I think that Jay Feaster would send Holland a letter bomb for making such an insulting offer.

Bob Probert: 2 Years Ago Today

Still brings a tear to watch tribute videos of Probie doing what he did best. His work sent me on the long journey to being a fully fledged hockey and Red Wings fan. I couldn't care less about the UFA market or anything like that today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opjPokB0NIg RIP Bob Legends Never Die

I fail to see how swapping Bouwmeester for Franzen would be a win for Detroit. The amount of goals and assists we lose from Franzen won't be made up for in better defense from Bouwmeester. Calgary said it won't be a heads up trade. We would have to trade a prospect as well, which in my mind, puts a kibosh on the whole idea.

    Red Wings Alumni Showdown Roster

Text alerts are SOOO 2000's. I got the scoop from Malik, who scooped it from @redwingsfeed, who found it by doing some kind of search-engine-bot-voodoo-witchcraft-mumbo-jumbo. Apparently redwingsfeed found the gallery picture before it was made publicly available.

I'd bet that the league will allow them to move in a heartbeat. If they were a team that Gary had moved to the desert, the league would literally spend years trying to come up with some scenario - ANY scenario where they didn't move.

I would rather Ken Holland plan for the future instead of dump $7 million a season on Bouwmeester. He is a solid defenseman, but he isn't a playmaker. He is someone that doesn't get you goals and assists. Why give up one of our forwards and a prospect for someone like him? IMHO, it doesn't make any sense to give up Franzen who scores around 30 goals per season and Nyquist who could have a breakout season for a guy who is going to finish +10 if he is luck and notch 4 goals and 20 assists. I would rather just give Brendan Smith the ice time. As I have said before, Bouwmeester is a guy who you wish you could get more from. He isn't a stud defenseman, but a solid defenseman. Why overpay for someone like this? The Flames did and now they are trying to dump his contract on someone else. Plus, you have to realize we have a crop of UFAs and RFAs on our team next season. The salary cap we have left is going to have to go to some of those guys. I think the best case situation is to wait until the new CBA is hammered out.

NHL '13 wouldn't even accept that... Worse forward + 7th defensemen + late 1st for Much better forward + 3rd defensemen

Bob Probert: 2 Years Ago Today

had some s***ty weather so decided to read Probies book again.....compelling read again. i finished it in 2.5 hours. Really enjoy the fact it was his words and written that way as well. Although His constant presence here on the boards brings back nothing but great memories...his death still deeply deeply saddens me. The connection he and Stevie had was very touching and watching that Buffalo Brawl is what prompted this post.

just to compare some of our picks over the past few drafts to Kane. 2012 1. Vasilevski (taken by Tampa with our 1st) 2. Frk 3. Paterson 2011 1. Puempel (taken by Ottawa with our 1st) 2. Jurco or Ouellet or Sproul (we had three 2nd round picks) 3. Quine 2010 1. Sheahan 2. Jarnkrok 3. Aubry 2009 1. Ashton (taken by Tampa with our 1st) 2. Tatar or Ferraro (we had two 2nd round picks) 3. Nestrasil or Fournier (we had two 3rd round picks) 2008 1. McCollum 2. Delmas (taken by Colorado with our 2nd) 3. Nicastro 2007 1. Smith 2. Spaling (taken by Nashville with our 2nd) 3. Andersson Theres really only 3 bad picks in there IMO. Aubry, McCollum, and Delmas, and Delmas was picked by COL with our pick. The only draft year I would have given up our first 3 picks for an overpaid Kane on what would most likely be a super long contract would have been 2008. And we had the last pick of the draft that year so we were in the crappiest position to draft well that year. This is supposed to be a very strong draft class coming up and we will probably have a higher pick than we are used to. So I think it would be a very bad idea to overpay an RFA and seriously jeopardize our future. In a parity league championships are built on homegrown talent on good contracts.

The guy I talked to today from JLA said something along the lines of the WC tickets not showing up yet because it's through the league, unlike the GLI. So, he assured me that I will be getting all of my tickets in the mail late November or early December. Now I just want alumni tickets.

