Lol at the knee jerkers, you guys are ridiculous. The guy has one slump and everyone questions his contract (which is pretty reasonable for what he gives). Guess you guys are forgetting how many goals he has this year (more than anyone else on the team, including guys who are paid far more), and his past 3 playoff performances. Thank god our management isn't as blind as some of the posters here.

Honestly I'd take more satisfaction from the Hawks not even making the playoffs, though it seems unlikely. If we meet them in the first round, so be it. Unless this Wings team can flip the switch, honestly I see them struggling in the first round. I'm hoping they can survive that first series and work themselves into true playoff mode. I just don't know if anything short of a first round scare is really going to register with this team and wake them up.

We make a thread a day about these hits and suspensions and they normally go 4 pages deep at least. Where have you been?

Just checking out the standings and I saw that if the playoffs started today that is who the wings would play. How sweet would it be after last season to beat the crap outta the Hawks in the first round? Looking at a lot of the matchups I think these guys might be who I want to play the most. They are not very physical, the wings know them well and they do not have much for goaltending which always seems to kill the wings in the first round. Showing who daddy is in the central division would also be nice. Heres hopings for wings vs Hawks first round

Not even close to one. There's no real bad blood between the two teams, they're not really on the same skill level, and Nashville games are usually really boring.

i dont like the whole "but he's good in the playoffs" deal, because quite frankly, if you dont bring it in the regular season, there wont be a post season.

Not a knee-jerk at all. I along with several others expressed disapointment with the length of the contract at the time, he basically got a Franchise Player contract as a reward for 27 and 34 goal seasons - at the age of 29. Especially for a player who is prone to floating for large periods of time, whatever happened to "The Mule?" The money is a bit meh, $4m for a 30 goal scorer is OK I guess. The only good thing about the contract is its structure, so he can retire/be bought out without giving us a punishing cap hit. As for Rafalski, I've never regarded his contract as the albatross some do. It seemed like a lot at the time, but he was a key, key component of our 2008 cup, part of the "Big 5" that Babcock would ice against the oppositions top line, and just for that I regard his contract as worth it. So by the same token if Franzen scores 12 goals in the playoffs and leads us to the Cup I guess I can forgive him

These hits used to happen all the time and went unpenalized. I'm glad they are trying to do away with plays like these, but I'm not shocked, angry, etc. after seeing this stuff happen for years. Next, take out the instigator and let players handle their frustrations in a safer way. I'd take a punch to the face over a elbow to the head any day.

Remember when they actually used to say what the injury was? "Lower body injury" and other vague descriptions were only really used in the playoffs. Nowadays it's practically like "Datsyuk injury? Who's Datsyuk? I don't know anyone by that name, and if I did I would have no information on his injury."

Why does everyone think Rafalski is so bad on D? I mean I watch most Wings games, and I know he's no Nick Lidstrom, but he seems to hold his own quite well defensively.
