promise you, watch, Simashev is going to blow the wheels off Reinbacher. Just remind me this thread exists in 3 seasons.

Corey inserts his opinions, but also dumbs them down to meet the collective expectations of the hockey community. Maybe that's smart for a journalist, IDK. But it's not smart for someone who trots themselves out as an expert.

I think Corey Pronman is a lil bitc, and all my homies think Corey Pronman is a lil *****.

Furthermore, I admit I do have a chip on my shoulder about the athletic. Since they came into being hockey fans have treated them like the experts on hockey.

Whoaaaa you have to pay for their opinions. It's exclusive. These guys are the top ****.

They're not. They're the same as any other r-slurred journalist - they're just using a new revenue stream.

I probably watch more obscure footage of hockey than these journos - writing a story that is manipulated to get clicks (which they absolutely do in the business) - do. And there's many more online hockey nerds who watch way more than me.

This will irk me less when fans stop treating the athletic like gospel. You can find better content on forums if you know where to look and know how to sift through numbskulls and real observers...