Datsyuk and Zetterberg are centers who play Selke defense, and even considering that, no. 20-odd goals and 70 points (playing ~80 games) is below what I think we should expect. Datsyuk has scored 196 points in 206 games (.95 ppg) the last three seasons. His points were down in the injury-plagued 09-10 season, and goals were down last year, but I would expect him to get back to high-20s - low-30s goals, and stay close to or over a point/game for at least a couple more years. Hank has 219 points in 236 games (.93 ppg). His goals have been down for three years, and he had a horrid start last year. I don't know if he can get his goals back up, but I think he can do better than his point totals last year. Maybe not for the duration of his contract, but it is less than what you'd need to offer Kane, and at least he had aproven track record to base it on. I'm not all that happy with his numbers since he signed his deal. I never expected him to be "worth" it in the later years, but I was hoping the early years would make up for it. Considering all the intangibles I can't complain too much though, so long as he doesn't degrade too much further too fast. ~$6.7M for 68 points (.83 ppg) for a winger who doesn't play Selke defense is overpaid. Not by a huge amount, but still overpaid. And you're banking on a big IF, in that he needs to continue to improve just to get to that point. And you have to give up a bunch of draft picks to get him. I still don't think we could get him for the compensation you think we could. Who knows what those picks could become. Edmonton gave up a chance at Tyler Myers, Justin Schultz, and a 3rd rounder (nothing special so far) for the right to overpay an underperforming Penner for a few years. I wouldn't have a problem paying Kane that amount if we didn't have to give up anything for him. Good enough chance that he will improve. But there's too big a risk that he won't improve to justify paying that and giving up the picks.

    Our current forwards.

I agree. If your definition of toughness is exclusively in the realm of Probert and Kocur, then there are only six or seven guys in the history of the NHL that can be categorized as tough. Tootoo knows how to give and take real haymakers, throws his body around chaotically and drives into people like a freight train. On top of all of that, he is comfortable with actually playing hockey, and can be known to contribute as well. I'm looking forward to seeing this guy play, and I agree that he will surprise a lot of Wings' fans as well.

    Our current forwards.

No one will ever be Kocur or Probert, and it's foolish to compare. Tootoo is damn tough, he just isn't big. He's got the heart of a lion and he's gonna surprise alot of Wings fans this season. Mark my words.

I'm going to throw a somewhat obscure one out that I've never forgotten - 2002 Playoffs against Vancouver, those Vancouver teams with pre-suspension Bertuzzi were particularly dirty, so after Chelios had a great game and we won, he decided to do this after being named 1st star: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9V6Y7a9dbo Awesome. On a much less lighter note, one that I refuse to post the video of (but you can go find if you want to remember) was one I didn't see live because I was in grad school in Minnesota, but heard about afterwards - Fischer collapsing on the bench. Came absolutely out of nowhere in a somewhat non-descript regular season game. Absolutely terrifying television - glad I didn't see it live.

I would love to see Jurco overachieve and be here in a year. Not realistic though considering how our system works.

I literally teared up reading the announcement email. At this point I'm more interested in seeing the alumni game than the winter classic. So excited to see Feds in the winged wheel again.

Bob Probert: 2 Years Ago Today

Had the pleasure of meeting him plenty of times...the year he came back and couldn't travel to Canada, he would always come to DTW and fly out to meet the team, I may have been a bit of a stalker, but I would check the flights to see which one he was on and always "ran into him" there. It got to the point to where if I missed him one time, he's ask me the next time I saw him, what happened... Great Great Guy, depsite all his personal issues...wish he never left us for Chicago and I sure wish he never "left" us for Heaven... I love ya Bob, sorry you never got to drive the electric cart!

    Twitter Sources Not To Cite

Its one thing to repeat a rumor you may have heard somewhere from time to time, but Eklund just straight up makes s*** up off the top of his head daily and creates his own rumors and then tries to spread them. I think its safe to say he is one of the least credible "sources" in all of pro sports and without a doubt the least credible in the NHL.
