Don't be a fool, it takes two parties to trade and you can't force your way into a trade, if the other team isn't willing to talk, it's not an option... neither is raining cash on a FA, until they "see things your way" this is not the pre-cap world... you don't cripple your team in the long term for a MINOR short term upgrade... stop being so short sighted... -

Holland losing his moxie? Is Detroit slipping as UFA destination?
Z Winged Dangler and one other reacted to Barrie for a post in a topic
Ok, so what would you have done? Keep in mind, Suter and Parise wanted to play together, and Parise is from Minnesota, and Columbus and Nashville don't want to trade with us. Would you really overpay for Doan or Semin when we have some young forwards ready to step in and play? Why not just see what we have this season, then add to it. I agree we need to add someone on the blueline, but if Suter would rather join Parise in Minnesota and Nashille didn't want to trade us Weber, you would you add? And how would you add? I think it's clear that drafting and developing players is the way to go now. The way the FA market is under the current CBA, it's really not worth getting locked into 13 year deals, and making players that may not even be the best guys on your team your highest paid. -

Bouwmeester opinions? Potential trades? *merged*
T-Ruff and one other reacted to jroc86 for a post in a topic
Boumeester is allot better defensively than Quincey and takes about half the penalties. I would also be willing to bet that JBo outperforms Suter offensivley next season if he indeed becomes a Red Wing. If the Cap ceiling doesnt drop too much Id do this for sure ... if its gets cut 5 or 10million then his contract is a bit worrisome. Hes no Nick - but who is? Hes expensive, doesnt have playoff experience, and plays soft. Despite those drawbacks I think his upside (age, size, speed, versatility, skill + offensive upside, and laid back demenaor) all would make him a good fit on the ice and in the dressing room. -

As long as it didn't cost too much going the other way, I'd be all for it, just coming into his prime, he's been on horrible teams, and he'd thrive here, I'm convinced of it... Only 2 years on the contract too, so it wouldn't be too much to take on if it didn't work... -

Rick Nash traded to the New York Rangers
Hockeymom1960 reacted to BostonBruinsDan1924 for a post in a topic
Breaking: Columbus and Nashville to merge into one single team to make up for losses. The CBJ's get a grinder a floater and AHLer and a pick that will be in the end of the draft. Anisomov has more playoff goals than Nash. -

Rick Nash traded to the New York Rangers
centcougar07 reacted to kipwinger for a post in a topic
Who cares if another team in our division got weaker. How does that help us win a cup? As a matter of fact, it doesn't really help us with the division either considering the Blues are essentially the same team as last year and so are the Hawks. I don't understand why anyone thinks that Columbus getting worse (worse than dead last) is in any way beneficial for us. -

Rick Nash traded to the New York Rangers
crispychris reacted to StormJH1 for a post in a topic
Wow. What the heck is Columbus doing? So, their three best forwards are now Derrick Brassard, R.J. Umberger, and Brandon Dubinsky. Yeah, that'll sell tickets. I understand why they might not want to trade Nash to US, but why even trade him at all if you can't get an elite prospect out of the deal? Dubinsky has a 4.2 million cap hit for the next three years - that's the type of garbage you overpay for no reason other than to get to the salary floor. -
1 pointInstead of what I would've done, how about what I'd like to see? And that is: a more balanced, well-rounded, "dynamic" team - one that can, of course, play the puck-possession game, but can also change things up if that system falters. We have skill. With the puck. When we have the puck. Beyond that, we're vanilla. We're not big. We're not physical. We're not nasty. We're not fast. We're not young. We can't punish on the forecheck. We can't play lockdown D. Our goalie is good, but we can't expect him to win games for us. Our special teams aren't spectacular. All of which is to say: disrupt our system, and we fall apart. We have no fallback plan, no other looks we can throw the opposition. No other hats to wear. "You say it like it's so simple, disrupting our system." It is. Take away our time and space. Rush us. Take the body to us, hitting a man at every opportunity. Crash, bang, punish, wear down. Block shots. Box us out to the tops of the circles when we're on the forecheck. Shut down Datsyuk (he'll be battling an injury that has him at 75%, at best), shut down Zetterberg (ditto. Moreover, he's got a bad back; he can only take so much punishment.) We've seen it done before. We saw it done again just a few months ago. "We lost because of some unlucky bounces. Sometimes the puck luck just isn't there." Look at the final scores of each game. It was a low-scoring, grinding, D-centric series. That's not us, that's not the game we like to play. We were forced to play the Predators' game. Defeat was, in retrospect, pretty much guaranteed - because, again: throw a wrench in our system and everything goes to s***. We need new dimensions, new ingredients, new possibilities. Take our top-6, for example - it's basically six different versions of the same player. How about a power-forward, a guy who will crash and bang and drive to the net, a guy who won't be boxed out to the perimeter? (Nash, Ryan, Doan, Hartnell, Lucic, et al.) We need a shot in the arm, new bood. Something to be excited about. We need to sign big UFAs and/or trade. Drafting? Unless we plan on tanking (or trading), we're not drafting high. And while, yes, we've found some gems in later rounds, that was when we were ahead of the curve. Now every team looks at Europe, digs for diamonds. blahhhh

