Well that was quick ..... at least we got a point. (Best part was the goals by 13 & 22)

Well how fitting and deserving was that goal? The Hockey Gods shined down on Tootoo right there!

This game is a glaring example of why we need a sniper... D is pretty solid, goalie making saves when asked to....but scoring gone.

Clune is tough with his chin protector.

Well hockey fans we hope you are enjoying this historic evening pitting the powerhouse Nashville Predators against the expansion Detroit Red Wings in their 1st ever NHL game. Don't forget to pick up your free souvinir puck on your way out of this storied building.

The Wings felt bad about having an extra player on the ice on this PP so they put Dan Cleary out so it can be 4 on 4.

Nashville should consider themselves lucky to walk out of there with even a point nevermind 2. Nice to see that redneck chant is still around. Idiots.

If that isn't a sign that things are not going our way then I don't know what is

Datsyuk 4-on-4 for all five minutes would be superb. Watch Babs have him out there with Cleary and he'll get caught in the Nashville zone leading to an odd-man rush the other way.

I hope they at least get the first point they deserve.

    Great Babcock quote

Swedish journalist Per Bjurman was in Detroit and talking to Nick Lidstrom and Holmstrom outside the lockerrom at the Joe, when Mike Babcock came by and had this to say: - I love you more than when you played, because now I understand how much you meant. Our ******* powerplay ... I can not get anyone to do what you did. Damn, "Homer", if I had known better maybe I would have appreciated you a bit more, he shrieks happily, unaware that it is a Swedish journalist next to them... from :http://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/hockey/internationellt/nhl/article16250985.ab

They had one on Clune boarding Kronwall, but you're excused for not noticing it, sometimes Wings powerplays are difficult to see.

Why is Cleary always on the ice? There is an abundance of capable and better PK options in the bottom-six. Oh great, another injury.

    Jordin Tootoo

Clune is wearing a shield to cover up stitches he got recently, he won't be fighting anyone any time soon He didn't say Tootoo is the most frequent hitter or the best hitter he said he was one of the "hardest hitters". Tootoo absolutely fits that description, in one of the most recent player polls he was voted by the players as the 2nd hardest hitter in the league behind only Chara. Tootoo was the best signing the team made in the offseason and IMO he's been the best player in our bottom 6 so far as well. The hit itself doesn't have to create the turnover. if in anticipation of the hit, a player makes a rushed inaccurate pass ending in a turnover the result is the same as if the hit caused the turnover.. Tootoo causes defenders to make plays far quicker than they want to, and is easily our best fore-checker. You may not like physical hockey but don't deny its effectiveness...just look at what almost every team does to the Wings defence.

    Holland looking around

Kind of like Lidstrom. I'm not a massive J-Bow fan, but if he could be had for Nyquist+Kindl+etc, then I think you'd have to make the deal. Boumeester's > Quincey or Kindl or Lashoff or Huskins or White or Cola and is on par with Kronwall.

Biggest mistake Red Wings have done

If we signed Hossa to a long deal, securing Zetterberg would have been an issue, along with Re-signing Ericsson later, along with Howard, Hudler, Filpulla, Lidstrom, and Kronwall. I love Hossa, but it would have been neigh-impossible to secure both him and Franzen while still having flexibility. I still think I would have down whatever I could to keep Hossa, but it's wasn't the easiest decision, Zetterberg was making 3 million the year Hossa played here. Also recall back that we still had 6 million invested in Raflaski as well. Sure it looks like we could afford both now, but that's because we've lost a lot of high salary players. Was it a bad move in retrospect? Probably, but you keep a 30+ scorer coming off of some dynamic playoff performances, that you've develop, and is on a better deal. It just doesn't seem like the worst move ever to me. Once again, I love Hossa, and would take him on my team everyday, I just understand the situation the Wings were in.

I wouldn't say signing Krupp was a mistake. A 6'6" Dman who could play in both ends of the ice that had won a cup with Colorado. He was supposed to fill the void left by Konstantinov. Bowman loved the guy, having drafted him in Buffalo. I don't think the Red Wings anticipated that he was going to get hurt and then go dog sledding while he was supposed to be healing. However, without that little debacle the Wings would have had no need to trade for Chelios later that season. The mistake was lifting his suspension and letting him play the last year of his contract. He only played a handful of games before shutting it down for the regular season. Bowman decided to put him in the line up in Olausson's place at the start of the playoffs, and we lost thefirst 2 games to Vancouver. Krupp was like a -4 over both games. After that, he was done. Thank god we won that series and eventually the cup...

They Kyle Quincey deal really didn't make much sense to me. We got back a player we already had, albeit a little bit better than when he left, but we had to give up a decent amount to get him back. I think the loyalty is a very good thing for the RW to have. In the past we've gotten quality players at a discount because of it. I am still hopefull that will continue to work for us.
