Same as Rasmussen - thrust into the league too soon because BIG

I said it all this past summer, he's not ready, and I want to see him Grand Rapids on a perma-basis for a while yet. Last year was a test to see if he could hang based on his size, and he couldn't. Keep him down and forget about him being on the Wings for a while.

QFT.  The Swedish development programs are weak.  These guys all come over thinking theyre already Peter Forsberg or Nick Lidstrom.  Raymond figured it out and started lifting the iron.  He's been much heavier on the puck this year as a result.  Soderblom and Edvinsson have NOT figured it out.  They each need 10 more lbs of thigh muscle and 10 more lbs of upper body muscle.  But each of them is going to go home to Sweden as fast as they can and spank it all summer.  If Soderblom REALLY wanted to be on the Detroit Red Wings, he'd show up to camp at 275 lbs and jacked as all f v c k.

Sodorblom said in a video last year that he benches 350 lbs. I’m not sure strength is his issue.

He's alow like Dave Andreychuk slow and gets tired after 20 seconds on the ice.  He's not in good enough condition to play NHL hockey even if he gets fast enough.  Only way he's getting fastet is squats and lunges.  I know lazy, non lifting swedegard when I see one.  He's one.

I actually agree. I think he’s plenty fast enough. He just doesn’t play with pace. I even agree that it’s probably his conditioning. He needs time to learn how to move his 250 lbs body nonstop for 45 seconds most effectively. It’s mot as simple as it seems. Years ago I remember Blashill talking about how Larkin was killing himself by going out and flying around as fast as he could for a shift and doing nothing more than skating himself into trouble or wearing himself out. Winning your shifts and playing with pace isn’t about speed, or lack of it even. Look at Perron, he’s slow as hell but he doesn’t stop moving his feet and he never quits on plays. THATS what Sodorblom needs to learn how to do.

Not to throw cold water on all the Kasper talk, especially since I've been pumping his tires for a while now. But if you go back a look at his goals recently you'll notice that many of them are of the soft variety. The good news is that he's been generating so many chances that even a few weak ones are going in. But he's definitely going to need to work on his shot. He reminds me a little bit of (early career) Larkin in that respect. His work ethic and wheels create more chances than his finish ability is currently translating. Hopefully, like Larkin, he'll continue to improve in that area and it will become a strength for him. Larkin's wrist shot went from being below average to a real strength over the course of his development.

Max interviewed Dan Watson for the Athletic.

I know as the coach he's a little bias, but Dan called Edvinsson "the best D prospect he's ever seen in (that) league"

Nah. We don't really pay attention to you anyway........

Cossa was solid again last night. He’s been really really good lately. May never be the best goalie in terms of individual skill, but he’s learning to play well in a defensive system and make the stops he needs to make when he does finally get tested. This is really good news for the Wings.

Conditioning assignment.

It's a conditioning stint after his injury.

Hopefully he can condition himself the rest of the season.

Everyday that goes by I thank Yzerman for continuing to draft goalies with high picks. All the folks who were saying don't draft goalies high and just throw some rando in there because Niemi won a cup one time can get rekt. Even after all the good attempts to shore up this position we are still struggling in net. I'd bet on he's drafting another goalie this year.

Because goalie is the easiest position to fill without drafting.

Here's a fun tidbit of prospect news. Amongst U20 players in the AHL Marco Kasper is now fifth in scoring behind Shane Wright, Jiri Kulich, Joachim Kemell, and Ivan Miroshinchenko. He's within 4 points of all but Wright. All four of those player were billed as "high offense" players in their draft years (all drafted the same year as Kasper). Three of them are also wingers. Wright is the only player who is both a center AND producing more than Kasper. In addition, none of the four suffered a broken kneecap and had to rehab all summer instead of train and work on their game.

If you're the Red Wings I think you have to be pretty pleased that Kasper is tracking right alongside his draft class peers offensively. Hopefully this further dispels any notion that "Kasper has a limited offensive ceiling". He reminds me of Seider in this respect; people doubted his offense because he isn't flashy but he's consistently produced higher end (but not elite) offense at every stage of his development.
