Not sure I understand the why......

UPDATE: The #RedWings today acquired a 2nd round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft (originally Tampa’s) and forward Jesse Kiiskinen from the Nashville Predators in exchange for Andrew Gibson.

His motor never stops. Kiiskinen makes second and third efforts on the forecheck, catches unsuspecting defensemen on the tracks, and is a diligent defensive player. Kiiskinen scans ahead of puck retrievals and makes plays with pace.

Florida just won with 10 forwards who play like this.

SY does not have any extra picks until the 7th round. This gives him an extra 2nd to use in a deal.

dumping Jake's 3.5 and needing to add a 2nd as well?

Walman isn't the guy you dump and shouldn't need an asset attached.  He's worth that contract... this better be 3D chess and not opening a spot for Holl.

wtf?

WALGOD NOOOOOOOO

There must be something really big going down that will involve San Jose for SY to gift them this.

Perhaps acquiring a big player with some of these assets and then flipping to us and retaining to us for considerations?

Ok, so, so far we've gotten worse this off season. I do wonder what Walman did to get ousted. It's no coincidence this comes after his healthy scratches to end the season.

That being said, now we need a top pairing LHD. Edvinsson isn't ready for that.

I disagree. We need another top dman but Ed is ready for huge minutes paired with Seider.

Mehhh idk I certainly disagree, and I was happy to hear SY say at the predraft press conference that he was a little disappointed with Edvinsson and thought he could do more. Continued by saying Ed still needs to earn it.

Ed will be best dman on the team by end of next season.

yah, the SCAM has 2 things that you cannot question - his drafting prowess - known to trade/move up to get more good picks in each draft, and his zero strike policy on player shenanigans.  Vrana tested the zero strike policy - BYE.  Walbiff tested it - BYE.  Wonder if a Gost signing is imminent.

I'm with you on this.  He's awesome.  His skating is top tier for a big man with that kind of reach.  Once he gets his NHL legs under him that allow him to always be in position, the reach will give him an extra element like Lidstrom had.  He's the 2nd coming of Hedman.

I disagree with this.  I have our D ranked like this from worst to first last year:

Petry

Chiarot

Gost (first 50 games)

Walman

Holl

Gost (last 30 games)

Maatta

Edvinsson

Seider

I think this is a good move from the Scam.  3.5 mil off the books.  Can't have this be a move completed to be able to sign Perron, though.  That's a gigantic miss if the Scam does that.  This has to be to free up room for some impact players (Seider, Raymond, Kane, Jarry, etc.).

Yzerman traded a 2nd to get Leddy

He traded Leddy to get a 2nd + Walman

He used that 2nd to draft Andrew Gibson

Then he traded Gibson for a 2nd

And finally he used that 2nd to trade away Walman

No matter how you look at it, we paid SJ a 2nd to enjoy Jake Walman

Here's my theory: this is a 3way deal with the Rags

SJS picked up Goodrow on waivers as a favor to the rags. Walman and the 2nd are the payment for that. Now the Rags will eat salary on Trouba and send him to Detroit for nothing in return.
