Should Kronwall have to answer the bell for his hits?
F.Michael and one other reacted to Bring Back The Bruise Bros for a post in a topic
I guess he shouldn't have to, but he shouldn't back away from the rough stuff. When you absolutely clock the opposing team's star players, clean hit or not, guys are gonna come after you. Don't just stand there as they all beat on you. He shouldn't be afraid to fight. If the opposition even touched Yzerman in the '80s, Probert, Kocur, and Gallant beat 'em into the ice. If the opposition even touched Gretzky in the '80s, Semenko and McSorley beat 'em into the ice. Didn't matter whether the hits were clean or not. Eventually, players were forced to answer the bell. I think it is annoying that a mugging ensues after every clean hard hit, though. Take a hit and play the game. In essence, what that kind of stuff does is it deters clean, hard hitting. -
2 pointsThis is brought up a lot when it comes to replacing old Bettman. Being commissioner entails more than ust giving awkward stuttering interviews and handing over the cup to a new team each summer. It's a high demand position requiring an educational background in law and labor relations. I don't think any former player except maybe Ken Dryden could make a crack at it.

I can see Shanny getting the job sometime in the future, now that he's moving up the NHL corporate ladder. -

Yeah, right. He'd expel all European players from the league within a month of taking the job. -

If that's what he wants then more power to him. I love Datsyuk! It does not matter where he plays. I will still be a fan of his. -

Datsyuk leaving after contract is up?
roboturner reacted to atodaso for a post in a topic
I've always thought Pavel could turn into Larionov in his 40's and get 5-10 goals and about 40-50 assists. Sure he wouldn't be the 90 point superstar of today but he would still be a hell of an asset. I for one look forward to another 3-4 years of 'superstar Pavel' followed by another 6-7 years of 'Larionov Pavel' -

Bouwmeester opinions? Potential trades? *merged*
Z Winged Dangler gave a reaction for a post in a topic
The entire rumor spawned from this blog post made by a random blogger. The blogger's so-called "trusted Flames insider" source, Randy Workman, is himself a fan blogger and is certainly not a team insider. In other words, the entire "Bouwmeester to Detroit" hype was complete nonsense. It's certainly possible that Holland did inquire about Bouwmeester, but the whole story about trade talks being in progress spawned from a fallacious claim made by a disreputable blogger. -

like I said, it's just some bitter blogger for the Wild. it could be centcougar for all we know. Most of the comments seem to be about teams he clearly disdains and hopes will fail. One of the other guy responds saying you can never count the Wings out. -

Better off seeing what Brunner, Gus, or even Tatar can do over signing Kostitsyn. His peak was 53 points in his debut season with Montreal and it's been downhill ever sense. -

Should Kronwall have to answer the bell for his hits?
redwingfan19 reacted to number9 for a post in a topic
So the NHL has been around since 1917....almost 100 years.....and thousands of fighters have taken to NHL ice in that time, and you have a list of 6 players???? I know there have been a couple of unusual tough guy deaths recently....but those deaths are just that....NOT USUAL. And most of those suicide deaths were guys who struggled with addiction, not to mention you have no idea what other problems besides addiction that they were dealing with in their personal lives as well....yet you wanna pin the whole suicide on the fact that hockey allowed him to get hit in the head a lot? Sorry but even if I was anti-fighting I would still call this a very poor argument. The enforcer system was the best system out there. It was run and facilitated by the players and coaches themselves and worked better than the system in place today. Enforcers made sure dirty crap didn't happen and if it did you got punished for it. Then the enforcers also had their own little side game...which was the heavy weight bouts that were just as much for the fans as they were for themselves...You had big name fighters like Probie and Domi who would square up just to see who would win that round and prove that they are the bigger, tougher, better fighter....you would have thought they hated each other but they actually had huge respect for each other....these were big, tough, nasty.....yet honorable men Nowadays guys are running everyone, slamming heads into boards, hitting to the head, flopping, the list goes on and on. And the NHL keeps trying to make more and more and more rules to stop it....but you can't stop it. Let the players handle it, they did a better job at handling it than the NHL has, despite their best efforts. Let them handle it, they know best... instead we have baby-proofing do-gooders stepping in and telling them how to play their own sport. In the players poll last year it was something like 99% of NHL players said fighting should not be removed from hockey....they want fighting just as much as the fans do. It has a place....even in this post-lockout league. And don't get me started on your fighting versus hitting argument....by your logic we would have to remove hitting as well....anddd just as many if not more health concerns arise from hitting, just not as many to the head. -

Should Kronwall have to answer the bell for his hits?
Rick D reacted to hillbillywingsfan for a post in a topic
and obviously you are not a wings fan which we all know. So your point on the matter is a bit skewed and to say that 50% of his hits are illegal?? really? maybe you should re-watch some of his hits there chief and take off whatever color glasses you have on.if his hits were 50% dirty and should of been penalized...why have they not been,...and why has he not been suspended? hmmmmmm -
1 pointRobert Lang...always Robert Lang.
-
1 pointI don't think he should have to fight for clean hits, but having said that, I'm really surprised that more teams don't make him...or someone else on the team. The fact that he does it and gets away with it so much is a real surprise. Note: On a positive note, seems like we'll never have to ask this question about Smith.

Should Kronwall have to answer the bell for his hits?
Rick D reacted to haroldsnepsts for a post in a topic
In a perfect world, Kronwall would crush someone with a clean hit, then when some idiot dropped the gloves and went after him, Kronner would start throwing haymakers and drop that guy too. But he's just not that player. Would I love him to beat the crap out of someone who expects him to fight for a clean hit? Yes. Should he HAVE to fight for a clean hit? No. -
