Eastern Conference dark horse...

Indeed.

Good learning experience...Learning how not to poop the bed multiple times throughout the season...Will be interesting to see who comes/goes this summer.

Needs.to be a lot of going... the Arizona to Utah ordeal will be a wrinkle... supposedly they plan to be aggressive IE drive the market up on everything.

Yzerman is the least of this teams' woes.....Unless of course we hold him accountable for hiring Lalonde.

He constructed a roster that was one injury away from blowing the entire season AND THEN didn't do anything to address any deficiencies at the trade deadline. I'd say a big part of this is on him.

Poor Dylan Larkin. Literally did everything he needed to do to make the playoffs and the team lost it for him when he was out.

He crippled this team.  I'm torn on Lalonde though.  If he recommended Petry, he also crippled the team.  Paying (2) defensemen that don't play defense 7 million a season is out of this world BONKERS.  Holl, by every statistic and every eyeball test, was the better player over Petry this year.  Edvinsson was brought up WAY TOO LATE.  Berggren didn't get any serious stretches of play.  And the result - We piss ourselves out of the playoffs AND the upcoming draft.  Going to wait until the draft is over to get the YzerSCAM on the whipping table, but things aren't looking good right now.  Serious sus moves/non-moves for 23-24.  I'd say he cost this team a playoff run, which is the EXACT OPPOSITE of what he's supposed to do.

50/50

Part of me thinks Yzerman had playoff hopes when signing Kane - at that time all was going well.

Part of me thinks Yzerman didn't want  to cash in some future assets/picks/etc at the deadline for a shot at the playoffs.

The rebuild continues...I'm hoping there are changes behind the bench.

I know we are disappointed as fans, but this is the exact kick in the pants this team needs/needed.

They probably thought they were giving their 100% to make the playoffs. And they just learned their (what they think is) 100% isnt enough. Its a bitter lesson, but one that has to be learned by every team. You can't coast for the last 20 games of the season and I then expect to make it on miracle goals in the few seconds of the last 2 games.

Now it's on Derek to channel that dissapointment into desire to correct those mistakes and overcome. And on Yzerman to augment personal to make us even better next year.

Kudos to Derek and Stephen and Larkin on the exciting season most of us didn't see coming. You don't go from bottom feeder to cup champ in one season. I trust them to build from here. LGRW!

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK I can't believe our season just ended like that. I wanted playoff hockey so bad.

Cuz u a diehard.  I really had zero hopes of us doing any damage, but wanted to see it too.  Good thing is Edvinsson and Lyon go down to GR for AHL playoffs.

This is the most exciting hockey we've seen in 10 years. I was fully bought in this season and we played like it all year long for the most part. It sucks SO bad to see them blow it like this. There were absolutely points this season where I thought we were amongst the 5-10 best teams in the league and then we completely deflated in the last third of the season. God damn it.

We will get there! 3 legit superstars in Larks, MO, Ray, and more young ones on the way. Detroit wasn't built in a day, and the future is bright.

Edvinsson and Seider are absolute GEMS.  If we get Johansson, Tuomisto, ASP, and Wallinder up to a reliable level, we will be OUTSTANDING on the backend.  Im absolutely excited about Detroit from the blueline in.  Forward group is still a bit sus.

The brutal part is Philly pulls the goalie in regulation, in a tied game, with seconds to go in the wings game, because they need the Wings to lose in regulation, and themselves to win in regulation to make the playoffs. Not knowing the wings scored with 3 seconds left and they were already eliminated, Philly went ahead and pulled the net, ending both our seasons with this move.

Don't want scenarios like this to decide your fate? Maybe don't give up 8 goals to teams like the coyotes in 2 games in March.

Glad we are (hopefully) learning that lesson now.

NBA has play in games for 7 and 8 seeds.  NHL needs to adopt this too.

Post game interviews

Larkin - seems absolutely destroyed. Feel bad for him. It's no wonder he's the captain. He had it all on the line.

Perron - talks about how this is the biggest defeat/let-down the young guys have ever experienced. Naturally the wings only let the media interview vets. I think this was a tremendously important learning moment for Raymond and Seider and friends.

Kane - refers to his time with the wings in the past tense. He's already gone. Had detailed ideas about his offseason plans to become a more explosive skater as a vet. Wings fans need to stop pretending he's re-signing.

My biggest fear is the Flyers needing to win in regulation to have a shot at the playoffs.   I can just see a tie game with 5 minutes to go and Torts pulls the goalie.

Could be good, but chances are a Caps empty netter does us in.

s***e happens

Lyon would still need to clear waivers, right? And the way he played this year, along with his minimal salary, he'd surely get picked up.

Thanks Torts

So, does that mean even if Philly's plan worked and they won in regulation, it wouldn't had mattered because Detroit got a point? They both would've had 90 with us having the tie breaker right? If so, then dang it! The timing couldn't have been worse for them to score that open net goal...

If only Newsy had called Torts from the bench and said hold your goalie, we got this!

I found this yesterday of what was needed for Philly to squeak in

https://www.nbcsportsphiladelphia.com/nhl/philadelphia-flyers/philadelphia-flyers-playoff-chances-scenarios-odds-tiebreaker-details-eastern-conference-second-wild-card-berth/578401/

They thought we had lost and who of us expected a tying goal with 3 sec left? Of course you pull the goalie to try to win in regulation and pray for a miracle tonight between Pens/Isles

I am not sure what their plan was if they had heard we won. I guess keep playing to hope to win in OT? Our going to OT basically shut their season down in the last minutes of a game.

The lesson in all of this as WE are all aware is take care of your own business and play 60 min x 82 games and you shouldn't be in a situation depending on others to help you.

Had to explain to my son this morning that Al the Octopus won't be coming to Cinco De Mayo again this year. Really stings, but he is learning about dissapointment and healthy ways to cope.

Does anyone remember when Tampa got swept in the 1st round by the jackets and the team issued an apology to the fans? That would be an appropriate gesture from the wings org right about now.
