3 pointsWhy is this guy in the NHL. Lemieux cried and wimpered his whole career over a the b.s. scrubs mucking up the game. Now he gainfully employs the biggest piece of dung the NHL has seen since Marchment. Puts me like Lemieux less.

Great Babcock quote
IllinoisRedWingsFan and one other reacted to dat's sick for a post in a topic
Swedish journalist Per Bjurman was in Detroit and talking to Nick Lidstrom and Holmstrom outside the lockerrom at the Joe, when Mike Babcock came by and had this to say: - I love you more than when you played, because now I understand how much you meant. Our ******* powerplay ... I can not get anyone to do what you did. Damn, "Homer", if I had known better maybe I would have appreciated you a bit more, he shrieks happily, unaware that it is a Swedish journalist next to them... from :http://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/hockey/internationellt/nhl/article16250985.ab -

Biggest mistake Red Wings have done

Exactly. I hate the "hindsight" thing. A lot of us here wanted Hossa over Franzen at the time. Hossa was and still is a better player. For the deal Hossa signed with Chicago, it's not like the Red Wings couldn't have found a way to make that work compared to Franzen's. Holland chose the wrong guy. -

I think the idea isn't that Nyquist couldn't beat out those guys, rather that he is waiver exempt. Eaves or Cleary would have to be waived. Having Nyquist as the swing man who can come up or be sent down as the team needs on a game-by-game basis is ultimately what this is all about. It gives the team depth. Or, at least it's supposed to. Plus you have to consider roles. For example , Nyquist > Andersson and will be a more important player in the long run, but Andersson fits a niche right now, adding size to line 3. -

He's a rookie who can be sent down without losing him. If we had to waive him to send him down, you can be sure it would be someone else on the way out. Remember Datsyuk only scored 35 points as a rookie. Hank only 44. Franzen 16. Flip scored 23 points in his first 105 NHL games. Even if you assume Nyquist is a star in the making it's still unlikely that he'd be so good as a rookie that it would be worth losing another player over. We don't have Brett Hull to play with him on the 4th line, and we already have one rookie in the top 6. He's not a center nor a physical player. We're not going to waste development time by keeping him up to sit in the pressbox. Probably not a good idea to put him in a spot where we're depending on him on the PK. It's just not an optimal situation for him right now. If we'd had a training camp and pre-season, maybe he would have won a spot. If we were a better team that could better afford to carry him if he didn't work, or a worse team not worried about the consequences, he might have a spot. In short, the main reason he's being sent down is because he can be. -

What about Sammy? Francine? Kronwall? Quincey? If Tootoo was our worst player I would be more than happy. We are not loosing because of him... at least he's showing some passion and balls... -

It wasn't just a matter of Hossa or Franzen...keeping Hossa would have also likely have meant not having someone else on the team...Hossa's cap hit is like 1.4 million more than Franzen's...who that would have been...who knows...Being a GM is easy sitting behind a keyboard... -

Sens Karlsson suffers lacerated Achilles tendon
Z Winged Dangler reacted to esteef for a post in a topic
The two circumstances are not even remotely similar but nice try Mr. "logic". If what Cooke did is sooooo commonplace then where are all the sliced legs? Maybe it's because the vast majority of instances where a player is pinned from behind didn't involve a douchebag like Matt Cooke and therefore didn't result in an "accidental" leg slicing. But I'm sure Karlsson was just "unlucky" in this case, I mean that's what all the talking heads on tv are saying right? And of course we believe everything that's on tv right? Everyone is CERTAIN of Matt Cooke's "intent" right? I hope someone seriously hurts Matt Cooke. (by "accident" of course ) esteef -

Gus has got to stay in the NHL if the Wings want his career to go somewhere. He's maxed out his potential in the AHL, so now you've gotta make him adapt his skills to the big league. Cleary needs to be waived. -
1 pointRight? It's as if his horrribly dirty reputation is actually saving his ass here. Oh no! Everyone's picking on poor old Matt Cooke! Intention can never be proven so this is exactly the type of circumstance where "benefit of the doubt" SHOULD come into play. I mean why even keep track of past offenses and suspensions if you are not going to use them when the time comes? If there is ANY player in the league who should not get the benefit of the doubt it's MATT f***IN COOKE!! He stomped Karlsson's ankle plain and simple. esteef

Time to sit Ian White
Z Winged Dangler reacted to Red Crazy for a post in a topic
I think Huskins should be paired with Kronner. Kronner has played at his best when paired with a stay at home d-man (Stuart) This allows Kronner to jump up into the play and make some big hits. Kronwall looks lost without Stuart and Huskins is probably as close to his style as well have so pair them up. White does not seem to have chemistry with anyone at this point. The thought of Colo and him paired together sends chills up my spine. I have my doubts that Babs will scratch him though. -
1 pointCould it be, and i realize this is crazy, but maybe Nyquist isn't as good as some here think? After all he seems to have been passed by tatar. Let's face some possibilities here. Nyquist has been up a couple of different times. he hasn't been able to stay and beat out any one of several over the road has beens/never were's.

Sens Karlsson suffers lacerated Achilles tendon
Z Winged Dangler reacted to esteef for a post in a topic
After watching the video MANY times and knowing checks like this happen all the time, Cooke stomped the back of Karlsson's ankle with his skate. I think it's pretty clear. Of course we'll never know for sure, and you can bet your ass Cooke would never admit it if he did do it on purpose, but I don't think it was an accident. edit: The fact that this hit DOES happen all the time without a rash of players getting their legs sliced up only supports the notion that Cooke did this on purpose. Either that or we are supposed to believe that all hockey players from pee wee on up through juniors to the NHL know how to correctly finish this type of hit without cutting the opponent but Matt Cooke does not? Boooooools***. Matt Cooke hasn't changed, he's simply figured out how to disguise his cheap play better. He now knows he can't just come screaming across the ice and blindside headshot someone, he's got to make his cheapness look like an "accident". f*** Matt Cooke. esteef -

Sammy and Coliacovo definitely felt like patchwork moves at best after the Suter/Parise madness. Some of them have certainly worked out but Holland's penchant for bringing back former wings is almost pathological. I don't know if it's a lack of imagination or he's just overly fond of former Wings. I mean, Jason Williams. Really? -

1 pointFor a guy who was picked up on waivers, I don't think you can complain. The Roy trade, I have seen before a list of what Montreal supposedly wanted, and it didn't include Fedorov, it was a bunch of depth players who would have been easily replaced. Look at what it cost Colorado for Roy (and Keane as well) - Thibault, Rucinsky and Kovalenko. I'm going to throw in as my selection picking Keith Primeau with the 3rd overall pick in the 1990 draft ahead of Jagr. Primeau was a decent player who helped get us Shanahan in the end, but he was Jagr,
