I must be on something, but I love this change. The return of INTENSE rivalries and divisional hatred will be astounding given the amount of times you'll see the same teams during the regular season and in the first and second round. Plus, the chance to play teams like the Canucks and Sharks in the Stanley Cup finals. Finally, the improved travel schedule should provide the wings the extra juice they need when making a deep run in the playoffs. Bravo Bettman, one of the few good things you've done. And LMAO at the Wings being one of the teams that voted against this, they basically got exactly what they were looking for, a dramatically improved travel schedule. Neg away...

What are you guys whining about? We'll dominate that division. Chicago is the only other powerhouse in our division. We'll have to play them in the playoffs perenially. It'll heat the rivalry up even more. I agree. People are forgetting the bolded part as well. It's a good deal.

Would you rather have us in a division with the Hawks, Pens and Bruins or something? And those reject teams are who we're playing against now.

Yup, a house of cheese is a great comparison in this scenario, Two for two so far. Also, using hashtags outside of twitter bro? C'mon...

Here's the division I was hoping we'd be in. Wings Penguins Sharks Canucks Bruins Flyers Blackhawks Capitals

It's not as good as just moving the Wings to the East but it is MUCH better than what we have now. Only 1 trip to Western Canada and 1 to the California. And in the playoffs we play the first 2 rounds in our time zone or the Central time zone. No flights to California in the first two rounds. We also see Montreal, Toronto and Boston for a home and home every year. I would prefer to play them more but as I said, it's a big improvement over what we have now.

So if I understood correctly... Zdeno Chara was around for the American Revolution?

I literally watched that 3 times.. and I have still got no idea what he was talking about.

Well, if he fights lots of non-fighters and turns down fights with tougher guys, then yes, he is a spotpicker. Basically, he picks his spots.

    Realignment decided - 4 Conferences

It's not random selection, so it's not really 7% better chance. Larger pool size just means a better chance of the larger conference having more good teams. It's about as likely that the 5th-place team in one of the 7-team conferences will be better than the 4th in one of the 8-team. I'm kind of torn. I liked divisional playoffs and the rivalries created, and I like playing the first two rounds close to home (or at least no further than Dallas/Winnipeg). But this method creates such a large chance of someone getting screwed. Much better if they just went with the 4 conference winners + 12 wildcards.

Backes would try to fight Zetterberg if he could. He's tough sure, but he's a bigger spot picker then Lucic. f*** Carcillo too though, dumb looking penalty machine

Yes, Detroit might of done okay, but how in a million years you take two franchises and screw them (Fla, TB) just to get the Capitals in the Atlantic is a complete joke. Yea we got out okay, but I would have rather been in the north east with Montreal Toronto buffalo and Boston and such

Let's see, the Wings wanted less travel out west especially during the playoffs & more games with traditional rivals in the east. And with this realignment they get....less travel out west & more games with traditional rivals in the east. How did the Wings get screwed with this move? And from the reports I heard, the reason the 2 eastern conferences have 7 teams each & a better percentage chance to make the playoffs is to get those owners to buy off on the additional costs & travel time of now having more games out west under the new alignment. And for any complaints about teams missing the playoffs out west with more points than teams in the east, how is that any different than now?

The cop out woulda been just to swap Detroit and Winnipeg. Drastically realigning the entire NHL was the hardest thing for them to do.

Yeah, playing against the Hawks will be boring around here.

Phoenix will move to Quebec City (or somewhere East) before next season so it will be even.

A perfectly rational reaction to a format that has yet to even be announced or have a single game played under it.

    Fistric destroys Niederreiter

Also with the way this year has been going with all of the player deaths, this is in incredibly bad taste.

I might have to agree with Mr. -49, I dont think Helm will ever win a Selke.

    Miller Ran again

No suspension. At most he deserved 2 minutes. He tried to go around Ehrhoff, and couldn't easily do it. He ended up in a situation where he was charging the net hard with the puck and his options were to try and score (and possibly crash into Miller) or to throw himself onto the goal. I bet that would have been amusing.

    2012-13 Realignment Leak?

I know I'm probably in the minority here. But I really don't want to move to the East. The West has so much better competition, and so many big and small rivalries with us, which in turn means many more exciting great Red Wings games. I really hope we stay in the West, despite the time zone issue.

    Boston Announcer Does it Again....

i actually like jack edwards. he was good back in the day on espn. and while he can be a homer, i hear him make fair assessments about bad calls and things that balance him out a bit. he is paid by nesn to be the bruins announcer. not a neutral announcer. with that said, that video makes no freaking sense at all!!!!

    Boston Announcer Does it Again....

    1) I just woke up. 2) I haven't had anything to wake up my brain. 3) I have been living through the "migraine hangover" from yesterday's headache. Now that I have my excuses made, I just want to say that if he was talking about the Flight of the Octopus, I'd be totally on board with what he was saying. Unfortunately, I didn't quite catch what his topic was. But what the heck, let's just go with it. Everyone run over to Boston, throw an octopus in the sea, and we'll get the King of Montreal to surrender.
