Smith's first career goal! Amazing to see the youth making a growing impact on this team. Smith's family is in attendance; we've all dreamed about that moment, scoring that first NHL goal. Amazing to see it manifest itself in Brendan Smith.

:sly: We will all grow to love this kid

#2261875 Ryan Jones

I would take Ryan Jones over Abdelkader any day of the week. He puts more pucks in the back of the net. A great PK guy. He even beat his ass the other week in a fight.

ryan jones? a useless plug who is inferior to helm or abdelkader?

Well I dunno that he's inferior, just different. But he's definitely a plug-in sort of guy right now. He's not really the talented top six or shutdown centre with high-end face-off skill that we need.

#2265652 07/08 Wings VS 11/12 Wings

Posted by LeonardSankar on 02 March 2012 - 11:53 AM

Well what are the main differences b/t the Wings of 07/08 that won the Cup to this years team? For starters I'll list a few of them below:

a) Team Defense - the 07/08 squad could actually shut down the opposition with ease and use of their superior puck possession game as they gave up the fewest shots on goal per game and very little quality scoring chances. The same cannot be said about this years teams as our goalies are being hung out to dry and the PK flat out sucks.

b) Scoring - I'd say the scoring is about the same but with this years team lacking the defense that the 08 team had then we are at a huge disadvantage b/c with the porous defense you need to score alot more to win but the Wings still don't get the clutch goals when they need them. Also back in 08 the Wings could be counted on when they needed the big goals as they still only had 2 big guns up front with Dats & Zett but they got more secondary scoring when need be.

c) Goaltending - I'd say this is the only area that's better but its not showing up in the stats sheet b/c they give up more goals and its attributed to horrible team defense. So Jimmy is better than Hasek & OsGood but he is only as good as the skaters around him and thus his fine heroics have been wasted at times.

d) Powerplay - the powerplay was fairly consistent back in 08 with a few dry spells but nothing compared to today's unit that flat out sucks. Also the SH goals given up are also inexcuseable.

e) Penalty Kill - another unit that has had a huge downfall from 08 and thus one of the main reasons for the spike in goals allowed.

f) Secondary/Role Players - Well the 08 had some decent gritty players like Dallas Drake, Draper when healthy, Helm's arrival, and also players like Hudler & Fill were just entering the league. Today's team has some better support players according to the numbers but what they don't do is make plays when it matters most e.g. clear the puck of their own zone when leading by a goal in the final minute, or score the clutch goal that will ice the game or break a tie.

So with all this factors I would say that this team will not match what the 08 team did in the playoffs which is win the Cup as in 08 they only had to deal with San Jose as the other powerhouse in the West and fortunately they got upset, but this year Vancouver is the main competition but teams like the Blues, Preds & Hawks can all eliminate the Wings.

#2263241 Top 15 Nicest Players

Posted by BigWillieStyle on 27 February 2012 - 04:30 AM

Granted, fans would be enraged but GM's are suppose to think about the superficial and temporary voice of fans. Found the statistical site ... % chance of each NHL team making playoffs. As of today, Anaheim has a 5.8% chance of making it.

Teemu, come on over ... pleeze.

Don't know if you've noticed this, but they are 18-3-4 in their last 25 games, better than any other team in the league in the last 25. Any GM would be a fool to blow up a team that is playing that hot. Especially one that has gone on runs like that in the past, to make the playoffs. Besides, a trade would be Selanne's decission, not Murray's. I wouldn't hold your breath on Teemu becoming a Wing.

hi, you mean those guys that run around bases and sometimes get the sun in their eyes?

there's a reason why players aren't very friendly to each other on the ice, and that's because it is a high-speed contact sport with sticks and shoulder pads.

HUUURRR DURRR... no s***. I was just saying that, obviously, baseball players are nicer to other baseball players than hockey players are to other hockey players

jesus

Looked like a trip to me....he stuck his stick out...while he was falling...obvious trip is a trip...

cant stress enough, if Holland does nothing else to better this team, Wings are in trouble....Make something happen Kenny!

Didn't look like one to me at all. I guess I am in the minority.

#2016399 Jimmy cracks top 10 goalies in NHL

Posted by puffy on 17 July 2010 - 10:58 PM

Marc Andre Fleury is so overrated it hurts.

For starters a 2.65 GAA is hardly something to brag about, especially when you play on a great team.

Lets forget GAA for a second though because I know people like to bring up SV%.

MARC ANDRE FLEURY
2005/2006 .898
2006/2007 .906
2007/2008 .921
2008/2009 .912
2009/2010 .905

JEAN SEBASTIEN GIGUERE
2005/2006 .911
2006/2007 .918
2007/2008 .922
2008/2009 .900
2009/2010 .916 (With Toronto)

Does anyone see the irony here? JS Giguere is a past his prime pile of puke according to many people and yet Fleury makes the Top 10 in some cases? Give me a break!!! Put Marc-Andre on the Leafs and see if he can pull off a GAA lower than 3.20 and a save % higher than .900. I highly doubt he can.

#1934977 Any Word on Hossa's injury?

Posted by Crymson on 08 April 2010 - 06:38 PM

And you have an obvious hard on for Hossa. Datsyuk was skating great and killing penalties like always. He didn't get points but he wasnt obviously bad like Hossa was, Hossa looked like s***. Especially for a guy who jumped ship to win a cup he should've played a lot better. The commentators were constantly saying it was the best slump they've ever seen.

Get off Hossa's **** and realize he played awful last year in the playoffs. There is absolutely no way around it.

And no I'm not a homer I'm one of the few here that are usually critical about the wings and don't think Kenny is god.

Please stop indulging Carman. I am 100% serious when I say that he is ONLY saying all of this stuff in order to get a rise out of you. That is his sole purpose on these forums. He shows up to make people angry. He's a consummate troll. I'm not kidding.

That's it. You are a completely oblivious homer.

There is no way to logically convey anything coherent to you anymore.

#1929092 Hudler done with dynamo

Posted by SouthernWingsFan on 31 March 2010 - 07:16 AM

Would be glad to have him back. Putting up nearly 60 points in a season in his limited role/ice time is solid. Keep him as a PP specialist and roughly 3rd line minutes as he was used his last season with the Wings.

Unfortuantely though I am predicting a Filppula vs. Hudler pissing and moaning match coming from a mile away later today... *sigh*

#1926189 3/27 OOT Gameday

Posted by dat's sick on 27 March 2010 - 01:19 PM

I had a feeling Calgary would fall apart after losing to the Islanders. It would take a lot for them to pull together after a loss like that, knowing that they have to win pretty much every game in order to have a chance at the playoffs.

3-0 Boston. I'm going out on a limb here and saying WE ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS! :)
