Exactly. Though this thread is two kinds of people, Red Wings' fans and Osgood haters. I'm the former. I just hate when the latter dismisses any kind of explanation as being in some Osgood cult. I support both goaltenders and the better they BOTH do the better the team is and the happier I am. Go Osgood one of the best Wings of all-time and Go Howard this team is yours now, make us proud! -
1 pointFunny pic aside I have a question for everyone: Who are some other players in the league that have a skill set comparable to Tomas Holmstrom's? He provides a net-front presence, makes awesome deflections and sometimes has an uncanny ability to anticipate where the puck will go after shots hit off people, which is part of what allows him to retrieve pucks so well. He doesn't just do those things on the power play but also 5-on-5. Franzen, for example, can play that role on the power play but he's more of a shooter when he plays 5-on-5. The only comparable names that come to mind are Ryan Smyth and Patric Hornqvist. Ryan Clowe plays the role but I've only seen him do it on the PP. On the Red Wings, Dan Cleary is probably the closest the Wings have to a Holmstrom replacement. But who else is there?

So I am watching the Avalanche - Canucks on versus, and the Stanley Cup Playoffs commercial just came on with Yzerman scoring that remarkable goal in overtime verse St. Louis. It got me thinking of all the memories I've watching Detroit Hockey over the past 10-15 years. I just wanted to say I love the Detroit Red Wings and all the entertainment they have provided me on and off the ice. Just a enlightening drama free thread to say some positive team for our wings! : ) -
1 pointLink I personally think he's an idiot, he falls within the NHL's boundaries for Rookie consideration, therefore he should be treated as such regardless of how close he is to the limit.

Should the Wings part ways with Osgood?
swiss_fan gave a reaction for a post in a topic
Don't pay attention to Mindfly. He makes all of these suggestions because he can't stomach it when the Wings aren't dominating. If they won 65 games but won all of them by only one goal, he'd be bitching about how they weren't dominating enough. His life as concerns the Wings really revolves around the fact that he apparently has zero in the way of nerves; he feels he's being robbed when the Wings don't dominate in a fashion that doesn't cause him to feel nervous or disappointed. -

Should the Wings part ways with Osgood?

Well, I'm not one to be incredibly familiar with a lot of NHLers around the league, but it's not hard to figure out why this is a pretty absurd idea. Howard proved his worth this year getting more playing time and it's hard to think he won't at least share time with Osgood/any other goalie years down the road as his career goes on. Slim/none that he will be a backup anymore after this season. I don't see how Price or Halak are that significantly better than Howard to justify a trade for them. -
1 point1-7-2 That is Wings record in Osgoods last 10 starts. If he was even average in that stretch we could possibly be fighting for the division right now and would be in a lot better shape for 4th at least. 4 pts in 10 games is horrible from your backup. Are we seeing Ozzie's last games in a Red Wings jersey? Coaches obviously have no confidence in him, given the start streak Howard has gotten. Do we go into next season with him as our backup?

I don't normally agree with you, but this times a million. If Filppula is to be traded, it better be as a center piece of the return for some PROVEN ELITE talent. As for Osgood, I have had the opportunity to have several "in-depth" (relative to the average athlete-fan relationship/interaction) conversations with him, and I really think most of his problems are just from his personal life. Not going to post anything specific, since they are just conclusions drawn on things he has said, but I expect that his drop in play has a lot more to do with distractions in his personal life than lack of talent/drive at this point and time. -

I still can't figure out why Babcock did that. It definitely contributed to the loss. -

Scotty Bowman said to keep Price... so that's my vote. Or was Bowman playing mind games again? Or does he want us to think he is playing mind games??? -
1 pointYou should go back and watch some of the early Howard games this season. His rebound control has improved dramatically. Howard is worth every penny we pay him, and if he continues to improve, I see no reason why he won't be a primary goalie for a long time.