Holland losing his moxie? Is Detroit slipping as UFA destination?
Wings10 reacted to Z Winged Dangler for a post in a topic
Jesus Christ....of course Cougar likes your 100% negative post toward the Wings. Aren't they in the works of making a new arena? And when you lose your franchise player and you still have guys like Dats, Z, Kronner and young guys like Smith, Nyquist and Brunner around to insert some youth and energy into the lineup, you're not doing too bad. The media is playing s*** up so hard about the Wings saying their dynasty is over and they're no longer a preferred destination... then why do guys want to come back after they lose for a couple years with a crap team and why do guys that lead other leagues in points want to come here...more than once and why does DeKeyser apparently want to sign with the Wings after he finishes school next year? Call yourself a real Wings fan and post garbage that Wild fans are gonna like....come on dude. Have at least a little faith in a team that has the longest playoff streak in sports history and who between 1997 and 2008 gave us 4 Stanley Cups. -

IllinoisRedWingsFan reacted to Barrie for a post in a topic
Actually a lot of athletes like Detroit. The staduims/arenas are always packed, and it's one of the best sport cities in North America. Athletes live in big houses in the suburbs anyway, and Detroit has nice 'burbs. Add to that, their money goes farther. Most big cities are unsafe, so the inner city and crime rates don't concern athletes. -
1 pointThis isn't a panic thread. Why does anything critical or objective or just non-"Holland can do no wrong" have to be panicking or "hating"?

Despite his poor +/-, he's at least on par defensively, maybe even a little better, and better offensively than Quincey... It's he 3m more better? Maybe not, but I think we'd all be very pleasantly surprised by Bo if he came here... -

IllinoisRedWingsFan reacted to JoeBuddy for a post in a topic
I don't think he is at all. If anything, he has been more active this offseason than most during the salary cap era. He went after both Parise and Suter. He made a bid for Rick Nash. It has also been reported that we are interested in Shane Doan, and possibly Alex Semin. He spoke with Weber's agent to see what could be done to bring him to Detroit. Unfortunately for us Wings fans, we are in the same division as the teams most of these players are coming from. Columbus and Nashville would have a really hard time trading their respective stars to their division rival. Suter had narrowed down his list of teams to Detroit and Minnesota. Too bad for us Zach Parise wanted to move back home while convincing his pal to join him. The Doan sweepstakes has been said to start at 4 years at 7.5 mil per year (more than both Dats and Z get paid annually). Semin has been said to be a locker room 'cancer' that some wings players, "don't think to highly of." What can Kenny do? The man has reportedly attempted to bring every name on the market this offseason to Detroit. He is the victim of unfortunate circumstances this offseason. The allure of joining the Red WIngs organization is not fading away. Ken Holland has tried as hard as any other GM in the league to land the Wings a player of significance this offseason. Eventually, he will succeed. If he sees a player that will help us win, rest assured that he will do everything within his power to bring them here. We still have a ton of money to spend through free agency and trade this offseason. No one knows what the cap will look like after this new CBA. We still have to save for the raises that Jimmy and Filp will be getting. The trade deadline may also have a few 'sellers' that may want to unload. He knows our D isn't as good on paper as it has been in the past. He knows that we need another top 6 forward to help support our main guys. When the oppurtinity arrives, the Wings will be make their move. Don't worry. In Kenny I trust. -

One's gotta think Holland has had a hard time selling the program in recent years. I mean, yes we're an original six team with a previous winning tradition. However, we're also a team with an old, dilapidated arena, a team who just lost their franchise player, full of aging veterans and unproven youth....a team, playoff wise, has been going the wrong direction for the last 4 years..... Yeah, doesn't really scream "attractive" does it? -

I like our team. We kicked the tires. Darren Helm is our big acquisition; remember, he wasn't available to us when we faced the Predators. We have to think long-term, big picture. We can't just go out and add a couple big names, that's the reality of the cap era and parity. We only have so much spending money. Danny Cleary. Certainly we have gotten bigger, tougher, younger, faster - and there's still a whole lot of time left and a wealth of options. The CBA means we're not going to see any more big deals. (Shae Weber does not exist; he is a hoax.) We like to think of our power play as our enforcer. Youth. You can't win the Cup ever year. -

Nashville or Detroit: Better Hockey Fans?
centcougar07 reacted to GetToDaChoppah for a post in a topic
Sorry we have only been around for 14 years. It's not our fault we weren't blessed with a National Hockey Team until 1998 but hockey has been around in Nashville since the 60s so some of us aren't as dumb to the sport as you may like to think. I've never said Nashville knew any more about hockey than a die hard Detroit fan either. I'm simply saying it's not fair to write us off as hicks with no grasp of the sport because we are from the South. Oh and those weren't towels they were shirts and I'm sure most of them were thrown by visiting Red Wings fans and possibly a few Predators fans who didn't care for an XL Shirt. I have about 20 of them in my drawer from playoffs because they are way too big to wear. I guess some folks decided to donate their to the ice They will go to charities now instead of not being worn. -
