The Philly draft history since Couturier in 2011 is kinda tragic... 2012: Laughton not a bad choice, but only ends up a 3rd liner. The Maple Leafs certainly aren't bad because the big four are bad players. The Leafs are screwed because their their big 4 are all forwards and their depth is trash. Just look at their defense. Datsyuk and Zberg are not good enough offensively to win cups with that defense either. For comparison sake, IMO they are essentially running a line up of Red Wings era: Nick Leddy - Mike Green Kyle Quincey - Brendan Smith Ruslan Salei - Jakub Kindl Then they have zero options in net too. They now have to hope a 34 year old washed up league min Marin Jones will keep them in games the rest of the season (or at least the TDL). Replace the big 4 with two copies of Bergeron and Datsyuk and that team still ain't winning no cups. Because everything around them is literal trash.

Cutter Gauthier is really good. He was just the 1C for Team USA at the World Juniors. But he left Philly in a bad spot by telling them he wouldn't sign with them, so the return is suboptimal. Drysdale is good but injury prone, hence why the 2nd was thrown in.

This is why I want Quenneville so bad. He's an excellent systems coach (like Jon Cooper for example), but also a total hardass that demands his players work their asses off (like Torts). The league needs to reinstate this guy who Yzerman can hire him.

Both under Blashill and now under Lalonde - this team lacks an identity...Certainly not physical, nor highly skilled...Neither brought a system that appears to be working and quite honestly both are more suited for assistant coaching.