1 pointIf Howard finishes 2nd I won't be disappointed as long as the winner is Myers and not Duchene.

Doc Holliday reacted to Opie for a post in a topic
Wait, when did Downie become anything more than a thug with good linemates? The man has had one good season, in any league, other than that he has been okay, while breaking rules, bones, teammates faces, and getting severe suspensions. He has a Hart finalist and a potential future HOFer on his line, and that is just St Louis. And BTW I love the he only gets 14 minutes and Stamkos and St Louis get more argument, he must play with other lines. UMM NO! That means his line plays with another winger half of the time. Why could that be? Could it be like Cheechoo and Michalek and many many others, he is making a living off of their linemates? NO, it has to be because Downie is so good, that playing him anything more than 15 minutes would be illegal, actually I read some where that the league told Tampa, if he reaches the 15 mpg average Tampa has to forfeit all of their games! Here is the reason for this thread, LGW gets a boner for enforcers, Downie is a goon, who due to his linemates is productive. Seriously, next season I want to be on St. Louis and Stamkos line, I will play for free, and I guarantee you I score 10+ just by listening to Mickey and stopping at the net with my stick on the ice. BTW I suck at Hockey. The other reason, LGW gets a boner for Canadians, and Downie being a Canadien thug who probably shouldn't even be allowed in the league anymore, gets LGW a raging hard on. Don't blame me those are just the facts! I mean the guy puts up Sammy/Hudler numbers and is a god, while those guys were scrubs, hmmm could that be because they are not Canadian, GRRRRRRRRRRRRRITTTTTT! -

Are you high?!? Price is going to get at least 2.5 mil on his next deal and Howard has been STELLAR...why would he back up? Add that to the fact that you want to give up a NOT EVEN PRIME Flip AND a pick... there's not an ounce of logic behind this thought... this is easily one of the most hair-brained suggestions I have ever read on this board and there have been a lot of them... -
1 pointHe'll be back, for loyalty, for cap reasons. The only way he leaves is if he wants to leave and asks to be traded. I honestly think now that we know what we have with Howard, and the fact that next season we hopefully won't be fighting such ridiculous bad luck and injuries, Osgood will get more consistent starts. It's not Osgood's fault that Babcock needed to rely on Howard because the team was so terrible for most of this year. Next year when they get a fresh start he'll be a backup still but it'll be split more evenly like it was intended to be this year. You can't get any better than Osgood for his price, and if given the chance to play semi-regularly he'll get his game back and be the best possible backup in the league.

1 pointI live in Chicago and I'm so sick of these fans all of a sudden wearing Jerseys and all interested now because they have a winning team this year. It would make my year for us to face the Blackhawks 1st round and, Shut this City up!

Now that I think about it, if Campbell is only out for a couple more weeks, we might as well get Chicago now instead of later when he's back to take advantage of it. But it's most likely that we get Vancouver so I doubt it. And plus there's a really cute boy in one of my classes that wears a Blackhawks hat every other day so this way I have an excuse to talk to him. -

1 pointWho the hell is talking about 1 game? I love how the Ozzie slappys are out in force "His last game was as good as Howards" Who gives a flying (you know what) Howard also had a shutout last week that went into the SO. Howard also is top 5 in Sv % and GAA. Osgood is 1-7-2 his last 10 starts and has horrible stats. Who gives a rats (you know what) what they each did their last game. This thread wasnt about todays game, it was about ozzies last 10 and his season in general.

The big reason I hope we move on from Osgood is the hope that we'll get a solid reliable backup for Jimmy. Think about it, if Jimmy got hurt tomorrow and was out for 4-6 months, chances are we would be in big big trouble. So hopefully next season we'll have a capable consistent backup that would be able to come in if the worst happens to Howard, and we can all still feel confident about our team's chances. Howard's durability right now could literally make or break our chances of bringing home Lord Stanley's Cup. I pray that he stays healthy for the rest of the season and post season. -
