If I was a 6'5 Canadian thug who had no skills besides fighting while on skates. Or if I was a 5'8 Czech wimp who is soft, lazy, but has good hands which show up every 4 or 5 games.

I blame my parents. I didn't start really following hockey until I was 11, and didn't start skating until shortly after that. Thanks Mom, you go get me baptized as a baby but don't put me on skates? What the hell?!

So the Yzerman daughters somehow need to breed with the Lidstrom sons. Luckily there are many ways to facilitate this. I am also interested in a Gretzky's son and Probert's daughter union.

This is a thread JUST for fun... since we're all chomping at the bit for pre-season to begin and start watching some real hockey, I figured I'd start a thread for some laughs - Put what "held you back" from making it to the NHL - I'll start it off. I could have made it to the NHL if... My knees had held up, I came from money AND I were 5 inches taller and, go...

I could have made it to the NHL!

If I wasn't accident prone while growing up.

You obviously know nothing about pro wrestling. Wrestlers get injured more often than any other athletes. They also don't have offseasons to rest up their bodies. Concussions especially are unavoidable in the ring. Sure the action is staged, but the point is they take many injuries to the head and take a ridiculous amount of painkillers to offset their problems and aches. Fighting isn't as common as it used to be in hockey, but guys are bigger and stronger nowadays, and getting hit in the head by these giant enforcers has to take its toll on a brain and body. Also, there's a lot of stress with this particular job over some other positions in hockey.

f***in Bart Lebderp is preventing me from judging this new cup dropping character.

I never had the natural skill set of superstar, just a little better then average player on a little old house league team, with a couple all-star stints and high school teams that never developed into anything. Pair that with an average kids attitude and bingo the "Professional" hockey dream died at 16 for snowboarding.

Not nearly as bad as Leb-derps dumb drunk ass dropping it.

I could have made it to the NHL if my parents were named Ron and Jean Yzerman

I could have made it to the NHL if.... I started playing hockey when I was 5 years old instead of waiting until I was 27.

I could have made it to the NHL!

I could have made it to the NHL if I had been a child living in Canada to a father who was a high school athlete and supported my wish at age three to be a professional goalie when I grew up. Oh, wait, all of that was true. What stopped me? I could have made it to the NHL had I not been a GIRL, which forced me from hockey into figure skating as girls were not allowed to play hockey in the little town in which we lived. Nor could I play in the towns to which we later moved as they had no hockey programs. But the first few years were favourable.

If I was not born in the South, and @ 27 fillout to a 6'6 frame while only weighing 175 lbs. I still play the crap outta roller hockey tho.

Fedorov - (in Russian) "Go to hell Shanahan, you freak!" Shanahan - "That means Shanahan is a good and great man! I love you too brother!" Oh, you meant hockey lineups.

It might be Bettman's scary little way of trying to phase fighting out of the game.

I could have made it to the NHL!

If I had the talent, started at an earlier age, and had some hands. College hockey is about as far as I can hope to attain.
