I think there's a real chance Compher is waived.

Im on the fence with Burgers... he needs to be put in a Kane type role. He's not getting that here. If a package of Burgers, a 2nd rounder and a forward prospect... say Mazur can get you a solid #4D I think you make that trade.

Yes/No.   Any suggestions on why that could be?

I think Compher would have value in trade as well. Some combination of all the assets you mentioned should be on the table. I wonder if Florida would want Compher? Maybe something for Mikkola?

I think Florida could be in real trouble with the cup hangover and significant injuries. 

I'd love for us to find a Gavrikov, Gudas, etc. type before they fully pop-off... someone good defensively with some snarl.

I agree, that's why I'm into Mikkola. He's big, physical, and played hard minutes on a Cup winner. Exactly the kind of dude we need. During the summer there were some rumors about Florida maybe trading him to clear up some cap space. 

We've got to accomplish two things with the defense, 1) Get Chiarot off the top pair, and 2) find a long(ish) term partner to pair with ASP. I'd roll with something like this for the year and then break ASP in on the 2nd pair next season when Chiarot's contract is up.

No way, that's Holland Era trauma speaking. He'll be 34 and he'll get the Petry treatment. Yzerman has shown he's willing to let guys like Gostisbehere, Perron, Maatta, and Walman go. He's not keeping Chiarot.

He'll let Chiarot go to free agency, and Ben will sign in a depth role for a contender. He wants a Cup I'm sure. Meanwhile, Stevie will be happy to have the cap savings and all parties will part amicably.

Yeah im with Kip on this one - id be shocked if stevie re-signed Chia. As much as Ive been one of the few who has appreciated him, hes old and will have served his purpose after this year. I guess theres a chance he could get a Hamonic type deal if he wants to stay, but I would expect a 1 year and cheap.

Unless SY is a total fraud, he will spend his pocket book next summer on a new 2nd pair Dman to play with ASP.

I also highly doubt JTC will even be considered for waivers... he had a down year last year on the score sheet, but he's still a heavily leaned on player who plays in all situations, in any forward position, and takes right hand faceoffs. He'll have EVERY chance to make this a bounce back year. 

However, i did like Todds recent comments on his depth centers... forget what the exact question was, but he basically said if his depth centers (i take this to mean Copp, JTC, and Ras) want to sit back and play a "cerebral" "read" game they will not find themselves at center... AKA he wants centers that engage and muck, and thats his expectation for those two/three. 

I like this. Time to turn up the heat. Time to become panthers-esque squad or u will find urself at bottom 6 wing...

Max Bultman put out his roster projection for game 1. It's basically exactly what you'd expect. Bernard Docker and Hamonic are the extra Dmen. Soderblom is the extra forward. 

Except... he projects THE FINNGOD TO START AT TOP LINE.

I really hope Compher starts out hot and pumps up that trade value a little bit. I think he's a genuinely good trade piece. His contract is a little bit of an issue, but he's going to be attractive to some team with Cup aspirations that's a little weak in their middle six. I fully expect Florida would be interested, given Barkov's injury. But also teams like Toronto and Carolina in the East and Dallas or Vegas in the West.

After watching them in camp and the pre-season I genuinely think MBN-Danielson-Finnie/Lombardi/Mazur would be a qualitative improvement over any combination of Compher, Berggren, Sodorblom, or JVR. Trade Compher (plus whatever else) for help on defense and roll with a sheltered "kid line" as the 3rd line. Do what Tampa did with Kucherov, Palat, and Johnson en route to cup final when they were all super young and on the same line.

I thought ASP looked really good tonight tho. He’s been playing conservatively it seems because he had a lot of razzle dazzle with the puck tonight. He’s gonna be a good one.

Compher at best is our 4C and making 3 x $5,100,000 is way too much for a 4C Those deals for Burger and Mazur sound fine.

Luke Hughes just got a 7x$9M AAV extension.... Looks like Edvinsson will be getting at least Seiders $8.5M, maybe even more.

I hope it's about that, or not much more...Not to say there would be discontent in the locker room if he got more due to the cap rising, but both RayGun and Mo are on solid cap friendly deals and will be deemed underpaid in a few seasons from now.

If that were the case, the league could calibrate a teams cap to local tax rates... 

For example, maybe Florida has a cap of 85M and Detroit 95M and Edmonton 105M such that 10% of the cap is the same take-home pay after tax.

MBN looks really good, but Finnie is ABSO-LUTELY making the team. Not only is he consistently scoring, but he's out there picking pockets and making defensive plays. And this kid just turned 20...

After cuts the remaining prospects are Finnie, MBN, Mazur, ASP, Wallinder, and Postava.

Finnie - already has made the team if you ask me

MBN - looks poised for great things, but I think he will go down to get more ice time. That said, he will certainly be a #1 callup kinda guy

Mazur - its simply time for him. Time to see what we have ans what he can do. Will likely be the #1 forward callup unless MBN can out compete him

ASP - Going down. Not a bad thing. Just needs more time to cook and get more ice time. 

Wallinder - looks much improved. Should be #1 D callup. Hopefully threatens Berndock and Hamonics jobs.

Postave - think hes simply around so the wings can get more looks at him. Absolutely going down.
