    Edzo BINGO

The only thing Mickey repeats are little old-time sayings. They just make it feel like you're hanging out with your grandpa watching the game. He doesn't repeat himself with longer phrases every few minutes, every game, that make him sound like he's reading from a script or stuck with a limited vocabulary. I hate Edzo.

Wings didn't do anything we didn't know they could do. The play well when they feel like it, and play poorly when they come out lazy and unmotivated. This time, both those things happened in one game as opposed to being a game to game thing.

Took care of that one for ya. But really, that will be a great game to be at. The Joe shall be filled with Maple Laugh fans I am sure. Maybe the 3rd period Wings from last night will show and send them back to TO crying in their Gilmour jerseys.

Apparently Mursak has been called up. That is something. http://redwings.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=553979

    Would you rather...?

That's not patriotism. That's called "American Exceptionalism" and it's dangerous. It's the idea that we're perfect, every other country is s***, and thus we do no wrong and only do right. We all know that's a crock of horsepuckey. People that think this way scare the living daylights out of me. Moving on to the topic of the thread, I'd rather Nick retire.

    Helm

I could post 3 million different things as I go with this thread. Just more pops into my head, but he is playing to an even bigger contract down the road, 2nd line type minutes, and possibly a future Assistant Captain. His development has been the most fun to watch of any Wing I can remember.

    Helm

He's playing like he deserves to be on one of the top 2 lines. Yes Helm should be on one of the top 2 lines ladies and gents...

    Helm

if a hockey team was built solely with guys like helm, they would go far every year. is he a sniper? nope. a deker? nope. 50 goal scorer? nope. hart trophy finalist? nope. then what the f*** does he have? heart and determination. he plays every shift like its his last. you cant teach that. you can teach hockey moves.

    will the wings re-sign modano?

As long as Mursak is on the team next year I'm fine with Modano. Emmerton, Miller and Draper - I do not think it will be devastating to lose one or two of them.

    The Wings flipped the "switch"

Playoffs don't start until April. Sorry. Last night was just another game.

He's sorry. But, we already knew that.

    Cooke suspended

Not sure why they ended the suspension at first round. With his track history it should've been season and playoffs, period. Most people would like to see him banned from the league but I won't be too hard on them for not going that extreme. But why let him into the playoffs at all?

    Jimmy Howard watch thread

Howard has been mediocre all year. He has some flashes of brilliance and then offsetting flashes of bad. It all averages out to him being mediocre. Yes the defense hasn't been great. But be honest to yourself here. What separates mediocre goalies from the elite goalies? The elite ones make those saves that they had no chance too. The elite goalies steal multiple games a year by standing on their head and making what should be impossible saves. That's why they get paid the big bucks. Howard gets paid what, a little over 2 mil a year? He shouldn't be expected to be anything other than mediocre when we're getting him so cheaply. The problem comes when one side makes Howard out to be the greatest goalie in the league and the other side makes him out to be the worst goalie in the league. He's neither extreme. He's average. That being said, at this point I'd rather see Macdonald get the majority of the next few games. He's really played well the last few outtings. Howard hasn't earned the starting job.

    Jimmy Howard watch thread

Lets just cut through this shall we? There is no goalie good enough to wear the Wings jersey. You name it, every goalie has good days and bad days. Every goalie gives up rebounds. Every goalie gives up soft goals. The team in front of the goalie makes all the difference. The Wings are 3rd in the NHL because they have a good team. So Howard had a bad game, big deal. Hell, the entire Wings team had a bad game last night. The funny part is when the team in front of him plays like crap, he still gets pushed under the bus. Personally, I am glad that they signed Howard to the 2 year deal. I am also glad that the collective Wings fans are not in charge of the team. Hell, these are the same people that will lambaste their team all season long, and then when they win the cup, will take credit saying it was the best team ever assembled. Look at the Dallas Drake signing a few years ago. People scoffed at that signing, yet he was a valuable depth player. In the end, he wins and cup and everyone takes credit for saying how good of a signing it was. What a load of crap. Here is an idea. To the ones who are critical of the players, get on board with being a fan of the Red Wings. If you want to bandwagon it up, go jump on board the Vancouver bus.

    Lines

It's impossible to put together line combos, without worrying about who's lazy or soft. We have too many players on this team that are one or the other. Some are both. Too many floaters in the lineup right now, hence every line would have a glaring problem. These players need to step up and actually care every game, because matching lines around isn't going to magically make them care. Has to come from within.
